Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- At first the campus of Greenwich seemed more exciting but upon further research I found out that the University of Hertfordshire had a better course structure for my particular program with a lot more focus on practicals instead of theory.
- Not only this but the admin team of the university of Hertfordshire was much more helpful in every way which made me consider them more and more as the time went on.
- I also read that this university was the first to make a passenger jet plane called 'De Havilland Comet,' which was not related to my course but did excite me about the engineering prospects this university had to offer.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- It seems that I could get through to this university because of my grades.
- While this was very sad and disappointing, I was glad further down the line as the University of Hertfordshire offered me a lot of knowledge and practicals.

Admission Experience
- I chose the UK because I wanted a balance of peace and quiet and also a lively life when I wished for it. The UK also had a lot of top universities to offer and of course, it would also be perfectly within my budget.
- While the ranking may not look like much for the University of Hertfordshire, the academic reputation was quite pleasing. With professors offering keen insights on the subject, the course was a breeze.
- The professors were also very dedicated and lively while teaching; it did not feel as if they were just 'doing their job,' but rather they were 'doing their passion.'.
- The university offers a variety of courses, with its arts and animation one being the most famous. It also offers aerospace, which was a very popular course and structured amazingly, with lots of labs set up perfectly for the teaching. My course was mechanical engineering, which in itself had a lot of labs involved.
- From having labs for practicing mechanical concepts to 3D printers and laser machines to even labs set up for micro-engineering concepts. It was truly built well.
- The location was perfect for someone like me who likes a peaceful and quiet life, but also when I wanted to party or roam around, London was quite close by with just a 23-minute ride on the train. It was a small town but everything was available.
- The university regularly had career fairs both offline and online and also had a careers service that would help you with fixing your CV and cover letter and help.
- You prepare for an interview with tips and tricks. My overall experience would be amazing. I had the best 3 years of my life at this university, and I don't regret it one bit.
- The campus itself was amazing and bustling with life. The activities offered by the university itself would keep you busy for a majority of the time.
Class Schedule
- There were usually 10 classes per week, with two of them being practicals.
- The class timings could range from early morning, afternoon or late evening classes. It all depended on the time table team, but the classes were on a minimum 2 hours.
- The average strength of the class was around 20 students. In my course there were 5 Indians.
- The assignments given do take time if done carefully and if you want good marks. On average, a course requires 150 hours of self-study.
Faculty
- There was 1 teacher for 10 students, which was a good ratio.
- The faculty were extremely kind and would take time for any questions that students might have.
- The best faculties were of control systems and the reason I liked them was because they were very passionate about the subject which made me love control systems.
- If you ask the faculties for them, then they would certainly consider it, but please remember that they don't have to do it.
Campus Life
- There are two campuses of the University of Hertfordshire.
- The University of Hertfordshire has a library (LRC), sports complex, church, medical centre, student support hub, and nightclub.
- The campus had loads of activities and clubs. It has multiple societies that you can apply to. It has multiple sports events as well.
Part Time Jobs
- The average pay is the same as for all other students from other countries, which is GBP 9 per hour.
- There are a variety of jobs available, which can all be found in the town centre or in nearby towns.
- It is not that difficult to get jobs, as you just have to roam around town and go ask into stores if they have vacancies.
- There are limited slots available for student jobs at the university administration. The usual pay is 11 GBP per hour.
- These jobs offer fantastic opportunities to grow your connections as you connect with high-level employees of the university.
- Other jobs available on campus are at the food court, the grocery shop and the subway and Starbucks as well.
- The uni pub also has jobs. 20 hours per week.
Placement
- I can't answer much honestly here as I decided to move back to India but mostly 90 percent of students get placements after university. Average pay is GBP 29,000 per year.
- Students are typically advised to attend job fairs both online and offline along with applying on Gradcracker.
- Highest and lowest salaries cannot be declared as most students don't wish to discuss their salaries.
