IISER Mohali, BS + MS

Remarks

One of the top Institutes in India to pursue Science as a career. But don't take admission there if you don't want to pursue science as a career as they don't provide any applied courses which would help you to change streams later.

Placement Experience

3

The institute's central ideology is to guide the students towards having a future as a scientist; thus it does not allow companies to visit the campus for placements as of now. There have been some developments in bringing companies to the college for placements, but it may take some time. Also, there is a placement cell, but it is not effective. The students have a wide range of options for internships in India and abroad, mainly through summer internship programs like SRFP, DAAD, S.N. BOSE which are financially covered by these programs.

College Events

3.5

The institute has an annual fest which usually happens in March, and throughout the year there are always some cultural activities going on. There is also Inter IISER Sports Meet (IISM) held every year in December in which all the IISERs, IISc, and NISER participate.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee for studying in IISER Mohali has risen very steeply in the recent years but it is still feasible as compared to the other institutes in India. For BS-MS it costs around Rs. 40000 per semester for tuition fee and Rs. 15000 for Mess fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

The institute provides INSPIRE-Scholarship of around Rs. 60000 yearly to about 60-70% of students for which the DST has set the rules. Some of the students also get scholarship through KVPY which is slightly more than that provided by DST.

Campus Life

5

The Institute provides really good facilities for sports providing courts and equipment for all games. The institute can improve in the aspect of Wi-Fi as there are some hostel rooms where you don't get Wi-Fi, and there are some rooms where you get really good Wi-Fi. The institute provides medical facilities which are available at some fixed timings of the day but has an ambulance which is available 24/7 to go to the nearby hospitals.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The institute has an excellent infrastructure having a world-class library, labs, rooms, and classrooms. New batches usually get shared rooms but as they go into their majors they get a single room. Moreover, mess facility is available in each hostel and there are around 6 water coolers in each hostel.

Alumni/Alumna

The institute does not have good Alumini network. But senior students are really interactive and you couldn't even tell the difference between your batch mates and seniors. They are helpful and understanding.

Admission

I got selected in IISER Mohali through Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) which is a exam conducted yearly by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science. Other ways of getting admission in IISER Mohali are through JEE Advanced and IISER's own examination.

Faculty

4

All the faculty in this institute are highly educated and qualified people who are easy to get along with. They are always available to help the students with any problems the students might be having.

Placement Experience:

On a serious note, if you choose this course, you cannot expect employment opportunities after graduation. You have to do a master's and then you can think of a lectureship or a laboratory assistant. For higher studies, you can pursue a PhD and go in the research field. But the course is not as easy as it seems, the path is very struggling and often you face failure. After the recent NMC update, the non-medical teaching staffs are limited which makes the pursuing of this course very questionable. but there are alternative course and job opportunities after graduation in other life sciences subjects. Rest, the college doesn't provide any internship in this course. You are entirely on your own risk and decisions when you enrol for this course.

There is gender discrimination, restrictions based on gender and most important dressing of girls and thinking of management is narrow minded. Good thing is campus life is very good. Campus is fun based and great enjoyment and building is like a palace.
