Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course suited the needs of the students very well. The curriculum was comprehensive covering different areas of history in different years. Also the syllabus was updated every 2-3 years to incorporate the latest research and readings on topics. The reading material was well crafted to enable us to carry on detailed research for assignments and self study.

Internships Opportunities

3

Personally speaking I did not intern during my time at the college due to UPSC preparation but many of my classmates did. Some who wanted to pursue further education went to intern under publication houses, lawyers, or assisting professors etc.

Placement Experience

3.5

There are abundant opportunities for placements and internships throughout college depending on the course. High end MNCs and reputed organizations regularly visit our college for placement drives. For instance one of my batch mates got a placement offer to work for PwD right after graduation and another one got rhodes scholarship for pursuing further education in UK.

Fees and Financial Aid

During my tenure as a student of St. Stephens College, the semester fees were structured as follows: Around Rs. 42,000 for the first year including tuition fee, garden maintenance fee, registration fee and other compulsory charges. The Second and Third year each semester cost a minimum of around Rs 18,000 which was variable depending on whether we had purchased anything extra like college merchandise or yearbook calender the cost of which gets added in the semester fee. SC/ST/OBC students had the same fee structure as general category students. Those enrolled in science courses had to pay slightly higher than usual fees cause of expenses like Laboratory maintenance. Stephens offered various scholarship throughout the calender year as mentioned on its official website under the Scholarship Notifications page. Ex: Pandit Hazari Lal Prize and Neerja Malhotra Memorial Scholarship.

Campus Life

4.5

The societies are highly active and operational with activities and events planned every other week. For instance there is Civil Service Forum for preparing strategy as to how to tackle the UPSC exam, Finance and Investment Cell for those who want to make a career in this sector and even cultural socities like Japanese society where we were taught about Japanese culture and got a taste of some exclusive Japanese cuisine. The fest is an intra college fest held every February or March where outsiders are not allowed. The classrooms are loaded with projectors, LED remotes and all the latest technology for more immersive educational experience.

Admission

For eligibility into our course, a high class 12th aggregate percentage was needed. The cutoff went to 96.5% for our batch. The application form can be found on the DU UG applications website. In our time we just had to clear the cut-off and then were shortlisted directly for a personal interview which tested our knowledge of the course we had opted for. There was no CUET back in 2018. The exams were held at the end of each semester and were challenging to pass unless one studied extremely well. The admission process was kind of long and involved going to college on numerous days just to submit the required documents and get the admission done.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty-to-student ratio in our course (History) was 1 teacher for every 60 students. If it was an optional subject then 1 teacher for 25-30 students. The classes were of reasonable strength but always interactive depending on the specific teacher's methodology. Students always got an opportunity to discuss doubts in tutorials after doing in-depth reading assigned to us each week in small groups of 4-5 students. The faculty was top notch having degrees from S-tier universities across the world and numerous publications under their belt.

Interview Experience

5

Yes, after clearing the cut-off I received a call letter for an aptitude test and interview at St. Stephens College. I reported on time and was made to sit in a hall of waiting students. Then the teacher called all of us inside and handed each of us a question paper with some general reading and writing comprehension questions. This was the aptitude test that lasted for 1 hour after which we went for the personal interview individually where we were grilled about History, our hobbies, experiences etc. After about a week the result was declared where I saw my name along with the last date for making fee payment for admission.

The course was relevant; however, you need to carry all the current affairs to actually make the best of it, otherwise, it is just theory. Every subject taught you to think and connect because most are just theory.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum was verey much Comprehensive. I wanted to accomplish this course at any cost because of my excellent flair in this language adding to my Interest. It actually broadened by Mental Horizon and shaped my thinking perception. It also helped me in my Academic pursuits not only for me but also for my kids as well. It also helped me in widening my own Knowledge and buit my awareness regarding many issues we face in our daily lives. As such there are no serious concerns for improvrment. The difficulty level of Examinations is immensely higher than other courses and it braeks student's confidence too. The level has to brought down else it won't be a Piece of cake for average students anymore !

Placement Experience:

I'm a freshmen so I'm not really sure about placements and how it works. And as far as I can remember, the placements take place mostly for the students of commerce background. I don't think there's no such internship provided for non commerce students. I have very little idea about placements as I've mentioned before but some companies do provide placements like zomat, zudio, stanza living etc. The college placement cell is quite active and my friends try to always take part in it.

CPC brings internship opportunities for students from their second year, and by third year (Vth Semester) the students become eligible for placements. Students from Economics, Maths and Bsc Programme get the highest number of placements every year. Students from arts course also get, but majority of people turn to other careers.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very well defined and comprehensive. The St. Stephen's College is ranked by NIRF as one of the top colleges in India for B.Sc and B.A Hons. in various subjects. The course curriculum changes every few years so that the students are getting the latest knowledge. Exams are held time-to-time in every semester and the difficulty level of exams is not very hard, it's moderate. One thing I do not like is that even after paying such high fees for tuition, we also have to pay 2500-3000rs per exam as exam fees.
