Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
I choose the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, for its strong reputation in computer science, diverse curriculum, and the hands-on learning opportunities it provides. The specialized courses like machine learning, cloud computing, and big data align perfectly with my career goals. Additionally, the close interaction with faculty allows for a more personalized learning experience.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- I applied to the University of Chicago because of its prestigious programs and strong research opportunities. However, I was not accepted, which I believe might be due to the highly competitive nature of the admission process.
- Their selection criteria could have placed a greater emphasis on factors like research publications or GRE scores, where I might not have stood out as much compared to others.

Tips to enhance your application
To enhance the application we need to focus on some of the things like the strong personal statement in which we need to clearly explain our career goals, academic interests and why are applying for this program. The second thing is the resume which includes relevant projects, internships, and skills. The third important thing is letters of recommendation because the university requires at least two letters of recommendation either from educational or professional and it's a minimum requirement for admission. By following these tips you can enhance your application.
Admission Experience
I chose this university because of its strong academic reputation, particularly in computer science, and its specialised courses like big data technologies and machine learning, which align with my career goals. Apart from that, the campus is modern, and student organisations have allowed me to develop both personally and professionally. Overall, IIT offers the perfect balance of quality education and hands-on learning.
Class Schedule
- To maintain our full-time student status, we need to take a minimum of 3 subjects in each semester.
- We have three classes each week, around 2 hours for each.
- Class timing is usually 8:00 am to 10:00 pm., and an average of 60 students are in each class.
- If I talk about the ratio of Indian students, then it will be around 60% or less.
- Apart from that, we need to spend at least 2 hours every day on college work and self-study.
Faculty
- Faculty members at IIT are highly experienced and bring real-world insights to the classroom.
- The faculty-student ratio from my point of view is like 40 students per faculty.
- I like some of the professors because they are approachable, helping students with projects, job preparation, and research opportunities.
- Some of the faculty members in my program have strong connections in the tech field, they are assisting students in networking and securing internships.
Campus Life
- My University has mainly two campuses: the first one is the Miles campus, and the second is the Downtown campus. But the main and big campus is Miles campus. Miles campus offers various facilities like modern classrooms, libraries, and recreational areas.
- One Indian student club organizes festival celebrations like Navaratri, Diwali, Ganesh puja, etc. on campus. Additionally, extracurricular activities like hackathons, competitions, career fairs, and workshops are frequently organized by the university.
Part Time Jobs
- Many Indian students work as research assistants or teaching assistants within the university. Others find part-time internships in their field.
- It's very difficult to find on-campus jobs or internships because only 20% of students get their on-campus jobs.
- On-campus jobs include research and teaching assistantship, library work, and administrative roles.
- Usually, 10% of students get TA or RA jobs and 10% of students get administrative jobs. So around 20% of students get on-campus jobs. The typical pay range is between $12 to $18.
- Students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week not more than that.
- If I talk about off-campus we can do a field internship after completing two semesters at university.
Placement
- The career services team provides extensive support for securing full-time positions. Based on the current job market only 50% of student got their job from the previous batch.
- Students get an average of $70000 per year.
- Students typically find their jobs by applying on job-finding platforms like LinkedIn or Glassdoor.
- From the previous batch highest salary was $150000 and the lowest was $55000 for their roles.
Accommodation
Nearby college, two options are very famous if you want to stay off campus. First is Prairie Shores and second is Lake Meadows. In the comparison of both most are the same but Prairie Shores requires a guarantor for the lease application and Lake Meadows does not require it, students can easily sign the lease. You can see the availability and rent of the house and other details on their website and do all processes online. In my point of view, these are the best options for international students if they want to stay off-campus.
