Campus Life

  • Campus life at Illinois Institute of Technology is vibrant and engaging, offering a wide range of opportunities for learning, networking, and personal growth. The university has many student clubs, catering to diverse interests. I serve as the Vice Chair of the SGA – Students Global Association, which has helped me develop leadership skills, meet new people, and learn beyond the classroom. Clubs like this provide excellent opportunities to explore new areas, collaborate with peers, and gain practical experience.
  • The campus also has a well-equipped sports center offering a variety of activities, including swimming, basketball, badminton, tennis, soccer, pickleball, and baseball. These facilities are great not only for fitness but also for learning new sports and socializing with fellow students.
  • The library is another highlight, offering a peaceful environment with individual study rooms as well as group study areas. It provides access to a wide range of academic resources, making it an ideal place for focused learning and research.
  • Overall, the campus infrastructure, extracurricular opportunities, and recreational facilities contribute to a balanced student life, combining academics, sports, and social engagement in a supportive environment.

  • My family helped me look for accommodation, so I did not use external platforms. However, for new students, I strongly recommend using official university housing options or contacting the leasing office directly, rather than relying on online groups, Discord, or Telegram, as many scams target international students. Careful verification of all sources is essential.
  • Monthly rent varies by location and type of accommodation, with a bare minimum of $350–$450. Additional expenses, such as utilities and Wi-Fi, are around $50 per month, and food costs range from $50–$100, making the total bare minimum approximately $500–$600 per month. Students should plan carefully and prioritize trusted channels to avoid scams.

  • Vibrant student community with lots of ways to connect beyond academics. There are 150+ student organizations, including cultural, professional, recreational, and social groups — and you can even start your own club.
  • Students organize hundreds of events every year, from cultural festivals and guest lectures to fairs, workshops, and casual gatherings.

  • The accommodation was comfortable, affordable, and student-friendly, with good connectivity to campus and essential amenities. Sharing housing also helped with cost savings and social interaction, especially as an international student. I found accommodation through WhatsApp groups for around 500 to 800$ per month.

  • I am not too active person, my experience is I hung out a lot with my friends at homes and I was busy with either RA, Internship or so on. didn't experience much.
  • but their were several events happening once in a while, and there's like a sports club/bar kinda thing where you can play different sports, both indoor and outdoor, and a gaming console, etc.

  • Cost of accommodation: We did not stay in dorms; we stayed in houses near the campus, which are relatively cheaper. A housing crisis exists since lots of students and very few accommodations. I paid around 400-600$(shared space).

  • IIT Chicago has basically one main campus in downtown Chicago, very close to the city center
  • The campus has a library, computer labs, sports facilities, a small gym, a cafeteria, a health center… all the basic things you need
  • The library is good with study space and digital resources, but sometimes seating is limited in peak time
  • Sports facilities are okay, basketball court, small gym, a few outdoor fields, not super big, but enough for students
  • The campus organizes a few major events: the annual tech fest, cultural fest, hackathons, and career fairs
  • Clubs are also there, like coding club, robotics club, debate club, photography club, dance/music groups
  • Some student orgs also help with volunteering, community service, and networking events
  • Extracurriculars are a mix of sports, cultural events, and workshops… You can join any based on interest
  • Fests are fun, Tech Fest has competitions, hackathons, coding challenges, prizes… very interactive
  • The cultural fest has music, dance, food stalls… a lot of students participate and enjoy
  • Clubs are mostly student-run, and you can learn leadership and teamwork through them
  • Sometimes, guest lectures from industry people or alumni are also organized, which helps in learning outside the classroom
  • Overall, campus life is good, not very big but interactive, and you meet people from different countries
  • Some events can be crowded but overall enjoyable, which helps break the monotony of studies
  • Few students stay busy with studies and internships, so participation depends on your schedule

