- My favorite thing about my college would be the library. The central library that we have on campus has a large variety of books on a lot of different topics. There are lots of books on engineering, statistics, even literary books
- The college canteen is another factor that I like about my college. We have a central canteen which is like the main canteen and we have other 2 canteens as well. The canteen serves amazing meals and the food is quite affordable.
- The labs are incredible. They are well equipped. We have labs for ECE, EE, CSE, Physics, Chemistry, OT, software engineering. The lab assistants too are very helpful and possess vast knowledge on the subjects.
Dislikes
- The washrooms definitely have to be more hygienic and sanitary. That's something that the college must improve on.
- A few of the lab equipments although are available but have been lying idle for a while and could benifit from maintenance or upgrading.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is vast with a wide range of topics. We are handed out the course curriculum in the very beginning of the semester so that students can go through it. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics which provide a detailed understanding of the subject. The curriculum enables the students to gain a thorough grasp of key concepts which are academically beneficial and also crucial for on campus placements. Overall the curriculum is well structured, relevant and builds an excellent foundation for students. The only disadvantage is the stipulated time frame that we get to complete the syllabus before exams. We get roughly 3 months to finish the syllabus when in actuality the course curriculum atleast needs a 6 month duration for students to get thorough with it .
Internships Opportunities
I'm not particularly aware of the specifics of internship offered via college however I have seen several of my peers and seniors apply for internships on their own. These opportunities come with stipend providing valuable hands on experience and financial support. I have seen a lot of my peers apply for internships whilst being in 1st and 2nd year. One such particular senior in her 3rd year was an intern in Amazon. She later on got referred and then ended up getting a 51 lpa offer from Amazon. Hence students themselves should too be proactive when it comes to seeking internship opportunities Several seniors in their 4th year work on projects with the professors who provide guidance and support.
Placement Experience
Siliguri institute of technology has a history of succession placements. The average package is around 4-5LPA per annum and the highest is 27 LPA per annum. As of 2024 several renowned companies like TCS, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, Amazon, Virtusa, EY have visited the campus for placements. The no. of students who have been placed are around 220+. The placement is available from 4th year onwards. Students juggle between placement preparation and academics.

Campus Life
I'm enjoying my campus life overall. The infrastructure is well maintained. There's a main building which is has departments like CSE, EE, ECE, CIVIL, CSE AIML, IT. We have a separate building for 1st year btech students where the students pursue their 1st and 2nd sem. There's also a nursing and hospitality building the bba, nursing students.. Then we have the department of hotel management. There's also diploma students. Speaking of labs we have labs in the main building. Computer labs, computer organisation, architecture and analog and digital labs. The BBA building also has several computer labs which are spacious and well maintained. When it comes to clubs we have several innovative clubs where students participate for their extra curriculars We have SIT photography club, SIT tech frenzy club, etc. I have also talked about the lush greenery and serene ambience of the college . The seniors are also approachable and are always helpful whenever you need help. The college makes efforts to foster a sense of community and camaraderie among students which is evident in numerous events and activities. Our college also hosts an annual tech fest and a college fest. The technical fest is amazing to watch creative minds coming together to build innovative solutions. For the annual fests as well we have amazing artists perform on stage. It's a 2 day event. On day 1 students from all departments participate showcasing their dance, singing , cosplay skills. On day 2 we have artists perform. The last annual fest we had Ash King grace the event.
Admission
I chose Siliguri Institute of technology for several reasons. Firstly being located in my hometown made it an ideal choice allowing me to stay closer to my family and friends while pursuing my degree. The college has beautiful surroundings. There's beautiful tea garden surrounding the college. The lush greenery makes it a serene and beautiful atmosphere, beneficial for learning and growth. The affordable fee structure that made quality education accessible without putting a strain on my family's finances. Overall the college is perfect blend of location, ambience, and affordability. For admission, I have already mentioned previously that the amount is 85000. The includes the uniform fees, the book fees, and the 1st semester fees.
Faculty
I'm currently in my 3rd year and so far all the professors that have taught me have been incredible. Most of the faculty members hold Phd's in the respective subjects that they teach. Classes are held on a regular basis. The professors are approachable and are willing to clear doubts whenever students encounter any. They take time to explain complex topics in a clear and concise manner. All the professors have Google classrooms for their respective subjects where we get assignment, notes, important questions for exams and even practice questions. Speaking of the exams we have internals and semester exams every semester. We have 4 internals: CA1 (presentation submission), Ca2( report writing on topic of choice ), Ca3 is a written examination where questions are set by the college faculty and Ca4 is an online exam where questions are set by Makaut university, the university that SIT is affiliated to. For semester exams the paper has a full marks of 70 out of which students need to score 27 atleast to pass. The rest of the marks comes from the internal in which the student has scored the best out of 25 and the remaining 5 marks comes from attendance. The semester exams have a fee of 1200 rs for the regular exams and 1000rs for backlog exams. Additionally there has been a change in the way the semester exam paper is set. The questions are more conceptualized hence students have to be thorough with their concepts to be able to score well. There are 3 sections in the question paper. Group A consists of "very"short answer questions of 1 mark each. One needs to answer any 10 questions. Group B consists of short answer questions where students have to answer any 3 and Group C has long answer questions where 1 question has 3 sub questions in it and the total mark is 15. Students have to answer any 3 in group C section so 15×3 = 45 marks is dedicated for group C. As mentioned earlier itrs easy to score if students have their concepts cleared.
Night Life
Our college starts at 10 am and goes upto 5 pm. The routine includes both theory classes and labs. Lectures last a duration of 50 minutes and labs have a 3 hour duration. Our college does not provide hostel facilities but we have several PGs around the campus which are affordable and suitable for students. There are a huge number of eating places around college. Besides the college canteen there are quite a lot of eating outlets, food stalls nearby the college. Students can grab a snack or two or a beverage after a long tiring day in college. Our campus has gym room and a common room. The gym has equipments which students can use and the common room has games like table tennis, carrom for indoor games. We have a badminton court and basketball court on campus. Students can access them to unwind and stay active. The gym room has basketballs and other games equipments which student can access via their library cards.
