What Students Say
Likes
- the infrastructure is good especially compared to most other govt colleges
- the seniors are nice and helpful, almost everyone has been very approachable
- we can join new societies in our second and third years as well, so there isn’t a pressure to final them in our first year
Dislikes
- The processors i have seem more unqualified than not, lack empathy for our issues and force absurd deadlines and tasks onto us
- the schedules are very disjointed, making us run from one building to another for back to back classes, with neither of the professors showing understanding about the hectic travel times and the fact that we’re need to run on the staircases
- it is an all girls college which has made the college experience significantly less exciting and very restrictive
Course Curriculum Overview
for the first semester the course curriculum has basically been a revision of highschool with some additional information, however from what we have been told by our seniors we do get better more detailed concepts later on. the areas that require improvement are firstly the professors, we need better qmgenuinely knowledgeable people to depend on, and the curriculum to be more modernised and include vocationalisation.
Fees and Financial Aid
Im paying inr 27180 per annum for this course which while a lot cheaper as compared to private colleges is still insanely expensive for a government college like JMC as in delhi university the salary usually ranges from 10000 to 15000 inr per annum. the scholarship opportunities are barely any and most have a family income cap so it is not available to me, there are barely any completely merit based ones
Campus Life
until now i have been a part of 2 events-- the freshers and the diwali fair. both felt incredibly lackluster to me and not at all worth the 500 inr department fee that had been taken from us. additionally the classes continued as normal on both days which was reall inconsiderate on the university's part. the library is very old fashioned and has a limited range of books, the pyqs are all in multiple books in a corner and have no digital record so we need to flip through multiple books and pick and choose our own papers which was very tedious. the classrooms are very primitive, we dont have ACs or smartboards or even projectors, most rooms only have a greenboard so for presentations we had to bring our own laptops, also there is no wifi provided im not in the sports but im a part of 5 college societies rn, they are not very well managed or funded by the college, trying to be active in them comes at the cost of my education and attendance, and the exposure that i had been promised is lacking
Admission
I had applied to Christ University Delhi ncr, Narsee Monjee Mumbai, IIM Indore, and Symbiosis School of Economics in Pune. I got into all of them except iim in the first merit list however chose to not take them for multiple reasons including location, fees, living situation, curriculum, exposure and brand value of the college maibly the expenses, these were all private colleges and would have required almost 50 lakhs over the course of the degree including tution hostel travel food etc
Faculty
the faculty are not at all sympathetic towards our concerns and issues making it very difficult to have effective conversations, alot of them are very unqualified and the only reason we have to attend their classes are for attendance because they don't actually know how to teach. Dr. Divya Aggarwal who is our EVS teacher has been making us sign up to random projects as volunteers by blackmailing ys with CA marks and giving absurd deadlines like uploading 500 pictures of trees per person. one faculty whom i like is Divya Devassy, she is our economics minor teacher and perhaps the only actually qualified professor i have. the curriculum is very stupid, we have to study things in economics that we've already done in grade 11, and spend more time on subjects like ethics and culture, EVS, and hindi than our core disciplines
Night Life
there is virtually no places to hangout near the college within walking distance except satyaniketan which is not very fun. within the college most people can be found in the gardens during free time or on the steps in front of thevenet hall. most people are pretty beat after having been in college from 8am to 4pm and so generally rush to get home/hostel immediately altho those who want to roam around can be seen taking the metro to sarojini/lajpat/Cp etc it is delhi so safety is well ???????
