Remarks
The college experience has been OK up till now. It hasn't been too good or too bad. Academics are good, although they do strain upon it too much, but, still, the results aren't that appealing. Some of the teachers are aloof and disinterested but some are really good. So it brings the teaching standards to only above average. They have all the facilities but utilization of these aren't up to the mark. The college management could do better by taking assessments from students. I have enjoyed college and look forward to a great final semester.
Entrance Preview
I did not write any entrance exam, as there was none. Delhi University doesn't conduct entrance exams for B.com Hons. They do not host any interviews either for the admission. I got admission by applying online to the DU admissions portal. The only requirement was really good marks in the 12th board examinations as DU takes in students by the cut off procedure. I had pursued a commerce stream in 12th and always wanted to go for B.Com and also, DU is one of the best universities in India, so, I finally landed up here. I had heard a lot about it from friends and family over the years, that's why I decided to join the university.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Course Curriculum is well designed by the university. The only problem is in its implementation in our college. The teaching staff doesn't take the burden to teach the subjects practically, rather they just want the theoretical part to be covered. So most often we just learn what is in the text rather than understanding the applications of these topics. I think it is a major fault considering we are studying commerce. I am not aware of any, but I think there must be research works going on in the campus. Yes, we have electives in second and third years.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, there are some internship fairs conducted in the college. But all the companies that come in are mostly startups, so forget stipend! There are no internships available within the campus as part of research projects or anything. Other internships are all outside the college and we are supposed to find them ourselves. They are better because more than often we have stipends.
Placement Experience
Placement scenario is the most negative part of this college. They don't care much about the future of their students. There are only very few companies those come for recruitment. Some of these are start-ups themselves, so it doesn't provide us students with the needed exposure or a good salary. Only a fraction of students who apply get good placements in the first place. So eventually, many of us have decided not to apply for placements.
College Events
Events aren't frequent as they should be, let it be any kind of event whether cultural or managerial or technical. Once in, like, 2 months, is what is the frequency of any event and that too not that good. There is Ethnic Day and the Annual College Day to name a few. The college does organise the events themselves. We have funds allotted from the college end for these programs. The university strictly asks for a certain number of events every year so that's what the college does.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees is really affordable. DU is not at all an expensive university. It aims at providing good quality education with only moderate fee amounts that everyone could afford. For the three year B.Com course, it was only around 10000 bucks a year. So in three years the fee will only be a little more than 30000 rupees. There are no hidden charges or donation fee required. Those who stay in hostels will have to pay extra for that as the figure I mentioned covers only the academic fees.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, college doesn't provide any scholarships. Students are supposed find the scholarships or funding on their own. The college does not arrange for loans either, mostly because only very few students actually require loans with such low fees.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are abundant, but the opportunities provided is the main problem. The facilities are too good. The daily schedule is always full with classes, assignments and project works. We usually don't get enough time to pursue other interests most of the time. It is a full stop for all the aspirants for such Extracurricular activities.
Hostel Facilities
No, I don't stay in a hostel or a PG. But I do have friends who stay in hostels. From what I heard from those hostellers is that the hostels are pretty good. The rooms are single or double sharing. It is also furnished with a study table for each student. The food lacks variety so that's a bit tiring. There are PGs outside campus and some of the students prefer living there. I don't know about the rates there of the food provided.
Alumni/Alumna
Once in a year, there is an Alumni Meet conducted by the college. There is not much of Alumni-College relationship otherwise. The meetings are nice but they do not help the students in any way or in the college's overall development.
Exam Structure
No, exams aren't frequent in our college. We have both internal exam and end semester exams. It is all regular throughout the three years. It does not tire me out. There is a certain pressure to perform well but I think it happens all the time to students in general. But it was not so chilled out either. It was just a little more than normal days.
Faculty
Faculty is good, but not what you can expect from the college teachers. They do interact, but only a small proportion of them. Most of the teachers are not at all bothered about the students or their subjects. I found the attitude really discouraging. Sometimes, even when we genuinely want to approach them for clarifications, they might blow us off. The few who are interactive are good enough but they cannot make up for others. So I would rate the teaching standards at a 6 out of 10.
