Course Curriculum Overview

3

I got interest in chemistry since my 12th class. I decided to study Chemistry Hons from Hindu College ( Best college for science in India as per NIRF Rankings) For masters, I chose IIT Delhi, which is again second best institute in the country. Questions in exams in IIT are relatively tough than your expectations. However, questions will come only from the topics taught by the professors in the class. Some teachers use both chalk and ppt method , while some use only chalk which is good. While some use only ppt which can be improved

Internships Opportunities

2

I did not join the internship during my course. However, many of my batchmates joined the same during summer vacations. You have to create your CV on the OCS portal of the IIT Delhi and apply for the internships there.

Placement Experience

1

For my course i.e Msc Chemistry, placements are not that much good. Mostly Edtech companies like Allen, FIITJEE, PW, etc come for the placements. Some years, good number of companies come, while some years only a few comes. Average package is 6-8 LPA

Fees and Financial Aid

The course fees is approximately 50000 per year. For the first semester, the fees is relatively higher than the other semesters as it includes security amount as well. The security so paid will be refunded after the completion of the course. Hostel fees and mess fees is paid separately. SC/ST students pay little bit lesser course fees. I got scholarship also which was 1000/- per month for two years. Students who score minimum of 8 CGPA and whose income is lesser than 5 lakhs can apply for this scholarship.

Campus Life

5

There are many socities to join in the college. You can stand in the departmental elections also. I won the departmental CAIC elections and became the Convenor of Msc Chemistry. Library is wonderful in IIT Delhi. Many books are there. Sports activities are also there. You can join swimming classes as well. You can become the member of the departmental society also.

Hostel Facilities

4

You can opt for the hostel during admission procedure only. The hostel mess is so good. The food quality is so good. On special ocassions, special meals are served. I got single occupancy room for both years. My hostel was Kumaon. If you want to stay in PG/flat, you can rent the same in nearby locality like Jia Sarai, Katwaria Sarai, Ber Sarai, etc

Admission

IIT Delhi is second best institute in the country after IISc Bangalore. I got selected for IIT Bombay also, but I chose IIT Delhi because it was near to my hometown (UP) . I didn't go for IISc because of higher fees in that institute. IIT-JAM exam has to be qualified to get admission for masters in IITs.

Faculty

3

Faculty is good. Some are just average and boring to be honest. While some professors are extremely incredible. I would like to mention Prof. Anil J. Elias, he is a wonderful teacher of Inorganic chemistry. His book is so good. There are four semesters in this course. Each semester has minor exams and major exams. Questions in exam are quite difficult.

Night Life

5

IIT Delhi's campus life and Hostel Life is what I miss the most today. You will realise thisore once you leave that place. IIT Delhi has my heart really. During my time, many DJ nights use to happen in the college and in the hostels. There is no restriction of timings in the hostel. There are many hangout places in the campus itself.

The students become eligible for placements in the last semester. Primal Group, Allen Career Institute, Akash Institute, etc a lot of companies came for placement. This is a time of recession. So, very few students get placements. My plan is to join the coaching industry as a teacher after my degree.

Placement Experience:

From final year onwards students become eligible for placements. There are lot of companies like Accenture, flipkart, Amazon, HSBC, etc which offer 5-10 students. The highest package was 50lakhs -1Cr and average is 9- 15 LPA. Usually much students get placed from our college. But this year the percentage is very low could be due the firing of freshers and fear of corporate companies to hire freshers. I Will go for the placements which is still going ( second season ).
