Remarks
I chose this college over others because of the very basic Indian mentality,i.e, a GOVERNMENT college gains you more fame than a private college. While searching for top colleges for bachelors in anatomy, I came across this college review on collegeduniya.com and it helped me a lot to know in details about the College. Also because the admissions are late in August-September, so the students who are running late gets the advantage. Admissions are done on merit based on marks obtained in 10+2. As the name suggests, this is purely what government scenes are across India. You get the benefits of graduating from a government college only when you avail a job just after it. Among all the government colleges regulated under BFUHS (university), the faculty and administration at GMC, Patiala is best. After that comes GMC, Amritsar. In case, some students are confused during counselling, this can help you. The only bad aspect is the poor infrastructure and outdated technological administration.
Course Curriculum Overview
Basically, the course is B.Sc Medical APB (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry) and the duration is 3 years. So you study these three subjects all through three years alongside additional subjects; biostatistics in 1st year, computer applications in 2nd year and basic psychology in 3rd year. There is an annual pattern of examination. The questions set are easy unless and until you study sincerely all throughout the year or even a night before. Among all subjects, anatomy is the one to be more focused on. About the faculties, they are no doubt the best. Especially in Anatomy, teachers paid special attention to the individual student. The ratio is one teacher per 100 students. Most of the lectures you'll have to attend the First year MBBS students as their subjects are similar. Since this is a medical college with a primary focus over MBBS students so you can expect less focus over you. Definitely not only in bachelor's, but you'll also face this edge over in every phase of your career.
Placement Experience
On a serious note, if you choose this course, you cannot expect employment opportunities after graduation. You have to do a master's and then you can think of a lectureship or a laboratory assistant. For higher studies, you can pursue a PhD and go in the research field. But the course is not as easy as it seems, the path is very struggling and often you face failure. After the recent NMC update, the non-medical teaching staffs are limited which makes the pursuing of this course very questionable. but there are alternative course and job opportunities after graduation in other life sciences subjects. Rest, the college doesn't provide any internship in this course. You are entirely on your own risk and decisions when you enrol for this course.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees structure recently has been updated and hike which is very unlikely of a government institution. For this course, the fees are around 60,000 per annum. Before the 2020-2021 session, the fees was around 35,000 but now the fees have hiked drastically due to semi- privatisation of the institute. For the poor and the lower and reserved class, there is a provision of fees concession. Not only for these, but there are also many criteria for fees concession. Apart from this, there is no scholarship scheme provided by the institute.
Campus Life
There is one and only cultural 3-day Annual fest during March-April. This is called Aura. Many different cultural and social activities and competitions are held and the winner awarded the last day. The different activities start from the month before. Separate Annual sports meeting is also held annually around this time. This is the only time of the year when all the medicos take a break from the studies and enjoy the enthusiastic vibes. Students enjoy all kind of sports activities is it basketball or swimming. The campus infrastructure is old and overall still under renovation. Classes are aided with digital classroom facilities. Some labs are old but some newly built. The campus has its own library where students can get a membership easily. It has also a large reading room where most of the day you can see doctors studying. There is a small auditorium, a pool, large ground, basketball court, gym and hostels for boys and girls separately.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel scenes are what every government college offers. Separate single rooms are only provided to the MBBS students. Other than them, students are provided dorm, both in boys and girls hostel. You are allowed to redecorate your room to your choice. You are free to install AC and inverter but subject to its charge which you'll have to pay. Rest the charge of cooler and other electrical charges are free. there are frequent power cut-offs Common washrooms are there on each floor, and to be very honest, you can't expect them to be very tidy to the best of your interest. Every hostel has its own mess and canteen running where the food is not so great. They charge you around 40/ per meal and different charges for different items at the canteen which is relatively cheap than a mess. The food is not so good. The only advantage you get of choosing the hostel is that it is within the campus and easy for you to attain really early Morning class.