  • I opted for off-campus accommodation; on-campus was too costly and not available immediately
  • I found my place mostly through Facebook groups and Telegram groups, and some listings from online rental platforms also
  • monthly rent was around 800–900 USD, included basic furniture, internet, and sometimes water/electricity, partly included
  • Challenges were many… landlords sometimes fake photos, some places are too far from campus, negotiation also takes time
  • A few places require a deposit of 1–2 months, and  sometimes they ask for extra charges for utilities
  • Based on my experience, I recommend starting to search early, joining local student groups, and visiting the place before paying anything
  • Also, negotiate for rent and check neighborhood safety before finalizing
  • My accommodation was around 25–30 mins by bus from college, sometimes 15–20 mins if the traffic is good
  • Most Indian students prefer staying closer to downtown or near CTA lines for easy commuting
  • Shared apartments are common, cheaper, and better for meeting new people
  • Some friends stayed in nearby suburbs, which are cheaper but have longer commutes
  • Overall off-campus experience is manageable, but you need patience and carefulness while finalizing
  • On-campus dorms are convenient but very expensive and have less freedom
  • transportation cost adds extra if you stay far, so plan accordingly
  • Also check the grocery, laundromat, and food options near the accommodation before taking place

  • College has 2 campuses - 1st one is the downtown campus for management, finance, and law students. And the main Mies campus is at 33rd Street.
  • College has the main MTCC common student facilities. The bog for amusement and games, and drinks. There is the Keating Sports Centre for all sports. There is one open library named the Paul Galvin Library. College also has Student Health Services and the Clinical Food Nutrition department.
  • ISA used to organise Ganesh Puja, Diwali, graba, Holi, Bollywood night, etc. Other than that, we have a weekly Isckon event for enlightenment, meditation and dinner, etc. There are other events occurring every biweekly in college halls by different groups.
  • You can join fraternity clubs, or you can join startup clubs, either. I was part of the Isckon club and ML tech club, a football or other sports club. You can even start your own club by registering at the college office.

  • I found accommodation by connecting with people over ISA WhatsApp, the College's Discord and telegram groups.
  • Rent is 1705 USD monthly, including gas and service utilities (excluding wifi and electricity), which is divided to be shared by 4-5 people.
  • The challenge was to find & group up with friends of the same courses and like-mindedness. I contacted even the Amber students to connect with the LM PS apartment management.
  • Recommendation would be to post messages in groups for all the preferences you want, like number of people, veg-non veg, courses, semesters, ethnicity, etc.
  • My accommodation is 20 20-minute walk away from college. Most Indians stay here only

  • Our university has four campuses. The main campus is in Mies Campus, which is located in Bronzeville, Chicago. Second is The Conviser Law Centre in downtown Chicago, which hosts Chicago-Kent College of Law and business-related graduate programmes. Third is The Rice Campus in Wheaton, which focuses on information technology and management programmes, particularly for working professionals. Lastly Lastly, the Moffett Campus in Bedford Park is dedicated to food safety and health research, housing the Institute for Food Safety and Health. All the facilities are available, such as a swimming pool, zumba classes, a gym, a badminton court, a volleyball court, a library, an interview room and a library space room for group discussion. All the festivals are celebrated, such as ganpati, some cricket matches, badminton matches, and volleyball matches by the ISA organisation, and TEDx talks by TEDxIllinois Tech as I was part of it and many more.

  • I used discord and my consultancy shared some numbers of those who were in my university. My monthly rent includes $325 with utilities like a fridge, gas and water. The only challenging part was not being able to be in touch with the broker or owner. Because of the time difference, it took quite a long time to finalize a house. So I suggest you find it as soon as possible.
  • I would say search on linkedin; reach out to seniors and ask them if they have any leads and they might share whatsapp group of accommodations. And my house is like 10 minutes away from uni by walking.

  • My University has mainly two campuses: the first one is the Miles campus, and the second is the Downtown campus. But the main and big campus is Miles campus. Miles campus offers various facilities like modern classrooms, libraries, and recreational areas.
  • One Indian student club organizes festival celebrations like Navaratri, Diwali, Ganesh puja, etc. on campus. Additionally, extracurricular activities like hackathons, competitions, career fairs, and workshops are frequently organized by the university.

Nearby college, two options are very famous if you want to stay off campus. First is Prairie Shores and second is Lake Meadows. In the comparison of both most are the same but Prairie Shores requires a guarantor for the lease application and Lake Meadows does not require it, students can easily sign the lease. You can see the availability and rent of the house and other details on their website and do all processes online. In my point of view, these are the best options for international students if they want to stay off-campus.
