University of Hertfordshire admissions run across September, January and May intakes for Indian applicants, with undergraduate entry routed through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) and postgraduate applications submitted directly to the university. Undergraduate entry sits at Class XII around 65% with IELTS 6.0, while postgraduate taught courses expect a Bachelor’s at 55 to 60% plus IELTS 6.5.

  • Next live deadline: 13 January 2027, UCAS equal consideration for September 2027 undergraduate entry.
  • Base tuition: £17,450 (around ₹22.56 Lakhs) UG, plus a £50 (around ₹6,465) application fee via UCAS.
  • UG: Class XII around 65% plus IELTS 6.0. PG: Bachelor’s 55 to 60% plus IELTS 6.5 minimum.
  • Acceptance rate estimated around 70%, an access-oriented band that admits most eligible applicants.

Indian applicants most often target the MBA, MSc Cybersecurity, MSc Data Science and Analytics, and BSc Computer Science, with recent applicant reviews highlighting industry-aligned teaching and the Hatfield campus roughly 35 km north of London. For the wider institutional picture, see the University of Hertfordshire overview.

Status: Open. The September 2027 primary intake is live for both undergraduate and postgraduate applications. UCAS applications for 2027 UG entry have been submittable since 1 September 2026, and the equal consideration deadline is 13 January 2027. Postgraduate applications remain rolling on the university’s own portal, with a £50 (around ₹6,465) UCAS application fee for UG and no separate application fee for direct PG applications.

University of Hertfordshire Application Deadlines

The University of Hertfordshire runs three intakes for Indian applicants: September (primary), January and May. September opens the widest programme catalogue across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, while January and May carry a narrower postgraduate taught selection. Undergraduate applications are routed through UCAS, and postgraduate applications go direct through the university’s own online portal at herts.ac.uk. Postgraduate admissions are rolling, and the university confirms applications "normally close 6 weeks before the start of the course, earlier if the course is full".

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use £1 = ₹129.30, the live rate on 11 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Hertfordshire’s primary intake for Indian students is September, and most programmes open here, per the University of Hertfordshire international applicants page and the UCAS 2027 cycle dates.

University of Hertfordshire Eligibility and English Requirements for Indian Students

Academic eligibility at the University of Hertfordshire is set at institution-wide floors that individual programmes then tighten. Indian applicants should read the floors below alongside the specific course page for their chosen programme, since prerequisites (subject list, minimum grade in a subject) vary by discipline.

  • UG general entry: Class XII from a recognised board at around 65% overall (some competitive programmes ask 70 to 75%), with subject prerequisites where relevant (Mathematics and Physics for engineering).
  • PG taught entry: A three-year Indian Bachelor’s at 55 to 60% (equivalent to a UK 2:2), often 60%+ (UK 2:1) for competitive MSc programmes, in a discipline relevant to the chosen master’s.
  • PG research entry (MPhil/PhD): A Master’s degree with a strong grade, or a Bachelor’s with First Class (60%+), plus a research proposal aligned with a supervisor.

University of Hertfordshire English Requirements by Level

The University of Hertfordshire accepts several English proficiency tests. Confirmed institution-wide minimums per the Hertfordshire International College English requirements page:

University of Hertfordshire IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Indian applicants have a specific waiver route confirmed on the Hertfordshire International College English requirements page. You do not need an IELTS score if you meet the following Class XII English thresholds:

  • CBSE (Central Board): Class XII English at 60% or higher.
  • State Boards: Class XII English at 65% or higher, excluding Punjab, Haryana, Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh boards, whose Class XII English is not accepted for this waiver.
  • Pre-Masters (PMP) route: A Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter is accepted from around 20 recognised Indian universities, including the University of Delhi, Jadavpur University and Vellore Institute of Technology.

If your board or percentage falls outside these thresholds, you will need one of the accepted English tests. The university does not accept the Pearson Versant Test routinely.

