IGNOU MBAFM FAQs

Ques. Is IGNOU MBAFM suitable for CA/CMA/CFA aspirants or professionals?

Ans. Yes, the MBAFM is highly complementary for CA, CMA, and CFA aspirants and professionals. The curriculum covers advanced finance topics like Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, International Financial Management, and Equity Markets, which align well with professional finance certifications. The distance learning format allows you to pursue both simultaneously without leaving your job.

Ques. What specialised finance subjects are covered in the MBAFM programme?

Ans. The MBAFM includes specialised finance courses in Semesters 3 and 4: Working Capital Management (MMPF-001), Capital Investment and Financing Decisions (MMPF-002), Management Control Systems (MMPF-003), Management of Financial Services (MMPF-006), Security Analysis and Portfolio Management (MMPF-004), International Financial Management (MMPF-005), Management of Insurance Services (MMPF-011), and Equity Markets (MMPF-007).

Ques. What is the difference between IGNOU MBAFM and IGNOU PGDFM?

Ans. IGNOU offers both the MBAFM (MBA in Financial Management, 2-year degree) and the PGDFM (Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management, 1-year diploma). The MBAFM is a full MBA degree with AICTE recognition, covering both core management subjects and specialised finance electives. The PGDFM is a shorter diploma programme. For career advancement and recognition in government/corporate sectors, the MBAFM degree is more valuable.

Ques. How is the project report component handled in distance mode?

Ans. The project report (MMPP-001, 8 credits) in Semester 3 requires students to conduct research on a finance-related topic. Students can choose a topic related to their current workplace or industry, making it highly practical. The project is supervised by an IGNOU faculty member. Detailed project guidelines are available on the IGNOU SOMS website.

Ques. Is the IGNOU MBAFM degree recognised for finance roles in government organisations and PSUs?

Ans. Yes. The IGNOU MBAFM is AICTE-approved and recognised by UGC and AIU. It is accepted for finance roles in government organisations, public sector undertakings, banks, and central/state government departments that require an MBA or equivalent qualification. Many government and PSU employees pursue this degree for departmental promotions and career advancement.

Ques. Can I pursue IGNOU MBAFM if I have an engineering or science background?

Ans. Yes. IGNOU MBAFM is open to graduates from any discipline. The only requirement is a bachelor's degree with 50% marks (45% for reserved categories). Many engineers and science graduates pursue this programme to transition into finance roles or to add a management qualification to their technical background.
