Remarks

Secured an overall 91% in CBSE boards (English, Economics, Accounts, Business Studies). Hence, applied to Gargi College, Miranda House, and Lady Shri Ram College to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) English Lit & finalized Gargi College, DU. The cutoff list for English Honors soured upto 96% (general category) & I was admitted in the 1st cutoff list (OBC category). The age criteria were in b/w 18 - 20 (females only). The admission process was smooth, where the students were required to carry XIIth & Xth Board Marksheet, Provision, Character, and Quota Certificate. The student council & teachers were present to guide students to the docs verification office. Time is taken ( 2 - 4 hours)

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose to pursue BA (Hons) English at Gargi College, because of the reputation of faculty over other colleges in DU circuit. I was particularly interested in learning about the history, contemporary background of plays, drama, tragedy, novel and poetry. Our professors were highly qualified professionals from University of Cambridge, JNU, Jamia Milia Isllamia and other universities. The faculty consisted of 15 teachers who taught our batch on a rolling basis throughout six semesters. The teaching methods were mostly through books, modules, notes and assignments. The term examinations were designed to test our analytical skills in English Literature & were easy to pass. However, scoring high marks in Literature were tough due to it's highly subjective nature.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

IIT Public Health Internship, 360 Degree Consulting Internship, Accenture Analyst Internship, SRCC financial literacy program, Zara International retail intern and many more. Consisting of duties like ensuring customers service as the market standards, maintaining stock rooms, assisting customers, marketing and media assistance, anaylsing global market, business development, relationship building with stakeholders. The projects are paid most of the times and an assistance team is always helpful.

Placement Experience

4

Students are eligible for internships from the first semester itself. However, for campus placements only third year student batches are eligible. Gargi College is visited by Big 4's like Deloitte, KMPG, Mckinsey, Accenture and also Byju, Mahindra, Tata, and other marketing/financial investing firms. Almost 25% (50+) students were admitted to Big 4 companies. Highest starting package 12 - 15 lacs per annum and average package 1.5 - 2 lac per annum. Moreover, after completion of my degree, I wish to pursue Masters in International Journalism.

Fees and Financial Aid

Delhi University is known for it's affordable fee structure and as students of BA (Hons) English, we were required to pay between INR 9,000 - 11,000 annually. There are very limited scholarships available on financial needs basis. The Gargi College placement cell consistently sends across job/internship placement opportunities for different faculties throughout the year. On campus jobs are not available. However, various societies constantly are on a lookout for team member and volunteers to get involved

Campus Life

4.5

Gargi College conducts it's annual festival called 'Reverie' every January/February and 'Zistatva' the Diwali fest every September/October. Course reference books are available across library (fully equipped with AC & mostly consist of a good book collection). A book store within campus is also present for buying books/stationary at affordable prices. The classrooms are equipped with fans, proper desk, chairs. However, air conditioning facilities not available. There is a sports community and society which consists of teams across NHS, Judo, Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball and many other. Students can participate in various extracurricular activities, webinars, seminars and contests. Student run societies for Dance, Music, Art, Environment, Marketing, Consulting, Finance, Science play a active role in honing skills, and aptitude of their members.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The reason why I choose this subject because I like history and want to know more about it . History have the best opportunities to pursue the UPSC , Anthropology, archeology and we can learn more about historical researches . The faculty im the department of history is updated and well versed in the field of history and have adopted student friendly teaching methods which make me suggest this subject in JMC to the students who likes to pursue higher studies in history. The exams are conducted at the end of every semester with moderate difficulty level .
