Remarks
I applied for 4 colleges including St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. I didn't attend the other three colleges because I researched that St. Xavier's College, Kolkata had the best Mathematics faculty. I didn't apply under any quota. I got admission directly with the help of my marks. In general, a student with 96% overall and 98 in mathematics (or above) gets admission to this college without any quota. The counseling day was used to get us acquainted with the college, classroom, teachers, etc.
Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to study mathematics since I was a kid. There were around 60 students in our class and 8 teachers in the faculty. The teachers were all post-graduate from colleges including the IITs and 3 of them had Ph.D. The exams were always at a fixed month and were moderately difficult (depending on the paper).
Internships Opportunities
The policy with internships is the same as that of placement. Companies including Wipro, TCS, etc give out placements with standard procedure and standard stipend. There is a dissertation project in the final semester that gives us an idea of how Ph.D. might work.
Placement Experience
Students may apply for placement in semester 5 Mathematics with Economics and Statistics students generally apply for placement and get through companies including TCS, Wipro, etc. I however didn't apply for placement because I wanted to do MSc and then if possible Ph.D.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is higher than most colleges in Kolkata. It was higher the year we had computer science as a pass course. I didn't get any scholarships. I didn't apply for a placement as I wanted to pursue MSc.
Campus Life
The annual fest is named Xavotsav. It is one the biggest in the country. I Loved the college library. It had every single book that I ever needed: math books, novels, etc. The classrooms were large and airy. Xavier's had every possible extracurricular activity one can think of. It also had a student union which had ABSOLUTELY NO CONTACT WITH THE OUTSIDE POLITICAL PARTIES.
