NIT Jamshedpur diaries

The courses provided in national institute of Technology Jamshedpur has lots of good courses. But as a first year the courses provided seems useless. But 2nd year onwards it's solely focuses on our chosen branch and the professors teaching these courses are nationally or internationally renowned.

The Training & Placement Cell, NIT Jamshedpur, facilitates the process of placement of students passing out from the institute, besides collaborating with leading organizations and institutes in setting up internship and training programs for students. The office liaises with various industrial establishments, corporate houses, etc, which conduct campus interviews and select Graduate, Post-Graduate and PhD students from all disciplines. The Training & Placement Cell provides the infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests, and interviews, besides catering to other logistics. The office interacts with many industries in the country, of which nearly 100+ companies visit the campus to hold campus interviews. The industries which approach the institute come under the purview of Core Engineering industries, IT & IT enabled services, Manufacturing Industries, Consultancy Firms, Finance Companies, Management Organisations and R&D laboratories.

The placements in my branch, ie, Computer science and engineering has good placements and offer in campus and off campus opportunities. Many companies like Google and Amazon come. For girls, there is a girl quota, so you have higher chances of offers than boys.

The fee structure of national institute of Technology Jamshedpur is clearly laid out for everything is provided for us from the breakdown of our hostel fees to each semester fees. For hostel we pay for the water and electricity bill. Also for the food provided and we are fed 4 times a day. For each semester we are required to pay that includes the course itself and lab equipments. Special benefits are provided to those in need.

The campus life is fine. But this college has a special culture it follows. It requires juniors to call their seniors sirs and ma'ams. Which at first feels bizzare but teaches us to follow etiquette necessary for the corporate world. Many college festivald and branch festivals are held for the students and the college is ready to provide funds for it.

The hostel provided for us is enough to survive for 4 years. The water or electricity sometimes stop and there are rats and stray dogs in the vicinity. But the only good thing is that we bond well with our roommates and batchmates.

The requirement of national institute of Technology Jamshedpur required us to take the joint entrance exam with the required score of atleast 90 to 98. The admission process of this college was not as hectic as it was, but it still has room for improvement for not making it so disorganized and crowded on the first day as it felt a bit overwhelming.
