Insider note: Indian applicants concentrate in the STEM-designated M.S. Computer Science, M.S. Cyber Security and M.S. Aviation tracks, mainly to secure the 36-month OPT extension after graduation. The M.A. Education and M.S.N. Nursing programmes recruit a smaller Indian cohort each year.
Lewis University Admission 2027
Lewis runs rolling admission across Fall and Spring intakes for Indian applicants, with Fall as the primary window for most master’s programmes and Spring reserved for a narrower course list.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 recommended deadline | 1 December 2026 | Applies to UG and PG international applicants; narrower programme list |
| Spring 2027 programme start | January 2027 | Confirm start week per programme calendar |
| Fall 2027 recommended deadline | 1 August 2027 | Primary intake for STEM master’s; rolling review before this date |
| Fall 2027 programme start | August 2027 | Orientation typically one week before classes |
| WES credential verification | Start 6 to 8 weeks before deadline | Course-by-course evaluation required for Indian transcripts |
[Source: Lewis University International Application Instructions]
The published deadline is a hard cut-off, not a priority date. An application missing a transcript or English score on the deadline is deferred to the next semester. Compared with peers among the MSc universities in USA, Lewis is unusual in charging no application fee on its own online portal.
Planning note: File the WES evaluation before booking the visa slot. Chicago consulate wait times cluster around three to four weeks in peak Fall season, and the I-20 will only issue once academic documents clear verification.

Lewis University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Lewis is test-optional for standardised admissions tests, so English proficiency and academic transcripts carry the highest weight for Indian applicants.
Postgraduate Requirements at Lewis University
- Academic: Indian bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended threshold; the official page describes it as a "good undergraduate record")
- English test: TOEFL iBT 79 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS 6.5, PTE Academic 52, or Duolingo Academic 105
- Credential evaluation: Course-by-course WES report for all Indian transcripts
- Application file: Statement of Purpose, two Letters of Recommendation, resume, and copy of passport bio page
Undergraduate Requirements at Lewis University
- Academic: Class 12 completion with 70% to 85% (recommended); official page requests "secondary school transcripts or national exam results"
- English test: TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, PTE Academic 52, or Duolingo Academic 105
- SAT or ACT: Not required for most programmes under the test-optional policy
Key insight: Lewis accepts English proficiency waivers for applicants completing IGCSE A-Levels or IB with ACT or SAT scores, or two prior college-level English courses. CBSE and ISC transcripts alone do not qualify for the waiver, so plan to sit IELTS or PTE if your degree was in English-medium.
Lewis University Acceptance Rate 2027
Lewis University does not publish an official annual acceptance rate. Third-party trackers report a rate of 73% (estimated), placing it among the more accessible private universities in Illinois. The figure is directionally reliable but not officially confirmed by the university.
Selectivity varies by programme. STEM master’s tracks in Computer Science and Cyber Security review academic fit closely, while M.A. Education and M.S. Aviation follow the wider institutional rate more closely.
Reality check: A 73% headline rate does not mean automatic entry for Indian applicants. Incomplete files, missing WES evaluations and English scores below the published minimums are the top rejection reasons, not academic underperformance.

On-campus room and board runs $7,700 to $9,100 per semester with meal plan included, which sits above shared off-campus rentals but adds convenience for first-year students. Indian applicants weighing other MBA universities in USA should factor Chicago-region living cost into any tuition comparison.
Insider note: Off-campus 1BHK apartments in Romeoville and neighbouring Bolingbrook are often listed for $950 to $1,200 with shared occupancy. Signing a 12-month lease over a 9-month one usually shaves 8% to 10% off the monthly rent.

