Hindu College and it's Shenanigans

So, I was from the 2020 batch where we were able to have a normal online admission process. We gave our board exams and got admission to DU (in traditional courses), except BMS (which offers admission through DUJAT). I scored 95.25% (from OBC category - NCL) and got admission to Hindu College in BCom Hons. The course eligibility depends upon various factors such as the percentage of best 4 (which was around 97% for General, 94% for OBC, and 90% for SC & ST candidates, also EWC, and Pwd candidates who can avail quota benefits in DU). For the application process, you had to register at DU's official site, upload all the necessary documents, and wait for the cut-offs to be released. Once the cut-offs were released, you had to select a college and course, according to the cut-offs you cleared for colleges, and according to your wants. The reservation benefits are quite good at DU since, I got admission to Hindu College at 95.25%, and OBC (NCL only) candidates get a relaxation of 1.75-2%.

I chose BCom Hons because I wanted to pursue a career in Finance. However, once you get into the college, you get to learn there are so many fields to explore such as Human Resources, Operations, Customer Service, Content Writing, Graphic Designing, etc. The faculty at Hindu is top-notch, the professors are well versed with their respective subjects and help clear up all the doubts, they are understandable and at times quite lenient too. Mostly all the professors in Kaizen (commerce department), have masters and Ph.D. in commerce. The teaching method is informative; taught through flashcards, presentations, etc. The term exams usually occur at the end of a semester (usually 4-6 months), and exams are of moderate level, you can pass them if you start studying one month before exams and just mug up 10 years.

The internships at Hindu College are led by ABHYAS, the placement cell of Hindu College. Usually, the cell offers internships through various domains such as content writing, graphic designing, human resources, finance, etc. The majority of the internships are paid; it depends upon the company and the profile, for instance, some companies offer a ratio of fixed components for the stipend, and the rest would be variable. Projects and outcomes to clarify a task depend on the profile you're sitting for. For example, an assignment is given to perform for content writing internships to test your writing skills. In general, internships are offered by big MNCs and NGOs such as EY, Deloitte, KPMG, WWF, Teach for India, D. E. Shaw, etc.

From 5th semester (if a three-year course), students become eligible to sit for placements led by DISHA, the placement cell of Hindu College. Prestigious and reputable companies visit Hindu College to offer roles related to Consultancy, HR, Finance, Product Management, etc. To name a few: Bain and Co, McKinsey Co, L.E.K Consulting, D. E. Shaw, etc. visit the campus to offer opportunities across various roles. The highest package last year was 29,00,000 LPA and the average package was 9,00,000 LPA. Usually, the percentage of students getting placed is around 90%. My plans after graduation would be to get a job in HR, get some years of working experience and go for MBA.

The fees usually range from 16000-19000 for BCom (Hons.), I paid around 19000 in my first year, around 16500 in my second year, and 17000 in my third year. The cost to study is affordable compared to how expensive education is nowadays. One can avail of various scholarships such as NSP, INSPIRE, etc. for up to 30,000 for UG. Financial assistance is also provided to EWS students and the placements at Hindu are something worth staying for, where the average package is around 9,00,000, the median package is around 7,00,000 and the highest package last year was 29,00,000 INR. There exists a placement cell, called Disha which provides placement opportunities to students, and an Internship cell called, Abhyas which provides internship opportunities to students, usually, there are paid internships except for volunteer ones.

Hindu College has its annual fest, MECCA which invites artists to perform in the college. MECCA is open to students through the entire DU circuit altogether, the fest usually happens in February or March. There are various departmental fests as well such as Zeitgeist for the commerce Department around February. Hindu is well-known for its spacious and diverse library, you can find almost any book in the library. Hindu recently built its new research center and the amenities for science students especially increased to perform various experiments in the lab. The classrooms are spacious and have a nostalgic vibe to them. However, no A.C. though except for the Commerce Department. There are sports clubs, fashion societies, western and traditional dance societies, and volunteering societies that students can join according to their interests.