University of Hertfordshire PG Programs and IELTS Scores

Hertfordshire’s postgraduate catalogue for Indian applicants is strongest in business, computing, data, engineering and health sciences. University of Hertfordshire MBA Admissions

The University of Hertfordshire MBA is a one-year full-time programme run out of Hertfordshire Business School, aimed at professionals with several years of managerial or business exposure. The programme is delivered from the de Havilland Campus at Hatfield and includes a consultancy project as the capstone.

University of Hertfordshire MBA Eligibility and Interview

  • Academic: An honours Bachelor’s degree at UK 2:2 or above (around 55% in Indian terms), or a relevant professional qualification.
  • Work experience: Ideally 5 years of relevant post-degree work experience. Applicants below this may be considered on the basis of business exposure, leadership and professional achievements.
  • Non-degree pathway: Suitable senior work experience without a Bachelor’s may be accepted in individual cases via a portfolio route.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall (no less than 5.5 in any component), or the equivalent TOEFL iBT/PTE score.
  • GMAT/GRE: Not required as a standard condition.
  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates are invited to a competency-based interview (usually online for overseas applicants) covering motivation, leadership evidence and career plan.

University of Hertfordshire MBA Fees and Rounds

MBA tuition for 2026 to 2027 international entry is £22,450 (around ₹29.03 Lakhs). There is no MBA application fee when applying direct through the university’s PG portal. The MBA is offered in September (primary) and January intakes; both run on rolling admissions rather than fixed rounds, and applications should be submitted at least 8 to 10 weeks before the intended start to allow for offer, CAS issuance and visa processing.

Insider note: Applicants with less than five years’ experience have the strongest chance when they present a clear leadership track record - line management, revenue ownership or a founder role - in the personal statement rather than relying on job titles alone.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Hertfordshire MBA page for your chosen intake before applying.

University of Hertfordshire PhD Admissions and Funding

Doctoral admissions at the University of Hertfordshire are supervisor-led. You identify a research group aligned with your area, secure supervisor interest, and then formally apply through the direct PG portal. October is the main PhD start, with a smaller February entry available in several schools.

University of Hertfordshire PhD Application Steps

  1. Identify a Hertfordshire research centre matching your area (Astrophysics, Health and Human Sciences, Business, Computer Science and so on).
  2. Draft a 1,500 to 2,500 word research proposal covering research question, methodology and expected contribution.
  3. Contact a prospective supervisor by email with your CV, proposal outline and academic transcripts.
  4. Once a supervisor confirms interest, submit the formal PhD application through the university’s PG portal along with two academic references.
  5. Attend an interview (usually online) covering your proposal, methodology and funding plan.

University of Hertfordshire PhD Stipend and Funding

Funded studentships (Science and Technology Facilities Council - STFC awards and UH-funded studentships) in Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics pay a tax-free stipend of £20,780 (around ₹26.87 Lakhs) per year for 2026 to 2027, and cover home-rate fees for typically 3.5 years. International PhD tuition ranges from £18,120 (around ₹23.43 Lakhs) to £28,900 (around ₹37.37 Lakhs) per year depending on discipline (lab-based sciences sit at the top). See the funding options for Indian students for a full scholarship list.

Planning note: STFC studentships are highly competitive and typically restricted; UH-funded studentships remain the most realistic funded route for Indian PhD applicants. Apply 6 to 9 months before the October start to be in the funded shortlist.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Hertfordshire research page for your chosen PhD before applying.

University of Hertfordshire Application Process

Undergraduate applications go through UCAS; postgraduate applications go direct through the university’s online form at herts.ac.uk. The steps below cover the direct PG route; UCAS applicants follow the standard UCAS timeline instead.

