Remarks
The main reason for me joining JMC was that my sister also was admitted into this college and honestly I did not know many colleges apart from St. Stephens or JMC, into which I really wanted to get through. For all colleges under DU you need to fill a common DU admission form but only for St. Stephens and JMC we need to fill an additional admission form which is available on their college websites. By June 10th-12th these forms close.
Course Curriculum Overview
I did not get the course I wanted. I received B. A. Programme (Eco-Maths) which was not in my initial 3 preferences. I wanted Mathematics Hons. which I clearly did not get because of low percentage in mathematics of class 12. JMC is an all girls college with excellent teaching staff who are really concerned about the students and their future, they go an extra mile providing students with the best notes, extra classes, etc. However, if the students are not regular (which is a huge concern for the faculty) the teachers do not really like it and some of them may be irritated with you for the entire session which is something we would also not like. So the best a student can do is, utilise the hard earned money paid as fees to the fullest by attending all the classes and gaining the most out of the teachers which is most appreciated, also you get good grades ;)
Internships Opportunities
Yes I applied for many internships which I received from my college, i got through a few of them and joined the ones which beat suited my interests and fields in which I wanted to gain some knowledge. I had opted for the position of an international student councillor in International Education Boutique of which I received a stipend of Rs. 4000 for a month.
Placement Experience
From semester 3 students become eligible for placements however students of sem 5 and sem 6 are preferred. In JMC we have a placement cell who help students receive various opportunities depending upon their choiceof course. After receiving my degree I planto further study, my masters.
College Events
Life at campus is really good, one can strike a good balance between academics and social life. Fests are always in and around JMC, it is really interesting to go to college everyday and find new exciting events happening. The main college fest is called Montage which happens mid of february. There are many societies and clubs which are run by students to provide a growth in various student interests like singing (western/indian), dance (western/indian), dramatics, puzzle, poetry, education programs, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
I do not know much about scholarships but many north east students join us through scholarships of 100% by studying really well and applying for the same.
Campus Life
The infrastructure of JMC is really good. In total we have 3 blocks with ample classrooms. Just a few floors are there where the classrooms are really small. We have a huge play ground and a garder with open gym area. Also, a proper gym with trainer is provided for which we need to pay a separate membership fee. The canteen is above average. A huge library with 3 floors which technically has all the study material and various sections of literature, a stationery shop and also a photocopy shop is present on campus. The only drawback which i personally feel is that the washrooms need a little more sanitation, by mid-day a few floors washrooms are not usable at all, also none of the washrooms have mirrors except one washroom in the common room where most of the students chill. JMC is a commerce and arts college because of which we do not have any science lab butwe do have a computer lab, sports room, and a few subjects labs.
Hostel Facilities
I live with my parents so I do not know much about hostels. There are a few friends from whom I have received a little information. It totally depends form place to place, somemay have a clean surrounding but most of them are in packed lanes, the food and accommodation is looked after by the hostel staff, good quality food is served with good supply of wifi etc.