Lewis University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
The 410-acre main campus is set in Romeoville, Illinois, with a working airport used for aviation training and easy Metra rail access to Chicago’s downtown Loop.
- Location and transport: Romeoville, 55 km south-west of downtown Chicago; the Heritage Corridor Metra line connects to Chicago Union Station in around 50 minutes
- Housing: Twelve residence halls host about 1,300 on-campus students; on-campus housing is guaranteed for new international first-year students
- Aviation facility: A university-owned airport with a fleet used for the flight training programmes, one of a handful in U.S. Catholic higher education
- Indian student community: Active International Student Association hosts cultural nights and welcome dinners each semester; the university enrols students from more than 70 countries
- Academic support: Writing Centre, Math Studio and dedicated ISS office; International@LewisU.edu is the direct helpline for pre-arrival queries
What Indian students say: Indian students consistently flag the small class sizes and direct faculty access as the biggest positives, along with the low commute to Chicago for weekend internships. The most common concern is that off-campus grocery options require a car or shared ride.
Lewis University Scholarships 2027
Lewis funds a mix of automatic merit awards and a small pool of application-based scholarships. Undergraduate international students see the strongest support, with a smaller but still useful graduate merit line for master’s applicants.

| Freshman Academic Scholarship | Merit, automatic | $1,000 to $21,000 per year | Incoming international freshmen; awarded on Class 12 record | Rolling with admission decision |

| Graduate Merit Award | Merit | Up to $3,900 per year | Full-time master’s students; assessed on bachelor’s GPA | Rolling with admission decision |
| Hagan International Scholarship | Application-based | Verify at official page | First-semester international graduate students | 1 May annually |

Planning note: The Hagan International Scholarship 1 May deadline sits earlier than the Fall admission decision, so file admission documents by mid-March if you want to be considered in the same review cycle.

Lewis is also listed among US News-ranked universities in USA and appears in Niche’s 2026 Best Colleges for Aviation ranking. Regional ranking tenure carries F-1 visa credibility, which matters for financial reviewers at Indian consular interviews.
Key insight: Regional Universities Midwest is a distinct U.S. News category from National Universities. It groups institutions that offer master’s degrees and a limited number of doctoral programmes, and it is the correct benchmark for Lewis rather than the National tier.

Lewis University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Lewis reports strong employment continuity for its degree holders, with outcomes concentrated in the Chicago-region job market and STEM-designated pathways to OPT extensions.
- Employed one year after graduation: 91% across all majors
- Employed five years after graduation: 89%
- Median earnings five years post-graduation: $45,519 (₹43.4 Lakh)

Insider note: Chicago’s healthcare, aviation and logistics employers form the natural recruiter base for Lewis graduates. Indian graduates in the M.S. Aviation and M.S.N. Nursing tracks report the strongest interview conversion, driven by regional demand rather than a formal on-campus placement cell.
Lewis University vs Peer Universities
The peer set below is drawn from Illinois-based Regional Universities Midwest, the tier where Lewis actually competes for Indian STEM master’s applicants.
| University | U.S. News Regional Midwest 2026 | Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / ₹ Lakh) | Differentiator |

