DePaul University Admission 2027
DePaul University runs a rolling quarter calendar, so Indian applicants can enter in Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer instead of waiting a full year between cycles. Fall remains the primary intake for MS demand from India.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Winter 2027 international deadline | 15 October 2026 | CDM computing tracks; earliest currently open cycle |
| Spring 2027 international deadline | Varies by programme; verify at official CDM page | Not every programme accepts Spring entry |
| Fall 2027 Kellstadt priority round | 1 February 2027 | Higher scholarship consideration for Business tracks |
| Fall 2027 international deadline | 15 June 2027 | Primary intake for Indian MS applicants |
| Credential verification (WES) | Start 6 to 8 weeks before deadline | Required for all Indian bachelor’s degrees |
Planning note: Indian applicants targeting the January 2027 Winter start should courier WES documents by early September 2026, since Indian transcript verification frequently runs six weeks even on the express service.

DePaul University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
DePaul University sets a minimum 2.5/4.0 GPA for graduate admission, though CDM and Kellstadt track admits typically present higher marks. Indian bachelor’s degrees are recognised on a case-by-case equivalence review.
Postgraduate requirements for Indian applicants:
- Bachelor’s degree with 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 minimum (recommended); competitive CS and Cybersecurity admits present 70% or CGPA 7.0/10
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 53, or Duolingo English Test 115
- WES course-by-course credential evaluation of Indian transcripts
- GRE and GMAT are optional for MS and MBA tracks; strong scores strengthen scholarship review
Undergraduate requirements for Indian applicants:
- Class 12 with 70% to 85% (recommended) from CBSE, ICSE, or state board
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 53, or DET 115
Key insight: DePaul waives the English test for Indian applicants whose bachelor’s was taught entirely in English, provided the university issues a medium-of-instruction letter. Confirm the specific waiver track with the CDM Graduate Admission Office before skipping the test.
DePaul University Acceptance Rate 2027
DePaul University reported a 76% undergraduate acceptance rate for Fall 2024, positioning it as a moderately selective private US institution. The graduate rate is not published centrally, though CDM admissions officers describe MS Computer Science and Cybersecurity as more competitive than the overall figure suggests.
| Year | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| Fall 2024 | 76% | Latest official figure |
Historical acceptance rate trends beyond Fall 2024 are not centrally disclosed by DePaul University. The 76% figure reflects the whole undergraduate cohort and should not be read as a direct proxy for MS or MBA selectivity.
Reality check: Indian applicants meeting the CGPA 6.5/10 and IELTS 6.5 thresholds usually receive admission decisions within six to eight weeks; the moderate acceptance rate does not mean weak applications succeed.

DePaul University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
DePaul University spans two campuses in Chicago. Lincoln Park houses residential and arts programmes, while the Loop campus in downtown Chicago hosts Kellstadt Business, Law, and CDM’s graduate quarters.
- Location and transport: The CTA Red and Brown Lines connect Lincoln Park to the Loop in twelve minutes; every enrolled student receives a U-Pass covering unlimited bus and rail travel
- Housing: On-campus housing is not guaranteed for graduate students; Indian applicants typically secure private apartments in Lincoln Park, Uptown, or Rogers Park
- Notable facility: The Richard M. and Maggie C. Daley Building on Jackson Boulevard hosts Kellstadt classes inside Chicago’s Loop financial district
- Indian community: The Indian Student Association and DePaul Sangam host Diwali, Holi, and Republic Day events across both campuses; 6% international enrolment across 136 countries anchors a large South Asian cohort
What Indian students say: Winter cold is real but classroom heating and covered CTA stations reduce campus exposure; Devon Avenue’s Indian grocery corridor is a fifteen-minute Red Line ride from Lincoln Park, keeping home-style cooking affordable.

[Source: QS, THE, US News, Collegedunia Study Abroad]
Key insight: Indian applicants filtering universities by QS World rank alone will screen DePaul out; those weighing US News National and subject rankings — the metrics US employers and F-1 visa officers actually recognise — will see a materially stronger placement.

