Course Curriculum Overview
As I am pursuing Sociology Honours, it requires you to do research work. It does prepare yor for the real world. As it teaches you about your own society, you can learn a lot and can apply your studies into practice also. You become a better citizen also just by studying your own society. The course is not very tough. It deals with rea life so you can connect it with you and your life very much and this makes it very easy to grasp. As I want to pursue law, that's why I chose Sociology to learn more about our society to work for it better. Few topics are included in the curriculum which are not as important as those which are not included. So my only suggestion would be to make it more inclusive and covering more important aspects of society. The exams are not much difficult. If you have studied and understood the concepts well you can ace the exam easily. The exams are for 3 hours. You get 7 questions out of which you need to complete 4 questions. Each answer should be atleast 4 skdes of pages long. Each answer should have an introduction, body and conclusion. If the answer is well written and includes all important topics then getting good marks is no difficulty at all.
Internships Opportunities
The Placement Cell of our college helps out in giving internship details to students. Whoever is interested in those internships can apply in it. Companies like Clapingo, tripple one solutions etc. have gave internship opportunities for marketing, teaching, HR etc. Some of them are paid or unpaid. Some of the internships ask for assignments to be completed before starting the internship while some take people based on their CGPA.
Placement Experience
To get placement one need to be in their final year. Last year companies like Delloite, Accenture, etc. came for the interviews. Around 15 people got placement in companies last year. Highest package offered was around 23LPA and the average package was around 6LPA. The profiles that they offered was for accountants, career analyst, HR etc. People who got placement had decent percentages. They were higjly active in department and college activities and have done good internships too. After completing this degree I would want to get into Law.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees structure varies from course to course. For my course, the fees for a year is 25,775. Last year it was 21,990. The fees doesn't increase every year but it did this time only. The fees includes tution fee, lab fee, development fee and other compulsory charges for completion of course. The fees doesn't include the examination fee. It needs to be paid seperately in the examination form. The examination fee differs based on the papers. If it's practical then the fees can be a bit high. Before covid, the fees for SC AND ST was zero. In contrast OBC and minority category students paid between 12,000-18,000 depending on the course.
Campus Life
Being at JMC is a full time experience. You get to meet people from various backgrounds with diverse life experience. Youll be sitting alone and then someone might come and be your friend in a minute. You'll never get bored at JMC. JMC conducts some or the other event every other day. As soon as you enter the college you'll have freshers. Then you'll have navratri party and dandiya night. JMC holds a Diwali Mela too. Its filled with amazing stalls. Dance and singing societies give awesome performances. In winters, we get winter chimes which celebrates christmas and as JMC is a Christian college, its a big event too.
Admission
To get into JMC, one needs to give CUET. After completing the exam, you need to make the preference sheet and if JMC is your 1st preference, then keep it at 1st. Cutoffs varies from course to course. If you have also applied for quotas, or have submitted other categories certificate then cutoffs for you could be less. After getting admission into it, you need to get your documents verified both online and offline and once the fees is paid you are a part of JMC.
Faculty
The faculty of this college is very qualified. All of them have studied from well known university. Most of them have completed their Phd. Almost all the teachers are very freindly and approachable. They would try to help you out in every way possible. With time they become just like a freind for us. Every semester every student gets max 7 teachers including faculty for Core papers, GE, SEC, VAC and AEC. If you try to be active in class, you can get more attention from then faculties. Some of the most wonderful faculty members that I have studied from are Amrita Sastry (Sociology), Mahima Verma (Sociology), Nivedita Ghosh (Sociology), Aishwarya Bajaj (Psychology) and Dias Mario Antony (History). All of them teach so effortlessly. They also care a lot about the students.
Night Life
Our college's timing is grom 8:30 to 4:00. Canteen opens by 9:30 and closes by 4:00. College is lively till 5pm. After that people start heading to their homes or to hangout with their friends. Our college is located at a very great location. The nearest food joints that we have is in Satya Niketan. We have ITC Maurya near our college too. If someone wants to go and have cheaper food and want to do shopping, one can go to sarojini nagar or CP. Its very close to our college. Netaji subhash palace is also very close to our college. One can go to the pacific mall there too. Delhi Haat INA is a good choice too. Our college doesn't have hostels. People can take PGs in satya and anand niketan. Satya Niketan is not safe at night. If one wants to enjoy night life they should go to CP.
