Remarks

This college was one of the oldest & best among the Private Institute for Engg. also even better than many NITs. All the companies that go to IITs for placements comes to Thapar aswell, so placement was a huge aspect while choosing thapar.(But now placements have become just IT or analyst job hardly any core branches other than for computer science students come so we are just left with either to learn coding or become an analyst. Infact for ece too hardly 2-3 core company came in 2018)The admission process is simple we have to fill in there forms first and then according to our mains marks we are alloted our branches (Now the university is considering academic 12th class percentage aswell but in 2015 only JEE mains score was considered)The college has an amazing campus you'll have the time of your life, the hefty amount of money they take from us is properly utilized because the infrastructure is amazing esp for the computer science department. The drawback in this university is that too much focus is given to the computer department (because mostly the companies that pay huge salaries are software based companies and mostly require computer background) that other branches are almost neglected ( excluding a few like any branch having computer in it or may be a few elecronics batches)

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

ECE is a varied branch we get knowledge of electronics, computers and electrical aswell so it entirely depends on us which direction to go.The faculty of Ece was highly qualified from top colleges of India & abroad, also they are very cooperative and helpful provided you are willing to learn and explore.Since its an autonomous university so getting a good CGPA isn't a big task, also the marking is relative so you can easily get a good CGPA & exams happen twice every sem including quizzes.

Placement Experience

4

The placements record is good many students of CS branch do get placed in 10 lac+ companies. The highest package in my year was 40lac+ of a FinTech company. For ECE, core companies that come to Thapar are very less and take even lesser students so mostly ece people are also either preparing for coding companies or any FinTech companies which easily fetch them great jobs.Average placement varies from 6lac- 7lac.Some people do opt for higher education so they either prepare for MS or Mtech or many prepare for govt. jobs.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The Fee structure is the only problem of this college, the fees is extremely high and especially after their ties with Trinity, the fees has been exponentially increasing, but a few students do get a good amount of scholarship but only a few. Specific branch toppers are given full fee scholarships also during admission the ones with high JEE mains score are given scholorship. The placements record is good many students of CS branch do get placed in 10 lac+ companies. The highest package in my year was 40lac+ of a FinTech company. For ECE, core companies that come to Thapar are very less and take even lesser students so mostly ece people are also either preparing for coding companies or any FinTech companies which easily fetch them great jobs.

Campus Life

5

The infrastructure is class its AMAZING, i mean although the new buildings are much more superior and give us a vibe of some international campus but the old buildings are also really great. We have ample number of societies, fests, events in college that it keeps us soo engaged, plus since anyone can be a part in any event its gives a great learning experience plus exposure to great extent and also we get good things to write on our CVs. Its literally the best.

We were offered placement assistance as it was an online program and i really think it is a good initiative because college are least bothered for placements for their online programs. As i had to pursue a career in marketing i started doing projects and internships in marketing and sales domain.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.
