Remarks
NIT Silchar is a college where there's unity among diversity. There's a cosmopolitan culture in the campus. People of different culture and background reside here and enjoy each other's company. And the best part is it's a secure campus for students. And no one has to fear about their choices as no one judges them based on their clothes.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is a bit outdated. It's way behind current industry standards. It needs an update to meet the industry and more interdisciplinary subjects should be introduced. For example, in Engineering Graphics and Drawing, students keep on drawing on drawing sheets rather than using any CAD software.
Placement Experience
The placement scenario is a bit of a mixed bag. The placements for B.Tech is very good but there's nothing extraordinary to write about M.Tech and MBA. Similarly, there's lack of core jobs for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical students. But, there are healthy opportunities in IT and analytics.
College Events
Tecnoesis- It's the annual techno-management fest of NIT Silchar and it's one of the most sought after fests of its kind in Northeast. It takes place in end of October. Incandescence- It's the annual cultural fest of NIT Silchar where there's a western touch alongwith Indian Culture. It occurs in mid February. Posua- It's the annual spring fest, where the Bihu culture of Assam is exhibited. It occurs in 1st week of April. Oikyotaan- It's the celebration of Bengali New Year's and a message of unity is conveyed through the event. It occurs in mid April.

For general category students having family income above 5LPA, Tuition fees: 71000 per semester, Hostel fees: 15500 per semester, For Non-hosteller, Tuition fees: 67870 per semester, It's on the expensive side considering it's a government funded institute.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are a few scholarships provided by the Central government or some State Governments. Most of them are for reserved category students or for students whose family income is less than 6LPA. There's a SBI Branch inside the campus. They provide education loan on spot during admission.
Campus Life
There are many extra-curricular activities and opportunities in sports. Everyday there's some event or other. Be it a literary event or some competitive sports. There are multiple indoor and outdoor Badminton courts, a Tennis court, multiple Table Tennis boards, facilities for Chess and Carrom, two separate stadiums for Soccer and Cricket, a Volleyball court, a common gym and an Indoor Stadium. As far as lab facilities, there are many advanced equipments, but not properly maintained. And many basic apparatus also don't work properly due to lack of maintenance.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is ever growing. The seniors constantly guide us regarding job and internship opportunities. They also help us to prepare for GDs and PIs. The alumni network also helps juniors to find accommodation when they go to metropolitan cities for internships and jobs.
Admission
To get admission in this coveted college, one has to get a good rank in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains. The exam takes place in April every year. It's for students who have completed 10+2 in science stream. The test is of 360 marks having 90 questions, 30 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. The questions are multiple choice, and a correct answer gives you a +4 and a wrong answer gives you -1. After the exam, results are published and every student gets a rank. A seat is alloted to a college as per the rank by Josaa.
Faculty
Like any other college, some faculties are extraordinary and some lack teaching skills. But, the diversity is huge. Although, in previous years, the research culture was not that great, but it's got better exponentially in the last couple of years and I hope it will continue with the advent of young and dynamic professors.
