Lewis University Application Deadlines

Lewis University admits international students in three intakes — Fall (August), Spring (January), and Summer — reviewed on a rolling basis through the university’s own online application. The two windows Indian applicants use most are Fall and Spring, and the office recommends filing at least three to five weeks before the stated cut-off to allow document processing. Dates below are drawn per the Lewis International Application Guide.

Lewis University’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (August) — most STEM-designated master’s programs open here.

Intake Level Deadline
Spring 2027 UG and PG 1 November 2026
Fall 2027 (Primary intake) UG and PG 1 June 2027

Lewis University Eligibility for Indian Students

Lewis University uses a single institution-wide floor for both academic and English criteria, with individual programs layering prerequisites on top. Indian applicants are judged on Class XII marks (for UG) or Bachelor’s percentage or CGPA (for PG), and English proficiency is required for every applicant unless a waiver applies.

Academic Minimums for Indian Applicants

  • UG general entry: High school graduation or equivalent is required. Lewis University does not publish a universal 65% Class XII cutoff.
  • PG general entry: A bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA is required for full admission, although individual programs may set higher requirements.
  • Prerequisite subjects: Requirements vary by program. Applicants should check the specific course requirements for programs such as Computer Science, Data Science and Engineering.
  • MBA: A bachelor’s degree is required, with additional requirements varying by program.

English Test Minimums at Lewis

IELTS Academic 6.5
TOEFL iBT 79
PTE Academic 52

Lewis University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

  • Lewis publishes several English-proficiency waivers on its English proficiency requirements page. Indian applicants can qualify without an IELTS or TOEFL score through any of the routes below.

    • Medium of instruction letter confirming full secondary or Bachelor’s coursework was delivered in English.

    • IGCSE A-Level English combined with an ACT or SAT score.
    • International Baccalaureate results paired with an ACT or SAT score.
    • Two completed college-level English courses at a US institution for transfer applicants.

The university reserves the right to re-test any admitted student, so keep IELTS or TOEFL prep active even where a waiver letter is issued.

Lewis University PG Programs and English Requirements

Lewis University Application Process

The whole application is filed through Lewis’s own online portal. There is no Common App or state-consortium route, and the university does not charge an application fee, so the only sticker cost during application is the English test and document courier. The full sequence for a Fall or Spring cycle looks like this.

  1. Create an account on the Lewis online application at grad.lewisu.edu (PG) or the first-year application (UG).
  2. Complete the application form, selecting your intake and program. No application fee is required at any stage.
  3. Upload secondary or Bachelor’s transcripts, translated to English if issued in another language.
  4. Submit English proficiency scores (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Duolingo) or a valid waiver letter.
  5. Attach passport bio-page copy plus program-specific extras such as SOP, LORs, or CV for PG.
  6. Track processing, which typically runs 3 to 5 weeks after all documents are uploaded.

Lewis University Admission Decisions

Lewis processes completed applications on a rolling basis, so decisions do not wait until a batch deadline. Once every required document is on file, the international team publishes a decision within three to five weeks, and admitted students receive both the acceptance letter and the I-20 form.

  • Decision timeline: 3 to 5 weeks from a complete file.
  • Offer type: Direct admission for applicants who meet all thresholds; conditional English admission is possible for waiver cases.
  • Acceptance deadline: Typically 30 days from offer, with tuition deposit due to trigger I-20 issue.
  • Deferral policy: Incomplete files auto-defer to the next open semester; admitted students may request a manual deferral in writing.

Once the I-20 is in hand, the student pays the SEVIS I-901 fee and books the F-1 visa interview at the nearest US consulate — see the visa section below for that flow.

Lewis University Documents Required for Indian Students

Lewis maintains a short, paper-light checklist compared with many US peers because the university handles credential evaluation in-house rather than mandating a third-party evaluator for every applicant. Every document below is uploaded to the online portal during application — nothing is couriered separately, though the university reserves the right to ask for originals during I-20 processing.

Paperwork Every Indian Applicant Submits

  • Completed Lewis online application form.
  • Passport bio-page scan, valid for the full duration of study.
  • Class XII marksheet and school leaving certificate (for UG applicants).
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and consolidated marksheet (for PG applicants).
  • Official English proficiency test score report or waiver letter.
  • Statement of Purpose describing academic and career goals (PG only).
  • Two Letters of Recommendation from academic or professional referees (PG only).
  • Updated resume or CV showing education, internships, and any work experience (PG only).
  • Financial affidavit and bank statement covering the first-year cost of attendance (required at I-20 stage).

Planning note: Start the Passport, WES evaluation, and English test at least four months before the intake deadline. This buffer keeps the file complete on submission and avoids the auto-defer risk flagged earlier.

Lewis University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Lewis University reports an institutional acceptance rate of roughly 71.3% across recent cycles, placing it in the access-oriented band — meaning most academically prepared applicants who meet the published minimums receive an offer. The rate is not broken down by nationality, but Indian applicants who clear the 3.0 GPA and IELTS 6.5 floor are typically admitted on the first review.

How Lewis Compares Across US Peers

Lewis sits in a friendlier admissions band than mid-tier public research universities, which is a deliberate part of its access-focused positioning. It is not a selective admit — see Lewis’s ranking band on collegedunia for its place in the national ordering.

What Actually Drives a Rejection

Rejections at Lewis usually come down to missing English scores, no waiver letter on file, or a Bachelor’s GPA below the 3.75 line. Program-level rejections in Cybersecurity and Data Science can also stem from a Bachelor’s without any quantitative coursework — even when the GPA is comfortably above 3.0.

Lewis University admissions reward preparation more than test scores — Indian applicants who file complete, waiver-supported files in the first review window rarely see a rejection, and the Fall intake keeps STEM cohort options widest. Line up documents by mid-March for June and by mid-August for November, and the rolling review handles the rest.

Scholarship

  • Scholarships are available; however, those are very competitive and mostly have multiple eligibility criteria and are hardly achievable. I have never received one; however, I was able to get a student worker job right in the first semester and later got an offer to work on CPT.
  • I do not know of any other batchmates who received scholarships. Most scholarships are awarded in the sports category.
  • Many students receive scholarships as they meet all requirements. I wasn't one in that list.

  • None of my batchmates even received the scholarship , so I have no idea about that because I haven't see any scholarship in my college . I guess the fees was not that much so might be the reason.

Scholarship

  • International students have limited scholarship opportunities, with the main option being a Graduate Assistantship.

  • As a Graduate Assistant in University Advancement, I received a tuition waiver covering 70% of the tuition costs and a monthly stipend of $500.

  • This is one of the few forms of financial aid available to international students. While other batchmates also have assistantships, these positions are competitive and awarded based on academic performance and relevant skills.

  • On average, a small number of international students receive such scholarships each year, as the opportunities are limited, and award amounts vary depending on the department and role

Overview

It was close to home and they offered the programs I was interested in taking. They also offered competitive pricing and scholarships for any new student. Lewis University is pretty well known in the Chicagoland area.

Scholarship

Yes, I used both private and state loans to pay for college. Overall the process was easy from the sign up to fulfillment.
