Course Curriculum Overview

5

During my undergraduate studies I studied a lot about Molecular Biology and RDT that forced me to choose this course. I am really feel comfortable to study this subject. Another reason to choose this subject is for the opportunity in Industry for Biotechnology graduate.

Internships Opportunities

4

I am from Biotechnology department. So I don't know much about internship opportunities there. But it might have excellent internship opportunities in the Faculty of Engineering. If I talk about my subject, our department send students to various national institute like IITs and IISERs for the internship and some portion of the students do internship in our department and Neighbouring National Institute like CSIR-IICB, Bose Institute, IACS etc. Few students from different universities and colleges come to our department to do internship under our professor and research scholars.

Placement Experience

4.5

One of the main reason to choose this University was it's placement record. It's Engeneering Departments has almost above 90% placement rates with highest package of above 1cr and average package of 10-15 lakh. Higest package are mostly from CSE, Electrical and Chemical Engineering department. Reputed multinational company like Google and Amazon visit here for placement. Students are eligible for the placement from their final semester. Although it has good placement cell but I will go for reasearch in future.

Fees and Financial Aid

The annual fees for the entire session amount to 2160 Rupees, which is paid at the time of admission. This fee covers all expenses, including tuition fees, caution deposit, registration fees, admission fees, development fees, and lab fees. There are fee waiver facilities available for financially disadvantaged students, with options for either a full or partial waiver of tuition fees. Various state and central government scholarships, as well as private scholarships, are available. Some state government scholarships include SVMCM, Aikyashree for minority students, K3 for female students, and Oasis for OBC students. Central government scholarships like DST Inspire and NSP are also offered. In addition to these, the institute provides stipends and fellowships to deserving students in need. The university also offers financial aid to extremely needy students, which is mainly managed by the Students' Union.

Campus Life

5

I am satisfied with all the facilities provided by the University. It has strong community of students. Students has unity. So many clubs and Societies are there like Music Club, Chess Club, Theatre And Flim Society, Meme Cell and eSports etc. There are many annual fests organised by the student union of different faculties like Sanskriti by Arts and Science faculty Students union, Srijanee by Engeneering faculty student union. They are mostly held in march- may. Jadavpur University has a huge Central library and every department/ schools has it's own departmental library with a lot of books and resources. Different magazines are published by students communities in different occasions. Jadavpur University is best when it's comes to extracurricular like Music, Acting and sports

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are total 13 hostel. 9 of them are for the male students and 4 are for women student. Most of the hostel is in the campus but few like Main Hostel is outside the campus situated within 5 minutes walk away. The fees is very minimal. Approximately 300-400 rupees per annum including room rent, maintenance and electricity and all. Mess is there and the prices depends on specific mess but approximately 2000 per month. The food is satisfactory. JU hostel had ragging culture that harrased so many students in the past but after the incident of last year's tragic death the ragging culture is now somewhat bearable I mean almost 0.

Admission

I had applied to so many National Institutes and Universities by CUET and IIT JAM, GAT-B but got rejected by most of them. I got some Central Universities but that was not upto the mark and I wasn't ready to study outside my state to study in a tier 2 University. So I thought to give year gap but Ultimately I decided to apply to some State University like Presidency University and Jadavpur University. I first got selected for Presidency University and Then I got selected at Jadavpur University. JU is most reputed University in my state and once it was my dream to study there. After getting opportunity to study there I have decided I shouldn't give a year gap but will continue to study at this University with Biotechnology Course. The reason to choose this college was for it's strong academic reputation, faculty strength and affordability. The process of getting admitted in JU is very simple. You just have to appear for its Master's Entrance Examination conducted by JU. Above 50 needed

Faculty

4.5

The faculty to students ratio of my department is approximately 1:4 respectively. Seven experienced professors are there. All of them are very much student friendly and very much sincere for the students. They take classes regularly with daily assessment and other academic activities. Our HoD sir is one of most prominent RNA researcher of India. He is so much experienced and it's a privilege to me to be a student of him. Also we have R.G sir he is also very much experienced in his field. He is a fun loving processor. We all love to attend his classes. There are 4 core theory papers and 2 practical papers in first semester. Each theory paper will have end sem exam of 40 marks and 10 marks including internal assessment and rest will be filled up by practical paper marks.

Placement Experience:

Actually this is a general degree University , so I must mention that placement facalities are not so good. But yes , Job Fair is organised in University by some external agencies which offer jobs varying 2-2.5 lakhs per annum . But in the university most of the students do not accept that jobs. Half of the students are more interested on the higher studies. So ahet completing the fourth semester they prepare for PhD. And the another half are preparing for central government sponsored exams like CGL, CHSL, RRB, SBI , IBPS, LIC etc. University has a significant number of students who have qualified for Government Competitive exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

Last year, two of our seniors got placed at Reborn Child Development Centre (Durgapur and Asansol) with an average package of Rs 200,000. This year, three students of our batch, including me, got an internship for three months at Reborn through an in-person interview.

Biotechnology is a highly demanding course in today's world. The syllabus for this course is mostly around bookish knowledge and you have to gather outside knowledge on your own.
