Course Curriculum Overview

4

I love Mathematics since my childhood. I enjoy to solve the problems in mathematics assignment as it is a relief from my loneliness and anxiety. That is the main reason why I choose this course. I had many hopes that it will enhance my interest in mathematics. But somehow I am not able give my proper attention to it. The main reason of this can be hectic college life and mind divergence towards the optional subjects which I have to study. I think the credit of core subjects need to be increased so that interest of students doesn't lost in Mathematics. It is a little bit hard subject but can be very interesting at a time. The main issue related to this course is the lack of placements. Mainly the placements are available for only statistics and economics students while the mathematics students rarely get any placement. The only career options available are teaching, become mathematicians and government employees. The course is comparatively easy and you can score good cgpa in it. The only difficult subject is Analysis but you can understand it.

Internships Opportunities

3

There is a internship society available in the college known as Abhyas - the internship cell. It provides various internship opportunities to all the students and prepare themselves for the future. The stipend is around Rs 5,000-10,000. The internships are mostly available around the Noida side.

Placement Experience

3

There is very rare placement for my course in my college. If you want any placement, you have to do minor in some other subjects like economics and statistics. You can masters after that and then PhD. Then you can become a great mathematician in future too. Most students are thinking to clear the Upsc and other government exams after the graduation. If you want to any placement you have to score around 9.5 cgpa in your 6 semesters.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of my course in the Hindu College is Rs. 27970 for the general/obc category and Rs. 27785 for the Sc/St category. There is no other charges other than that except the examination fees which is around Rs. 2000. There are many scholarships available for the students like the nsp scholarship of amount Rs. 12000 for Sc/St students. Other scholarship is inspire which is available for the students who scored more than 95 percent marks in the 12th class.

Campus Life

5

There is basically a fest during the Diwali called 'Suruchi' in the college in which various stalls are available for the students who want to buy things for Diwali. Then the annual fest Mecca occurs in the month of April in the college in which various celebrities come to entertain the students of college. There are many books available for the English and Hindi hons. students so that they can find books related to their course. Journals are also available for all the students. All classrooms have projectors which supports virtual classes. There is a volleyball and basketball court in the college and the sports ground of the college is the biggest in the north campus. There are various societies in the college like nss, ncc which are helpful for the students in the future life.

Admission

I choose this college as it got the NIRF rank 1 in 2024. The college is very diverse in terms of courses and students. The college has a campus area of around 25 acre. I have applied for the other colleges of north campus too but Hindu College was my first priority. I got it in the first round of common seat allocation system so I didn't need to bother to choose other colleges. I have to give cuet exam so that I can take admission in Delhi University. The eligibility for my course was to study mathematics till 12th class and the student who has given maths exam in cuet and 2 other subject and 1 language exam. Then the cutoff for this course comes in various colleges. College and course are allotted on the CSAS portal of Delhi University. Then the students have to accept that seat and pay the fees.

Faculty

4

There are total 61 students in my class and 11 faculty members in my department. Around 200 students are there in my course. The faculty members are very understanding and help us in every possible way. Actually I like the whole faculty but Bindu Bansal mam of Analysis is my favourite. Her teaching skills are so nice which makes it easier for students to understand the concepts. There are 2 semesters in each year and students have to give exams at the end of each semester. Exams are easy to pass, the only difficult one was the Elementary Real Analysis. You have to score 40 percent marks to pass in theory exams. Just 7-8 students fail to pass the exam each semester. Some faculty members are strict but there is no lack of efforts by them. We can easily approach to them without any hesitation as some are very very friendly and kind.

Night Life

3

The best late night activities in north campus is surfing in yulu bikes in cold winter breezes, cafes and clubs in Hudson lane for last minute partying, the in timings of hostel is 8 pm. You can roam around the streets in the late night to enjoy the peaceful night with your friends. There are various cafeteria available in the kamla nagar market to visit.

Other Applied Colleges

Hansraj College - [HRC] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Mathematics)

I got my first preferred college, Hindu College in the first round of common seat allocation system.

Placement Experience:

Placements in IGNOU are quite limited compared to regular universities. Since IGNOU is an open and distance learning university, it does not have a strong campus placement system like DU or private colleges. There is a Campus Placement Cell (CPC) that conducts job fairs and recruitment drives at some regional centers, but these are not very frequent and mostly depend on the location. Usually, students who are in their final year or have completed the course can apply, but there is no fixed semester rule since the system is flexible. The companies that visit are not very large in number and vary every year. Some private firms, NGOs, BPOs, insurance companies, and small IT firms have participated in the past. The roles are generally entry-level such as sales, customer support, data entry, insurance advisor, or junior IT support. There are very limited opportunities for core mathematics or research roles through placements. As far as packages are concerned, the average package is usually around ?2.5 LPA to ?4 LPA, but since IGNOU is an open university, it cannot be expected to have the same placement levels as regular colleges with full-time classes. Also, the percentage of students placed is very small because most IGNOU students are either working professionals, homemakers, or people preparing for competitive exams, so placements are not the main focus. Many students use the degree as a qualification while pursuing their own career path outside. I am currently in my 2nd year, so I do not have personal placement experience yet. The data I have mentioned here is based on internet sources and feedback from other IGNOU students. From what I have learned, placements exist but are very limited, and one should not rely only on them for career building.

The curriculum of my course BSc honours physics is pretty good and it provides sufficient informations in theory classes and practical labs are maintain good and teachers are actively participate in the practicals with the students to teach them more about this course. The frequency of the timing is difficult I can say that because it has many theory classes and on everyday due to which the students can't focus on the subjects and regular activities other than main course.