  1. Register on the applicable portal. Undergraduate applicants create a UCAS account (2027 cycle opened for submissions on 1 September 2026); postgraduate applicants create an account on the University of Hertfordshire direct application portal.
  2. Pay the application fee. UG applicants pay the £50 (around ₹6,465) application fee to UCAS at submission; PG applicants pay no application fee to the university.
  3. Upload documents. Scanned transcripts, degree certificate (or provisional), passport bio-page, English test report or waiver evidence, CV, statement of purpose and two academic references on letterhead.
  4. Track your application. UCAS applicants use the UCAS Hub; PG applicants receive an applicant ID immediately after submission and track offer status through the portal.
  5. Respond to offer conditions. If your offer is conditional (pending final marks or English test), submit the missing evidence promptly; unconditional offers unlock the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) issuance.
  6. Accept, pay deposit, request CAS. Confirm acceptance, pay the required tuition deposit, and request the CAS letter to begin the UK Student Route visa application.

University of Hertfordshire Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Postgraduate direct decisions typically arrive within 2 to 4 weeks of a complete submission; some competitive courses take longer. Undergraduate UCAS offers land through the UCAS Hub with a firm accept deadline set by UCAS after all offers arrive. Offers may be unconditional, conditional (pending final grades or English score), or unsuccessful, and the university operates a straightforward deferral policy where a September offer can usually be deferred to the following September on request.

University of Hertfordshire Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Prepare digital copies of all documents before starting the application. Photocopies or self-attested scans are accepted at application; the university may ask for original or certified copies at enrolment.

  • Passport: Valid biometric passport (bio-data page scan), with at least 6 months validity beyond your planned course end date.
  • Academic transcripts: All year-by-year marksheets from Class X onwards for UG applicants, and all Bachelor’s semester or year marksheets for PG applicants.
  • Degree certificate: Final degree or provisional certificate for PG applicants; Class XII certificate for UG applicants.
  • English proficiency evidence: IELTS/TOEFL/PTE score report or the Class XII English waiver evidence (marksheet showing the qualifying English score by board).
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP): A 500 to 1,000 word statement covering motivation, academic fit and career plan.
  • Letters of Recommendation (LOR): Two academic references on institutional letterhead (a mix of one academic and one professional is accepted for MBA and mid-career PG programmes).
  • CV or resume: Especially important for MBA and PG applicants with work experience.
  • Financial proof: Bank statements or an approved education loan sanction letter, needed for the CAS issuance stage rather than at application.
  • Passport photograph: Recent colour photograph in the UKVI biometric format.

University of Hertfordshire Acceptance Rate for International Students

The University of Hertfordshire does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party analyses that estimate the figure place it at around 70%, based on published applicant-to-offer patterns and Hertfordshire’s positioning as a modern post-1992 university that expands access.

How University of Hertfordshire Sets Its Admissions Bar

Hertfordshire runs an access-oriented model, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English thresholds rather than filtering aggressively for prestige signals. In practice, a well-prepared Indian applicant with Class XII around 65% for UG, or a Bachelor’s at 55 to 60% for PG, and the right English score should expect an offer for most non-clinical programmes.

University of Hertfordshire Program-Level Selectivity for Indians

Selectivity varies sharply by discipline. MSc Cybersecurity, MSc Data Science and Analytics and MSc Physiotherapy tighten to a 2:1 (60%+) equivalent and fill early each cycle. The MBA weights work experience heavily. BSc Business, BA International Business and general management PG courses are the least competitive at the institution-wide floor. Hertfordshire’s Guardian 2026 rank of 49 is a useful frame for its UK-national ranking band.

Insider note: The 70% figure is an institution-wide estimate; program-level acceptance for competitive MSc courses in Cybersecurity, Data Science and Physiotherapy is materially lower. Submit early in the cycle for these programmes.

UK Student Visa Process for University of Hertfordshire

Indian students admitted to the University of Hertfordshire apply for the UK Student Route visa, which is granted by the UK Home Office (not the university). Apply from India up to 6 months before your course start date. The visa needs a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) number issued by the university, financial proof that you can cover tuition plus 9 months of living costs (£1,136 per month for study outside London, which covers Hatfield), Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) payment of £776 per year of the course, TB test clearance from an approved Indian clinic, and biometric enrolment at a VFS Global centre. Some technology and physics-related courses (including elements of Aerospace Engineering) require Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) clearance before applying, added around 4 to 6 weeks to processing.