DePaul University Placements and Career Outcomes
DePaul University routes graduate placements through the CDM Career Center for computing tracks and the Kellstadt Career Management Center for MBA and Analytics. Chicago’s Loop financial district sits within a CTA ride of both campuses, giving Indian graduates direct access to local recruiters.
- Placement rate: DePaul does not publish a central graduate placement rate; college-level career reports are released internally
- Median starting salary: Not disclosed centrally; US market medians for MS Computer Science graduates from Chicago-area universities sit near $95,000 (₹90.9 lakh)
- STEM-OPT work window: MS Computer Science, Data Science, and Cybersecurity graduates receive 12 months of OPT plus a 24-month STEM extension
- Recruiter access: Chicago-based Fortune 500 employers recruit on-campus in banking, consulting, and technology; specific recruiter lists are not published centrally
- Careers support: Both centres run resume clinics, alumni mentoring, and quarterly on-campus recruiting drives open to F-1 students
Insider note: Indian MS graduates converting into H-1B typically use the 36-month F-1 window to run through two H-1B lottery cycles, materially raising conversion odds over a 12-month non-STEM path.
DePaul University vs Peer Universities
Indian applicants comparing DePaul University usually shortlist other private and public Chicago-area universities of similar size and Indian intake. The table below benchmarks DePaul against four peers on rank, average PG fees, and one differentiator.
| University | US News National (2026) | Avg Annual PG Tuition | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| DePaul University | #169 | $23,592 (₹22.6 lakh) | Quarter calendar with four annual intakes; STEM-OPT CS |
| Loyola University Chicago | Not disclosed (estimated) | $25,000 (₹23.9 lakh) estimated | Catholic peer; Rogers Park lakeshore campus |
| University of Illinois Chicago | Public research tier | $21,000 (₹20.1 lakh) estimated | Public R1 research; lower tuition |
| Illinois Institute of Technology | Not disclosed (estimated) | $32,000 (₹30.6 lakh) estimated | STEM-focused private; Bronzeville campus |
| Marquette University | Not disclosed (estimated) | $24,000 (₹23.0 lakh) estimated | Catholic peer in Milwaukee; smaller Indian cohort |
DePaul University stands out among Chicago-area private universities for its four-window quarter calendar, mid-tier private tuition, and CDM’s STEM-designated MS tracks with the full 36-month OPT runway. Kellstadt’s MBA Entrepreneurship #15 US News subject rank gives the business school a niche recruiting draw.
DePaul University fits Indian applicants targeting a Chicago Loop location, moderate selectivity, and a full 36-month post-study work window on a total MS investment of ₹43.5 to 51.7 lakh. Kellstadt’s MBA Entrepreneurship subject strength and CDM’s STEM-OPT eligibility justify the mid-tier private tuition against a US market median starting salary near $95,000.
DePaul University is not the fit for applicants who screen strictly by QS World top 500 rank or need guaranteed on-campus graduate housing. Applicants prioritising QS badge and residential guarantees will find Illinois Institute of Technology a more suitable Chicago alternative.
DePaul University FAQs
Ques. Does DePaul University require GRE or GMAT for MS admission?
Ans. DePaul University treats GRE and GMAT as optional for MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, and the Kellstadt MBA. Strong scores strengthen the scholarship and assistantship review but are not a rejection trigger when absent. Indian applicants with a CGPA below 6.5/10 usually submit GRE 315 or higher to compensate; competitive candidates with CGPA 7.5/10 and above routinely apply without either test.
Ques. How can Indian applicants request an IELTS waiver at DePaul?
Ans. DePaul waives the IELTS or TOEFL for Indian applicants whose bachelor’s was taught entirely in English, provided the university issues a medium-of-instruction letter on official letterhead. The letter must confirm English as the sole classroom and examination language across all four years. CDM and Kellstadt review waiver requests case by case, so submit the letter with the admission application rather than after decision.
Ques. What part-time work hours can F-1 students log at DePaul?
Ans. F-1 students at DePaul can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during academic quarters and 40 hours during official breaks. Off-campus work is restricted to Curricular Practical Training or Optional Practical Training authorisations. Common on-campus roles include CDM lab assistant, library desk, and Kellstadt research support, with hourly rates from $15 to $22.
Ques. Are interviews mandatory for MS applications at DePaul University?
Ans. Interviews are not mandatory for most CDM MS tracks, including Computer Science, Data Science, and Cybersecurity. Kellstadt MBA candidates receive an interview invitation only after the initial file review, conducted via video for international applicants. MS Human-Computer Interaction and MS Health Informatics may request a short video portfolio walkthrough when applicant work experience is limited.
Ques. How much is the DePaul application fee for international students?
Ans. DePaul’s graduate application fee is $40 for most CDM and Kellstadt tracks. The fee is waived for applicants who attend a DePaul international recruitment event, an open house, or receive a fee-waiver code from an authorised education counsellor in India. Undergraduate first-year applicants pay $40, waived for Common Application submissions during official waiver windows.
Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans recognising DePaul University?
Ans. State Bank of India, HDFC Credila, Bank of Baroda, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank list DePaul University on their US education loan panels. Non-collateral loans up to ₹40 lakh are available from HDFC Credila and Avanse; collateralised loans up to ₹1.5 crore cover the full MBA or MS Cybersecurity cost. The I-20 issued by DePaul is the primary document banks use to release sanction letters.
Ques. What transcript verification does DePaul University need from Indian applicants?
Ans. DePaul University requires a WES course-by-course credential evaluation for all Indian bachelor’s degrees. The evaluation converts the Indian CGPA to a US 4.0 GPA scale and confirms four-year degree equivalence. Applicants must order the evaluation directly from WES using DePaul’s institution code; processing runs six weeks on standard service and three weeks on express, so start eight weeks before the target deadline.
Ques. Can F-1 students at DePaul University bring dependents on F-2 visas?
Ans. DePaul University issues F-2 dependent I-20 documents for spouses and children of enrolled F-1 students. Applicants must demonstrate additional financial proof — roughly $8,000 per year per dependent — through bank statements or a sponsor affidavit. F-2 spouses cannot work in the US but can enrol part-time; F-2 children can attend US K-12 schools free of charge on Chicago Public School district enrolment.

