Remarks

I choose this college at the first place because Thapar University offers best placements compared to other private universities. Thapar University provides best campus life and academics. Other advantage of joining Thapar University that it is located in north and being from Punjab encourages me to join this college.Thapar have an excellent placement records , qualified team of professionals as well as faculty members who provide the best possible guidance. One bad aspect of this college is that it's hard to get CSE without good JEE marks as seats are limited and need to have minimum 60% in CBSE to clear cutoff. Admission process involves JEE Rank and counselling process , rounds based on closing rank and therefore clearing cutoff can apply. Thapar University starts from June mid till August. I used Carrer 360 while selecting this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

I choose BTech in Electronics and communication over any other course because I was more inclined learning new technologies and get knowledge in that domain. Mostly professor in our college did there specialization in there respective field including Specialization Networks and Crytography , Specialization in Machine learning , Statistical Methods in Computer Science and NLP. Boys to girl student ratio in Thapar University is 7:3 which is not that bad and will definately improve by time. All the professors, associate professors were higly qualified and specialized in respective technology. Courses that were taught were reviewed from time to time. Teaching method and learning activities and the assessment, active participation of student in all learning activities. Term exams took place twice in a year and if you do well throughout the year by making notes regularly and solving previous year questions. It won't be tough for you to get a good cgpa.

Internships Opportunities

4

Yes, I did opted for an internship and got an internship in ST Micro in last semester of my course. I got job offer as well internship offer and most of students did that only. Companies providing internship included ST Micro , Infosys , White Panda and many more. Roles offered by these companies were related to Business Operation Associate , Software developer , Data scientist and Business Analyst. Projects various company to company Hitpa project for health insurance company and to handle there and client who register for insurance policies thereby.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placement session of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology concluded with 990+ job offers being rolled out by various companies. The highest salary package offered was 39 lpa by Microsoft and Average salary package offered was around 7lpa . Companies visited our college included Amazon, Microsoft , Apple , Amdocs, Oyo , Deloitte, Amadeus , Wipro and many more big Mncs. According to the college, almost 100% placements are guaranteed , mostly from computer science branch and around 80% + were placed from our college.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees structure during my time was around 127000 for first two semester and fees hike policy each year around 8% and cost to study for four years comes out to be around 11 lakh 70 thousand. First 10% of admitted students on basis of AIR of JEE Main. Also there are scholarship who have secured more than 85% marks in 10+2. Half of Tution Fee waive off for candidate who secured more than 95% in 10+2. 1st year student of any stream and should have atleast 80% marks scored in 12th and atleast 40% marks in JEE mains and havind annual family income <= 5.00 Lacs. I got a job on campus in Amdocs with stipend 45000/ month.

Campus Life

4

Campus life in Thapar University which i really miss after passing out from college. Cultural fest organized by college is Mudra Eve in the October month. Food festival in Sept starting. Saturnalia - The inter institute techno- cultural festival which happens in Oct End. In summer February Urja - The inter institute sports festival and Izhaar - The inter year cultural festival are conducted. Nava Nalanda Central Library in Thapar is housed in a centrally air conditioned spacious premises covering an area of 25000 square feet. It has over one lakh books. Thapar sports section organizes the tournaments like Cricket, Volleyball , Basetball and Football. Inter technology University Competition, Thaparlympics inter department sports to organize and coordinate sports activities. Thapar Alumni Student Committee (TASC) is one of societies in Thapar University.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facilities provided in the hostel are very good. Rooms are spacious enough and relatively cool during the summers. Although Rooms are built for 3 sharing they are converted into 4 sharing rooms with some rooms in Hostel C being new created for 4 sharing basis. There are gardens in every block and ground floor are much better than the upper ones though. You can play cricket , badminton or volley ball in the hostels even during nights. Food wise all the hostels are more or less the same. Quality of meals are okayish There is no fixed menu for all hostels. All hostels have their own Mess Executive Committee comprising of Hostel residents. Breakfast timming 7:30 - 9 , Lunch 12 - 2 and Dinner 8 - 9. There are no snacks provided in the mess , you have to buy it from hostel canteens. Whole process of hostel registration is done online , you can login through their website and login as a group using your roll number as a login ID and password that is provided during registration process. Depending on the cost , hostel and mess charges seems afforadable.

Admission

No, there was no as such group discussion or interview or written test for the admission. Thapar doesn't conducts any online test rather it focuses on JEE Main and basis of JEE main rank. Admission are provided to the candidates on the basis of marks scored in the entrance examination. So admission into various courses is offered on the basis of scores of national level entrance test. To get admission in Thapar University , candidates have to participate in the counselling process after scoring in JEE Main exam. I did prepare for JEE Main in 11th and 12 th class and side by side preparing for CBSE exams as well. JEE Main is needs little more preparation and bit harder. So , I solved a lot of JEE Main mock tests and sample papers to crack JEE Main exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.