The visa fee is £524 for a Student visa from India. Priority services are available for an additional fee. Post-arrival, you must collect your Biometric Residence Permit within 10 days of entering the UK and register with the university’s international office. On successful completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s, you can apply for the Graduate Route visa, which permits 2 years’ post-study work (3 years for PhD graduates).

2026 update: The UK Home Office requires financial proof to be held in an eligible account for 28 consecutive days before the visa application submission date; funds moved in and out within this window will be rejected as evidence.

University of Hertfordshire Tips and Checklist

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at the University of Hertfordshire and cover both what to prioritise and when to act on it.

  • Target the waiver first: If your Class XII English meets the CBSE 60% or State Board 65% waiver, prepare the marksheet as your English evidence and skip an IELTS booking.
  • Book English test 12 weeks out: If you need IELTS, sit the test at least 12 weeks before your planned application submission to allow time for a retake if needed.
  • Request transcripts 8 weeks out: Indian universities often take 4 to 6 weeks to issue attested transcripts; start the request before you finalise the SOP.
  • Submit direct PG applications 8 to 10 weeks before intended intake: Rolling admissions do not mean instant decisions, and CAS issuance plus visa processing needs its own 6 to 8 week window.
  • UCAS applicants: Submit by 13 January 2027 for the September 2027 intake to lock in equal consideration across all five course choices.
  • Prepare financial proof early: Hold your funds in an eligible account for 28 consecutive days before the visa application - open the account and transfer funds 6 weeks before your planned visa date.
  • Order the CAS immediately after firm acceptance: Do not wait for the visa appointment - CAS issuance can take 5 to 10 working days at peak intake weeks.
  • Check ATAS need for STEM courses: Aerospace Engineering, some Physics MSc and PhD programmes need ATAS clearance; apply for ATAS 6 weeks before your visa date.

The University of Hertfordshire admissions cycle for Indian students is currently open for the September 2027 primary intake, with UCAS UG applications targeting the 13 January 2027 equal consideration deadline and PG applications running on rolling direct submission. Apply early to secure CAS and complete visa processing in time for the intake start.

Scholarship

  • Yes, there are a few scholarships available, mostly determined by entrance exam scores and academic achievement. During admission, certain entrance-based scholarships are automatically taken into account. Additionally, students who perform very well during the course are given internal rewards. Students should, however, arrange their expenses appropriately and not rely solely on scholarships due to the intense competition.

Scholarship

  • Yes, I did receive some scholarship that was worth 1000 pounds. This scholarship was from the university side. I didn’t apply for any other scholarship that is from any other source but there are some options that literally make the education fully funded by them.
  • There are some criteria that need to be fulfilled to avail that for which I was not eligible. The university scholarship is given to every student who pays the fee on time.

  • Yes, in this university we have got the scholarship, this scholarship is given by University of Hertfordshire itself.
  • Some students had got tri- year and some have got only a year. As I had got £1300 scholarship which is very much helpful for me with my tuition fees workout.
  • Nevertheless, not all the students got it as far as I know, because to those people to whom I met some of them have got and some haven’t.

Overview

Firstly! I applied for admission considering the specialized program and location of the University. I got admission without any delay. Alongside the University offered an early deposit tuition fee discount. I have wasted no time and paid my initial deposit. I proceeded further to the next steps, every step was smooth, to be honest. My overall experience at the university so far has been somewhat elevated compared to my previous experiences in the UG. I have chosen to apply to this university for different reasons. Firstly the advanced learning, depth of research techniques and industry-oriented training. The knowledge and skills needed to pursue a successful career are the main factor in this process. I could share more thoughts on my experiences when I am graduating next year.
