Course Curriculum Overview
I have chosen this course became this is a unique course and have high scopes for research and development as well and also would aware us about not only manufacture of dairy products but also about the food safety and quality management. The faculty:student is 15:44 Majority of the faculty members are post graduates and doctorates and the teaching methods are easily understandable. For every semester, two term examinations take place, mid term examinations or internal examinations (after three months of commencement of the sem) and external or end term examinations where practical examinations also takes place. The questions are of standard difficulty and it is not much difficult to pass if studied the way the faculty members and professors taught.
Internships Opportunities
The companies that offer internships are Amul, Purabi Dairy, Keventers, ITC etcs and the roles offered as Quality control managers, BMC officer, Packaging officers, etc. The stipend range is 8000-20,000 INR. The internships takes place for 6 months. The work of Quality control managers is to check whether the product manufactured is safe for selling in market or not by various physical and chemical processes. BMC officers take note of the proper chilling of raw milk before it is sent to processing units and the Packaging officers ensure the proper packaging of dairy products with minimal to no contaminations.
Placement Experience
From 7th semester, the students are eligible for campus placements. Various companies including all the famous food and dairy industries and brands like AMUL, ITC, Keventers visit the university for recruiting the students at various posts. The highest starting package after completing graduation is 7 lakhs/annum and the average is 4-5 lakhs per annum. This can be increased to about 10-12 lakhs per annum after completion of post graduation and the average package also increases to 7-8 lakhs/ annum. The percentage of students getting placements is 100% My plan after getting the BTech degree in Dairy technology is opting for higher studies and completing post graduation.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The fees per semester of this course is ?3850 (if the student is day-scholar) and ?5710 (for hosteller). This university is under the State government of West Bengal. The scholarships that can be applied here are SVMCM, Oasis, etc and the University also provudes University merit scholarship for the top 10 rank holders of each batch (terms and conditions applied). The university also provides stipends when the students are sent to do internships in various plants and industries.
Campus Life
International seminar and Reunion takes place in the month of December. Most of the national holidays and puja (Vasant Panchami and Viswakarma puja) are also celebrated graciously. National Milk Day is also celebrated where different types of activities are organised like quiz competitions. The University has a Central Library where 500+ books on this subject are there along with various other books for competitive exams and other related subjects. The library also has various journals and research papers for the aid of the students. The university has classroom for all 4 years, one work shop, laboratories for both UG and PG level for the three departments of Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Microbiology and Dairy Technology. It also has electrical labs and fluid mechanics lab for Dairy engineering department. It also has Student Dairy where various dairy products are manufactured for sell and are done by the students themselves. Inter year football and cricket tournaments take place every year.
Hostel Facilities
Three students can stay in a room and it has proper light and fan facilities. They also comes with study table, chairs, book racks and wardrobes. Meals are given twice a day, once in the morning and other in late evening. Both veg and non veg diets are available as per the student's choice. The meal contains the required nutrients for a balanced diet. The registration process for hostel can be done at the time of the admission process of the university itself. It is also quite affordable. If the student wanted to rent a room or PG then they can do so in Mohanpur, Haringhata or Bara Jaguli, which are closer locations to the university campus
Admission
A student can opt for this course (BTech in Dairy Technology) in West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) if they have the subject combination of PCM or PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology) in their 10+2 standard and have cleared West Bengal Joints Entrance Examination (WBJEE) or Indian Council of Agricultural Research Examination (ICAR) with suitable ranks. The application form will be available once the students have been allotted with this university after the completion of counselling processes. The number of seats for this course is 44 where 15 seats are unreserved, 10 seats for SC category, 3 seats for ST Category, 4 seats for OBC-A, 3 seats for OBC-B, 2 seats for PWD and 7 seats are reserved for ICAR candidates.
