Remarks

Remarks - 1. One of those colleges where students can understand the subjects rather than mugging. 2. One of those colleges where students can grow in terms of careers. Improvements - 1. Could invite companies like GOOGLE or MICROSOFT for atleast a pool campusing.

Entrance Preview

To get admission in KGEC I took JECA exam which is the West Bengal entrance for MCA. I scored 76 rank (General) in 2011 JECA Examination. I opted KGEC because: 1. It is fully govt. sponsored. As such there are several schemes for deduction of fees which was 56000 INR (2011-2014 batch) including the admission fees for 3yrs. In fact there is a provision that students can pay all the fees at the end of 3yrs. 2. Several govt. scholarships. 3. Great faculty. 4. Great labs. 5. Several exposure to great institutes for further studies like PHD.

Internships Opportunities

College does not provide on its own but students get the opportunity to avail internship at other bigger institutions like IIT. I know personally some students of our batch who did internship at IIT kgp. In fact, I did internship at ONGC RCC (Regional Computer Center) at New Alipore, Kolkata.

Placement Experience

4

The top recruiter is TCS, which intakes most of the student. Apart from TCS there are wipro, accenture, atos, ITC infotech, capgemini etc which visits the college but their intake is not that bulk. The placement cell is average say 7/10. But it will provide information regarding pool-campus recruitment. Apart from these students can always appear off-camp using.

College Events

4.5

In the college there is a cultural and tech fest of KGEC ESPEKTRO. Students gather the donations and there are other sponsors who support the fest. In the fest there are competitions like : * Short film festivals. * Robo Wars. * Drone Flying competitions. * Rocket flying and others. * Singing * Dancing * Quiz * Coding Competitions * Treasure Hunt * Rubic's Cube solving Apart from these there are also other bands which perform.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is affordable. It is below 60000 INR including the admission fees and the caution money for the 3yrs. In fact for those students who are financially weak there are provisions for half or full free (of fees) for a semester (the student can further apply for the next semester too). Several scholarships are there for SC, ST and OBC students.

Fees and Financial Aid

For those students who are financially weak there are provisions for half or full free (of fees) for a semester (the student can further apply for the next semester too). Several scholarships are there for SC, ST and OBC students.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is great. The campus boast a beautiful nature clad environment. Any student can enjoy the nature. There are always several sports are played on the grounds. Regarding the gender ratio its are male : female = 3:1. Regarding the diversity almost in a batch one can find students from several districts of West Bengal. In fact students from other states can be found too.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are 4 hostels: *VC (Vidyasagar Chatrabas) - MCA students stay here. *RRR (Raja Rammohan Roy Hall) *RBC (Rishi Bamkim Chandra Hall) *PC (Pritilata Chatrinibas) - It is the girls' hostel There is stiff competitions among st the hostels in terms of sports and other extra curricular activities. The mess food is not that great but once in a month a special dinner called ID (Ideal Dinner) is held which is considered as a great meal of restaurant standard.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is one of the best. From the 1st day there will be an environment of interaction between the seniors and the juniors. And by the 2nd year every students will be knowing each other. In fact even after graduating students keep in touch.

Exam Structure

Exam structure is as per the University. But internal exams are tough. And it is mandatory for students to keep 70% attendance to sit in the exam. The internal exams serve as a practice sets for the final. The lab exams are also tough. As students need to keep their lab notebook up to dated with the concerned topics and if any student fails to do so, marks will be deducted in the final exams.

Admission

On receiving the Rank Card of JECA I went for the counselling (which was informed by the JECA council over mail). There I choose KGEC. Then within the stipulated date I took admission at the KGEC.

Faculty

4.5

The faculties are well qualified. Most of them are either PHDs or pursuing one. Some of the faculties of other dept.s are having M. Phils In fact I know few who have multiple PHDs ( from other dept). Most of the faculties(of MCA) try to teach in a simple non-bookish manner.

I got selected through WB-JECA. As I did BCA, I choose this course because I heard about this college faculty and extra activities. Internship is not from college, you have to apply from outside. Placements of the college is okay. On an average 80% students get placed in good companies on campus. Labs are well equipped

In the Last 3 years i did not notice anything bad about my college. I had the best 3 years in the past 3 years. First, my experience in college had given me a chance to sharpen my skills in my field of choice. There have been, and there will continue to be, many opportunities to learn more ways of improving my craft as a result of my time in school, which I am truly thankful for.
