  • The University of Hertfordshire offers an MSc Computer Science with a duration of 1 year.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • To get admission to the University of Hertfordshire, students require Tier 4 Visa.
  • There are certain conditions that students must be aware of, these include:
    • the responsibilities as a student with Tier 4 leave,
    • the right to work in the UK,
    • police registration requirements.
  • The Student visa is part of the UK visas and immigration’s points-based system for students who wish to study in the UK.
  • To make a successful application students must meet the full requirements of the immigration rules and achieve 70 points.
  • Breakdown of 70 points, students will obtain:
    • 50 points for the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) sent to students by the University.
    • 10 points for maintenance, the financial requirements which show students have sufficient money to cover their course fees and living expenses.
    • The final 10 points are for the English language.
  • To apply from outside the UK, 
    • The earliest students can apply for a visa is 6 months before they start their course.
    • Students need to prove their identity as part of their application.
    • They'll usually get a decision within 3 weeks.
  • The University is required to check and keep copies of the following original documents when students register on their programme:

    • Passport or travel document.
    • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and visa vignette (including 30/90-day temporary vignette if applicable).
    • ATAS certificate (if required)
    • Evidence of English language competence.
    • Qualifications and references used to obtain their offer.
  • Financial requirements:
    • If students are applying for a course lasting 9 months or more, the maximum amount that students will need to show for maintenance is £9,207 which is the equivalent of £1,023 per month.
    • These funds need to be in the bank account for a minimum of 28 days prior to making their visa application.

Work Study

  • Most students entering the UK on a Tier 4 student visa are permitted to work.
  • If students are studying on a course at degree level or above then the maximum number of hours they can work during term time is 20 hours per week.
  • If students are studying on a course below degree level, which includes the International Foundation and English Language courses, then the maximum number of hours they can work during term time is 10 hours per week.
  • The student’s vignette or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) will tell students how many hours they are allowed to work each week.  
  • Paid or unpaid work will count towards their working hour limit.
