Entrance Preview

I took JELET , West Bengal Lateral Entry Entrance Exam by WBJEEB to enter this college. Actually I forget my exact score / rank but I think I got a rank around 860. I opted in this college mainly because of 2 reason, first of all this college is a Government college, and the reputation is very good in West Bengal till now. Additional reason was the natural beauty and pleasant weather.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course structure is good enough but students should follow that properly. When I passed out from this college on that time the college was under WBUT. I mean our course structure was maintained by WBUT but UGC had agreed to confer autonomy to JGEC on 2012 (most probably) and that was applied from 2014 joining batch.

Internships Opportunities

There was no internship for CSE or IT till my pass out year. But I heard that our college provided internship for some other courses (like Civil Engg., Mechanical Engg. etc.). Truly say I have not enough idea about this.

Fees and Financial Aid

There were many scholarship / facility program like IOCL scholarship, Half free fees, Full free fees, stipend etc. I had applied HFF for all semesters and also got the same.

Campus Life

Our campus life was very good. There is a tea garden within the campus. We had enjoyed a lot at there. The gender ratio wasn't good enough on that time (around 8:1) mainly because of its location. JGEC is located in Jalpaiguri town which is little away from main city Siliguri.

Exam Structure

The exam structure was semester based with two internals per semester. I can say, that was the typical engineering exam structure with huge number of tests and exams. Every year was divided into two semester and every semester was divided into two internal exam for all subjects with one practical exam for all applicable subjects with viva.

Admission

It is very difficult to tell all this things step by step. But what I remember I took admission on August 2011 directly in 2nd year because I had diploma certificate of Computer Software and Technology. I did not face any problem because I had all the educational certificate with JELET rank card in my hand and also administration was very helpful.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty was very good and most of them had a really vast knowledge on their own course as well as on some other course too. But I want to say that their interest to teach a particular course was equal to (or nearly equal to) the interest of the college students. If any students had an own interest to learn something then the faculty was really very helpful.

Yes our college offers campus placements.Students from 4th year are eligible for campus placements.Many reputed nation and international companies like microsoft,Wipro,TCS, Infosys and many more companies offrers placement every year in this college. arrording to 2025 deta overall placement rate was 82 percent, Highest packege was 80 lpa and average packege was 12.6lpa. My only plan to get a good placements.

The course curriculum is very relevant and useful for us.They teach data structures algorithm that is very important for college placements and they also teach os, networks and other usefull things that is very important in computer science.They provide very high quality labs and the whole college has a good internet connection.Tecahers are very educated and good they helps us and teaching in very good way .The exams time schedule is also very good if there is any problem the college will change the exam date that is really a good thing.

Placement Experience:

The campus placement from recently past years is slightly good . Like tcs infosys cognizant ibm Capgemini like companies comes every year with good placement and capsitech gives you internship from 3 year . From 7th sem you are eligible for campus placement in 2025 the avg package is 5-7 lpa and Highest lpa is 75lpa . My plan is getting good job in good company

Placement Experience:

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months

Placement Experience:

In my college according to this year college placements went 82% . If you can't get campus placement , there is a high probability if you can apply for any job outside campus and you have relevant skills you can get it . As alumini network of this college is quite good . Microsoft, apple, Deloitte,....etc many companies visits i don't even remember ????more . After getting degree i wants to prepare for govt job

Unbiased Review of JGEC

I applied to a few other government engineering colleges but i ended up choosing JGEC.The main reasons: JGEC is a well established,fully government owned autonomous college,with good accreditation.It also has a long history since 1961,which made me trust its academic environment.Compared to other colleges i applied to ,JGEC felt more stable and credible.It also has a reasonable structure and good campus infrastructure,labs and oppurtunities for intership .There is also a good scope for higher studies like GATE.The marks vs rank went extremely high in WBJEE 2025.That's why i didn't get a college i applied for which is near my home. You can take admission by giving WBJEE and JELET only.As it is a government college you can only take admission if you get a good rank .There is also different cut-offs for diff catagory.The overall admission process is was very smooth and systematic....Read More

According to my West Bengal joint entrance examination rank I said for the counselling in the first round I got Kalyani Government Engineering College with IT department but that was with the reservation under EWS quota with rank 2869.
