Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The faculty and results were the reasons for making the course appear attractive to me. Many students here lands up at IITs and ISI after clearing their respective exams like IIT Jam and M.Stat. The faculty here is great and have deep knowledge and understanding in their subjects however you might face difficulty in coping up at few moments if you are a non-bengali. Also, some teachers have a high pace of teaching so you might find it difficult to catch things in an instance. Also, some handful of teachers who teach us minor subjects use Bengali throughout. There are practical, mid-semester, and semester exams which take place every semester which is of around 6 months.

Fees and Financial Aid

The semester fees varies for different semesters and for different courses. You do not get any scholarship opportunities from the college itself however you can apply for Inspire scholarship if you scored good in 12th Board examination. Campus provide numerous opportunities for placements.

Campus Life

2.5

The campus life here is amazing even after the harsh summers. You might face difficulty in some areas where there is no air conditioning. The library here is the best place to study which is fully air conditioned. Some classes don't have ACs installed. The canteen is a good place to hangout with friends and peers. The campus is however not much comodious as it has it's school affiliated with the college building. Students have to share a common field. Also, there is no badminton court availabe in college. There is a sport complex present for students for sport items like football.

Admission

As far as I could remember, I filled the application form around May 2023. I applied for two courses, namely B.Sc Mathematics (Hons) and B.Sc Statistics (Hons). The application form was available on official website of St.Xavier's College, Kolkata. The form was very basic and each application charged me Rs 500. The merit list was prepared on the basis of our class 12th board examination percentage. The cutoff varied for different courses and different boards. There was quota for Christian minority students and who belonged to backward classes. The merit for Mathematics was prepared by 2xMathematics% + Aggregate% (out of 300). The cutoff for the first list of Mathematics was as follows- ISC-290 / CBSE-286 / WBHS-290 / OTHER BOARDS-286 The merit for Statistics was prepared by Aggregate%+ Maximum of Maths% or Stats%(out of 200). The cutoff for last list of Stats was- ISC-194 / CBSE-191 / WBHS-194 / OTHER BOARDS-193 I made it in the last merit list of Statistics.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum was well-structured, and each semester, there were projects and presentations that also helped to test our knowledge. I got influenced as the curriculum provides us with financial economics, political economics, and Applied mathematics. The level of the exams was decent, related to the course. They could improve in teaching more practical knowledge and projects related to that, instead of only learning in a theoretical way.

Placement Experience:

Placements and job oppurtinities are less since this is an undergraduate college offwering honours degree. Though there is a placement and career councelling cell that looks over this matter. Placements are offered only in a few subjects, such as industrial chemisrty and computer science. The rate of placements are very high and come with high packages. Though I am not interested in placements, but I have started taking preparations for compititive exams. Such preparations are very supported here, rather than jobs and placements.
