Remarks

Overall, good college. Good for corporate jobs as well as for higher studies. However, a lot of effort need to be put from the students.

Entrance Preview

DSE has it's own entrance examination. This is the best college for Economics, and hence I chose this.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

DSE curriculum has a lot and lot of maths and stats. Linear Algebra has been an integral part in courses on game theory, micro economics etc. So, expect to crunch a lot of matrix, vectors, eigen values, N X M’s in DSE. This will be very helpful for higher studies in PhD. However, in case you don't like mathematics that much, or you are more interested in the theoretical part of it, for example the policies, the economic interpretations etc, this should not be the first choice.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, in 2010-2012 batch, the highest package for Internship was Rs 50,000/month by Citi, Rs 35,000/month by Nomura etc. Around 30+ students got internship offer with 20K/month stipend. Around 70+ students got internship offer with 5K/month. All internships are for 2 months.

Placement Experience

4.5

Companies - PnG, Citi, Nomura, Amex, Goldman Sachs, RBS, ICICI, Essex Lake, Target, HP, Genpact Highest package - Rs 15.6 LPA Average package - Rs 8 LPA Out of 91 students, around 78 got placed, and remember that year was affected by Greek crisis. Data for 2010-2012 batch.

College Events

3.5

Students are involved in NGO activities, Magazines writings and publications, Quizzes, Debates etc. Annual fest is marked by speech by eminent economists, followed by street drama, evening songs and dance etc. Every week, there is a seminar in the college, where the latest research work is shared by faculty members, PhD students and other old students working as renowned economists in IMF, World Bank, FICCI, Chamber of commerce etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Tuition fees and college fees - Rs 13000 for two years. Placement cell membership fees - Rs 12000 for two years. No other expenditure on college front. One of the cheapest college in India, and best Returns on Investment (RoI). Affordable without any debate.

Fees and Financial Aid

One scholarship of Rs 5000 per month. Given to entrance examiner + scholarship interview topper for first year. Student getting the highest marks in first year, gets the scholarship in second year. A few other scholarships are available, which are like Rs 200 per month to Rs 1000 per month. These are awarded on the basis of entrance examination result + scholarship interview in first year. For second year, the sole basis is marks obtained in first year.

Campus Life

2.5

You will find more female students compared to male students. No sports facilities, sports are not organized officially through the department. However, students are free to organize anything. Students are involved in NGO activities, Magazines writings and publications, Quizzes, Debates etc. Annual fest is marked by speech by eminent economists, followed by street drama, evening songs and dance etc.

Hostel Facilities

3

Delhi University hostels. Generally shared by 2 students, may be from same stream or some Masters level students from other departments. Hostel includes bed and wifi at Rs 250 per month. Mess includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food was okay. Non-Veg food 4 days a week, special dinner once a month. Mess costs Rs 700 per month

Alumni/Alumna

No alumni network as such. However, seniors generally help the juniors. They can provide you notes, study materials, previous years question papers.

Exam Structure

No compulsion on attendance, hence chilled out life. But, out of 160 students who took admission in 1st year, around 60 students failed to get promoted to second year. So, you live in constant fear of failure in exam. 2 internals of 15 marks each and a final exam of 70 marks.

Faculty

4.5

The best faculty in India. 70% of the faculty have PhD from the top universities in the world, for example Princeton, Berkeley, Cornell, Boston, as well as the best colleges from India like ISI. The quality of teaching would be the best in India, and faculty are always engaged in latest research activities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have always held that the training I recieved during my masters programme prepared the grounds for my future development. The teaching pedagogy was centres around participation and a two way dialogue. I am not in the capacity to be suggesting improvements in curriculum as my stint in the university was almost perfect- more than I could have ever asked for.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed by the renowned professors and faculty members from different universities in India and from abroad as well. The content was choosen keeping in mind to cover all the aspects of the specific subject for a pg student. As I mentioned before, the quality of study material was very good and helpful and very enough. But the pg thesis is missing from our course, due to which we were not able to do a research project. It appears to me after the completion of my first year that we can do our research under our given faculty but it wasn't mentioned in the course structure as it is mainly upto our faculties.

Course Curriculum Overview:

For the course i must say that this is something everyone needs to study about even if it's for just a part. We have ethics, moral, cultural relativism and etc. In our syllabus and it all really help to make our thinking rational, to see World from that point of view from where one can see the clarity. It's really necessary for improvement in personality and making good decision. I think there's need for making this course more practical like teaching, we can teach students about essentials of philosophy for there betterment of decision making from an early age.