[Source: U.S. News 2026, individual university fee schedules cross-referenced against QS-ranked universities in USA data]
Lewis stands out for the combination of a live aviation campus, the STEM OPT pool across its master’s roster and a total cost that sits below Loyola Chicago and Dominican. It trails Elmhurst on U.S. News rank but leads on aviation and cyber security breadth.
Founded in 1932 as an aviation training school, Lewis University suits Indian applicants who value STEM OPT eligibility and Chicago proximity at a mid-range total cost. Two-year investment lands between ₹47 and ₹65 Lakh in tuition; median five-year earnings sit at $45,519, or ₹43.4 Lakh a year, giving a workable ROI once OPT extension work is factored in. F-1 approval rates for regional-tier U.S. universities remain steady for well-documented Indian files.
Applicants targeting a top-50 QS World rank, doctoral research output or a large India-alumni network will find better fit at national-tier peers such as Illinois Institute of Technology or the University of Illinois Chicago. Lewis is not the pick for a research PhD track either, given its narrow doctoral portfolio.
Lewis University FAQs
Ques. Is Lewis University a STEM-designated school for Indian graduates?
Ans. Yes, Lewis University offers STEM-designated master’s tracks in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Aviation and Business Analytics. Graduates of these programmes on an F-1 visa qualify for the standard 12-month OPT and a 24-month STEM OPT extension, totalling 36 months of post-completion work authorisation in the United States. Non-STEM master’s such as MBA and M.A. Education receive only the 12-month OPT.
Ques. Can Indian students waive the IELTS or TOEFL at Lewis University?
Ans. Lewis grants an English proficiency waiver only to applicants who completed IGCSE A-Levels or International Baccalaureate paired with ACT or SAT scores, students transferring in with two prior college-level English courses, or those completing an ESL programme at partnered institutions. CBSE, ISC and state-board Class 12 completion in English-medium schooling does not qualify for the waiver, so Indian applicants should sit IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or Duolingo Academic.
Ques. Does Lewis University charge an application fee for international students?
Ans. Lewis University charges no application fee on its own online application portal for international applicants across undergraduate and graduate programmes. Applications routed through the Common App may attract that platform’s separate service charge, which the university does not control. Waiver-eligible categories on Common App reduce this to zero. Payment terms are confirmed in the application receipt email.
Ques. How much can Indian students work on-campus at Lewis University?
Ans. Indian students on an F-1 visa can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during active academic terms and up to 40 hours per week during official university breaks such as summer, winter and spring recess. Common on-campus roles include library assistants, aviation lab support, dining services and departmental teaching assistantships. All positions require SSN application, which the International Student Services office coordinates within the first three weeks of enrolment.
Ques. Which Indian education loan lenders recognise Lewis University?
Ans. Lewis University appears on the approved-institution lists of HDFC Credila, Avanse Financial Services, Auxilo, InCred and the State Bank of India Global Ed-Vantage scheme. Collateral requirements typically kick in above ₹40 Lakh for public-sector lenders and ₹60 Lakh for non-banking financiers. Pre-visa loan approval is usually available within two weeks of the I-20 receipt if academic and salary documents are ready.
Ques. Does Lewis University require credential evaluation for Indian transcripts?
Ans. Yes, Lewis University requires a course-by-course credential evaluation through World Education Services, or WES, for every Indian applicant submitting Class 12 marksheets or a bachelor’s degree. The evaluation converts Indian percentages and CGPA into a U.S. GPA scale for admissions review. Applicants should file the WES order six to eight weeks before the recommended application deadline, since processing plus university receipt can take up to 40 working days end-to-end.
Ques. Are there English-taught bachelor’s programmes at Lewis for Indian students?
Ans. All undergraduate programmes at Lewis University are delivered in English, including the 80+ bachelor’s majors across business, computer science, aviation, nursing, education and liberal arts. There is no separate international-track programme, so Indian first-year students share classrooms with domestic peers. Foundation or pathway years are not required for applicants meeting the direct English proficiency thresholds on the official page.
Ques. Can I bring a dependent spouse to Lewis University on an F-2 visa?
Ans. Yes, Indian F-1 students at Lewis University can bring a spouse or children under 21 on an F-2 dependent visa. The I-20 for dependents is issued by the International Student Services office on submission of proof of relationship and additional financial documentation, typically an extra $6,000 to $8,000 per dependent per year. F-2 spouses cannot work in the United States and can only enrol in part-time study.

- Insurance = $750 per semester
- Fees can be paid semester-wise, either in advance or through Nelnet EMI. However, enrolling in Nelnet EMI costs an additional $60 enrollment fee per semester.

- Average Fee per month = $2062
- Rent = $400-$2000 (depends on type and location of stay)
- Food = $350-$800 (depends on how often we eat outside)
- Car/Transport = $650-$800 (If purchased on EMI)

Overview
It was close to home and they offered the programs I was interested in taking. They also offered competitive pricing and scholarships for any new student. Lewis University is pretty well known in the Chicagoland area.
Fees
Tuition was owed at the beginning of each semester. You had to set up the payment in the front office building to make sure you are all set and let the loan companies and/or banks handle it from there.
