Remarks

College management is the best thing about sxccal. No commotion within the college and complete peace describes our college. Everything is carried out systematically.

Entrance Preview

Admission was on the basis of higher secondary marks. I scored about 94% on the whole. Marks for the best of four subjects were considered. No interview is necessary for the purpose of admission.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum mainly focuses on the basics of statistics without going into much details. External studies and self studies are essential if the focus is mainly on research. Moreover the semester system cuts short the course period. However the course provides an overall idea about the subject.

Internships Opportunities

The college provides internships but i have had no experience of any internship. Seniors have mentioned good experiences at internships that they have availed. The general stipend is around 20000.

Placement Experience

4

Numerous companies including google, ibm etc come for camp using and packages as huge as 12 lacs pa are provided immediately after bachelor's degree. The placement cell of the college manages and deals with the companies and provides a bridge between the companies and the students.

College Events

4.5

Events include the main college fest Xavotsav which is held on the month of January every year. Other societies like xadam( dance and music), Bengali literary society, drama society etc have their own fests such as goonj, xavullas etc. Each department celebrate there own seminars, department fests etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is feasible. No extra charges are payable to the college for any fests or any other purposes. The monthly fees for sxccal is about 2000. The admission fees paid at the very beginning included all other expenses including examination fees, money for fests etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college does not provide any scholarships or loan facilities. Neither have seniors availed any such facility. However full co operation is provided for availing scholarships from other sources.

Campus Life

4.5

Everyone on Xavier's campus is helpful. Gender ratio is about 3:2. Labs are very well arranged and maintained. Annual sports day is celebrated every February. Over the year students engage themselves in various sports, cultural programmes. Social work, guided by nss is compulsory for all students. Programmes on women empowerment and other sensitive social issues are held. The students council operates peacefully without any political intervention.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel facilities, as heard from friends who avail the facilities, are good enough. There is Strict surveillance on studies. Canteen food is good. No information of food poisoning from college food. Rotten food is never served. Those who cannot avail college hostel live as paying guests or on rent.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students of our department have been exceptionally helpful. Not only about academics, they were at our rescue for any other problem faced in college.

Exam Structure

The exams are held very systematically. A day is mentioned before hand for form fill up. Date of Collection of admit card is also notified previously. No delay is made on these two occasions. Routine of the exams are put up on the college notice board. Any change in the routine is notified. Exams are held on time, sincerely and peacefully.

Admission

Procured the form from college website. A list was produced by the college containing names of selected student. Date and time of admission was notified through email. Admission was smooth. It did not take long. We were properly guide for all the necessary steps required for admission including submission of forms, birth certificate, results, identity proof and the admission fees.

Faculty

3

All professors of the statistics department are highly qualified. However there is some lack of interest in teaching among some of them. Moreover sticking strictly to the syllabus and not going beyond it at all is a salient feature of the faculty. This might be because of the time constraint.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I've always found economics to be really interesting and thats why I choose to persue it. I wanted to dive deep into the actual concepts and workings of the economy and understand how the world works from an economist's point of view. Sadly the curriculam doesnt bridge the gap between theory and real life. It focuses heavily on textbook and not how the world works.

The Physical Chemistry faculties are the best I got, that influenced me to carry forward my research carrier in Physical Chemistry. The curriculum for the Physical and Inorganic chemistry are upto the mark and I felt improvement in teaching style and curriculum is required for Organic Chemistry part. The difficulty of Internal examination can be improved a bit.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would say the course is good but you have to opt for masters and PhD to get a good placement. After bsc there's not any placement. The curriculum was basically practical and theoretical based. But I think it should be more practical so that we can get a job after doing bsc. The teaching method was good I didn't have any problem with that. As it was under Calcutta University so the exam questions were too difficult, sometimes it came out of our syllabus , i think they should change this a little bit .

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus for BSc. Microbiology Hons. was in line with my interests. Few topics like virology, bacteriology, and diversity of the microbial workd are what drew my attention to pick this course. Although there are some portions which one would consider "boring", but I believe every subject has its interesting as well as boring portions. It's seems fair to judge a subject by seeing if the "boring" portions outweigh the "interesting" parts or not.

Course Curriculum Overview:

In terms of relevance and comprehensiveness of the course curriculum, my rating is solid 4.1 out of 5. Because it offers a variety of courses like compulsory english, environmental science, constitution values of India, Inter Disciplinary Courses where one can opt for a variety of subjects which change along with the course proceeds or semester changes. Not only that two major papers and one minor paper are present throughout the semester. As a student we should be well aware of our country and its law as well as how we can keep our environment healthy followed by sustainable development.