- The university has a free gym facility with all the equipment. You can play most of the games here for free. But you need a club membership for some sports.
- The university has some good labs that you can access in Loop campus with enough computing.

Campus Life
- Depaul has two campuses and that's in downtown Chicago, and they have good transportation and I like that to travel even if we have evening classes. There are 20-25 per shift every day, and they help us in every detail if we find any difficulty. There are many fests that are going on on the campus every week.

Overview
I chose DePaul because of it's location as I wanted to live in a large, diverse area. The MBA program is broad and recognized globally. My experience at DePaul was absolutely great. I enjoyed the campus life and living in Lincoln Park, Chicago. I also enjoyed the classes and professors. Many of my professors had their doctorate degree. I also gained real work experience by working full time during my time as an MBA student. The professors and faculty at DePaul understood that I was a full time worker and were flexible based on these demands. I would definitely recommend DePaul to other students.
Campus Life
Campus life is fun and social. They offer networking events and even movie nights at the student center on campus. The libraries are also open 24 hours during finals week which I thought was great.
Overview
I needed to submit an Educational Credentials Evaluation report, Statement of Purpose and Resume. In my SoP, I talked about the purpose and motivations behind pursuing the MS in Business Analytics degree. I choose this course because of the curriculum of the program and huge variety of elective classes and major options. Also the flexibility of taking classes, changing majors (if needed), and helpful faculty. I've been enjoying my time at DePaul so far. Since we have a quarter (10-week) system here instead of semesters - the assignments, quizzes, etc. are given to us weekly with weekly deadlines to meet. The workload can get quite hectic but that kind of workload and effort is expected from a Master's program. It's not easy, but at the end you will feel accomplished and that it was worthwhile. I've made some great friends here as well!
Campus Life
Campus life is great, lots of stuff to do inside and outside of campus. DePaul has campuses in Downtown Chicago and Lincoln Park. So several events take place daily on both campuses. There is never a dull moment in DePaul!

- My application process was very much delayed and only a few options were left by the time I started applying in late June and July. Also I pivoted my field of study from engineering to business analytics in the last minute. I have initially applied to the engineering programs in universities and I even took admission. Later chagend my mind to pursue business analytics. So I had only two universities taking admissions by that time and this was the obvious choice considering the location, CHICAGO. And the curriculum was comprehensive and I really liked it.
- Location and the Opportunities it brings. Located in the heartland of Chicago, the third largest city in USA with it's architectural grandeur, is "the" place to live for many and it gives students wonderful opportunities to network and forge new relationships that can help boost their career. DePaul University's Kellstadt Graduate School of Business is renowned in mid West and has a wonderful curriculum especially for business analytics.

- "Considering the nature of online classes after COVID pandemic, the experience is similar to that of an online course. Even for the offline classes, there is an option to attend them online in most of the cases. And it's a practical reality that virtually all of the students choose online due to convenience. In this case, paying thousands of dollars, in business analytics, each credit hour was above 1100 USD when I was studying and that meant a simple SQL course of 4 credits, of which the entire syllabus could be learnt in a week, costed me $4,500. which in my opinion was absurd. There were other such subjects in the curriculum. Even though the curriculum was fantastic, the fees was absurd. Secondly, the management was very inefficient. Especially for the international students, the simplest of questions regarding academics or accounts or anything else had taken very long to get answered. Especially, after having submitted the documents online, as it was the way during pandemic, my account was put on hold after a few quarters out of nowhere and I had to submit the hard copy again. I had some questions regarding accounts and well as academiics, I had to go from one office to the other only sent back to the same office again and they themselves didn't know that they were supposed to answer it. Usually it's the student employees at the desk of the office. And contacting the advisor would be the option and emails is very inefficient and time consuming. The zoom sessions are scheduled and usually have waitingtimes. I feel there should be a better way to manage the process for international students considering the sheer amount of volume surge in recent years. "
Overview
It was a great time overall.
Campus Life
The campus is wonderful and that's still an understatement. There are many activities happening all around the year. Also many students miss on most of them as a lot would be happening in the main campus but a lot of the masters degree classes are conducted at the loop campus. It has its fair share of events too. But due to online classes many of them miss these and that a bad thing. I suggest students interact with other nationals and start networking early on.

Overview
I chose DePaul University due to its two wonderful locations. The main campus in Lincoln Park and the business school in the Loop (Downtown Chicago).
Campus Life
There is pretty much something for everyone as far as clubs go. There are two libraries, plenty of research facilities (they have traditional PC’s and iMacs). There is a softball field and that’s about it. Wi-Fi is so-so, could be better.

If English is not your native language you have to prove your proficiency in English language by submitting a valid ELP test score. The university accepts various ELP tests. The university also exempts this requirement for eligible students. I suggest you to please visit the International Admission page on the university’s website to check if you are eligible for exemption.
