Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, is an autonomous institution established by the Government of India. RGIPT has acknowledged the status of “An Institution of National Importance” under an Act of Parliament (“Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Act 2007”). The institution is co-promoted by ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL in association with the OIDB (Oil Industry Development Board). RGIPT ranked 79 Best Engineering Institute in the industry specific domain (Energy), Institute of national importance by NIRF Indian ranking 2023.
RGIPT has collaborations with National and International institutions and industries for workshops and training programs. The student exchange program is also a part of the collaborations with different academic institutes.
It offers a number of UG, PG, PG Diploma, and Doctoral programs with various specialization. RGIPT: Courses and Admissions
Given below are the academic programs offered by the Institute:
Course 1: B.Tech
The institution offers B.Tech under specializations i.e. Chemical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Computer Science & Design Engg., Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Geo-Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Artificial Intelligence
Duration: 4-year | Full-time
Seat Intake: 60 in each specialization
Eligibility: Intermediate graduate with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Final selection will be based on the score in JEE (Advanced) obtained by the candidate.
Application Fee: INR 600 for Female and SC/ST Candidates and INR 1200 for all other candidates.
Course 2: M.Tech
RGIPT offers the M.Tech program in two disciplines i.e. Petroleum and Chemical Engineering.
Duration: 2-year | Full-time
Seat Intake: 30 in each discipline
Eligibility for Regular Category: B.Tech/B.E. degree in relevant discipline with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST). The student must also have a valid score of GATE.
Admission in Sponsorship Category: This category will only have to qualify in a subject-wise written test/interview. GATE score is not required, however, the candidates falling in this category will not be eligible for financial help provided by the Institute. The candidate should have worked for a sponsoring organization for at least two years and need to submit a No Objection Certificate, leave approval for one year.
Application Fee: INR 400 for General and OBC and INR 200 for SC/ST/PwD and Female.
Selection Procedure: Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of merit scored in the qualifying exam. They will be further required to appear for a written test and personal interview. Final selection will be made on the performance in both these stages, GATE score, and previous academic performance.
Note: Financial assistance of INR 12,400 will be given per month to the GATE qualified students.
Course 3: MBA
The Department of Management studies offers an MBA program to students in the various areas of specialization viz. Energy Management; Financial Management, Marketing Management; and Human Resources Management.
Duration: 2-year | Full-time
Eligibility:
- The candidate must have scored minimum 50% marks in 10th and 12th from a recognized board.
- Bachelor’s degree with 50% marks from UGC/AICTE recognized university.
- Final selection will be based on the GMAT/XAT/CAT/CMAT Score of the candidate.
- Candidates fulfilling the above eligibility criteria with a valid score in CAT/XAT/CMAT are eligible to apply.
Application Fee: INR 400 for General and INR 200 for SC/ST candidates.
Selection Procedure: Candidates will be short-listed on the basis of the following criteria:
- CAT/XMAT/CMAT/GMAT score – 50%
- Academic performance – 20%
- Work Experience – 5%
The short-listed students will be called for a written ability test (WAT) and Personal Interview. The final selection will be based on the total score obtained by the candidate. Separate merit list will be prepared for the candidates belonging to the General Category, Scheduled Caste Category, Scheduled Tribes Category, OBC Category, and Physically Handicapped Category.
Course 4: Ph.D.
RGIPT offers Ph.D. programs in various fields of Engineering, Science & Social Sciences and Management.
Eligibility: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and a qualified score of GATE/NET exam. Final selection will be based on the score of GATE/CSIR/UGC/NBHM/DBT/GPAT/ Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship/ Maulana Azad National Fellowship/or any similar fellowship.
Selection Procedure: Short-listed candidates will be required to give a written test followed by presentation/viva-voce conducted at the Institute. Final merit list is based on GATE score, marks obtained in written test, previous qualifying examination
Note: The candidate will be entitled to the scholarship on the basis of marks obtained in the Master’s degree (M.Phil/M.Sc/M.A) and any national level test UGC/CSIR/NBHM.

Ans. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology offers B.Tech/IDD Internship Embedded Program to the students to gain industrial experience. It is a 16 weeks long program which helps the students to familiarize the manufacturing and process associated in the industry.
Ques. Is there any scholarship schemes for the students at RGIPT?
Ans. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology offers Merit cum Means Scholarship to the selective number of non-SC/ST students. The scholarship amount is equivalent to 25% of the tuition fee, effective from the semester 1 itself.
