SASTRA BBA LL.B. FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between BBA LL.B. and BA LL.B. at SASTRA? Which is better for corporate law?

Ans. The core law subjects are identical in both programmes. The difference lies in the non-law subjects: BBA LL.B. integrates Business Administration subjects (Organizational Behavior, Financial Management, HR Management, Business Statistics, International Business Environment), while BA LL.B. integrates Arts subjects (Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Public Policy). For students targeting corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, business compliance, or in-house counsel roles, BBA LL.B. is generally considered more relevant as it provides a strong business foundation alongside legal training.

Ques. Is CLAT mandatory for BBA LL.B. admission at SASTRA?

Ans. CLAT is required for Phase I admissions (based solely on CLAT scores). For Phase II, CLAT is not mandatory - if you haven't appeared for CLAT, your CLAT score is treated as 0 and your rank is computed based on Class XII marks alone (50% weightage). So you can still get admission in Phase II without a CLAT score, though having a good CLAT score significantly improves your chances.

Ques. What is the total intake for law programmes at SASTRA? How competitive is admission?

Ans. The total intake for all three integrated law programmes (BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB) combined is approximately 120 seats. Admission is competitive, especially for Phase I (CLAT-based). Students with CLAT ranks in the range of 5,000 to 15,000 have secured admission in past years. Phase II admissions (combining CLAT + Class XII scores) provide an additional opportunity for students with strong board marks.

Ques. Does the BBA LL.B. programme at SASTRA have any industry tie-ups or internship opportunities?

Ans. Yes, SASTRA's School of Law has mandatory internships each semester with law firms and advocates. The university also has collaborations with premier law schools abroad for meaningful internship and study abroad programmes. The placement cell facilitates connections with top law firms and corporate legal departments. The BBA LL.B. background is particularly valued by corporate law firms and in-house legal teams of companies.

Ques. How is the infrastructure at SASTRA School of Law?

Ans. The School of Law operates from a dedicated building called "Chanakya" on the SASTRA campus. It has a state-of-the-art moot court hall, a well-stocked legal library with access to online legal databases, seminar rooms, and computer labs. The overall SASTRA campus infrastructure is excellent, with Wi-Fi connectivity, a hospital, sports facilities, a bank (IOB), and a canteen. The campus is fully residential with separate hostels for boys and girls.

Ques. What are the career options after BBA LL.B. (Hons.) from SASTRA beyond campus placements?

Ans. Beyond campus placements, BBA LL.B. graduates from SASTRA have several career paths. Many join corporate law firms as associates, handling mergers and acquisitions, contract drafting, and compliance work. Others join the in-house legal teams of companies like TCS, HDFC Bank, or EY. Some pursue LLM programmes from Indian or foreign universities to specialize further. Judicial services (Civil Judge exams) and government legal positions are also popular options. The combination of business and legal knowledge makes BBA LL.B. graduates versatile professionals in the legal and business world.
