IGNOU CFDE Fees

The CFDE programme at IGNOU has a total programme fee of Rs. 5,000, which includes the non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 300. A development fee of Rs. 200 is also applicable. Exam fees are charged separately at Rs. 200 per course at the time of TEE form submission. With 4 courses in the programme, the total cost including exam fees comes to approximately Rs. 6,200.

Registration Fee of Rs. 300 is non-refundable under all circumstances.

IGNOU CFDE Scholarships 2026

IGNOU students can avail scholarships from multiple government sources. IGNOU's own SC/ST fee waiver (Notification No. 76) applies only to UG programmes and not to certificate courses like CFDE. Students can apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Ques. I am already working in a garment factory. Will CFDE help me get a better position?

Ans. Yes. CFDE is specifically designed for people already working in the apparel sector who want to formalise their skills and advance their careers. The programme covers pattern making, sewing techniques, and fashion design fundamentals, which are directly applicable to roles like assistant designer, pattern maker, or quality checker in garment factories and export houses.

Ques. Does CFDE have practical sessions? How are they conducted in distance mode?

Ans. Yes. Three out of four courses in CFDE (BFDI-71, BFDI-72, BFDI-73) have practical components. Practical sessions are conducted at the assigned Study Centre (ITI/JSS/PMKK centre). You will need to visit your Study Centre for practical sessions as per the schedule communicated by the centre. The fourth course (BFD-74 - Communication and Entrepreneurship) is theory-only.

Ques. Can I start my own fashion design business after completing CFDE?

Ans. Yes. One of the explicit objectives of CFDE is to prepare students for entrepreneurship in the apparel sector. The programme includes a dedicated course on Communication and Entrepreneurship (BFD-74), which covers the basics of starting and running a business in the fashion industry. Combined with the practical skills in pattern making and sewing, CFDE provides a solid foundation for starting a small tailoring or fashion design enterprise.

Ques. Is CFDE equivalent to a formal fashion design degree?

Ans. No. CFDE is a certificate-level programme, not a degree. It is a vocational qualification that provides foundational skills in fashion design and pattern making. For a full-fledged career in fashion design at a higher level, you would need to pursue a diploma or degree in fashion design from a recognised institution. However, CFDE is a valuable credential for entry-level positions and entrepreneurship in the apparel sector.

Ans. CFDE is offered at Government ITIs, Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS), and PMKK centres across India.
