Remarks
Good Aspects: Faculty, Peers, Course Curriculum, Brand new state of the art infrastructure. Bad Aspects: Recently established so it is relatively unknown to many people and companies. Admission Process: Primary shortlist happens through a XAT entrance test that takes place in January, followed by a GD and PI round that happens in March. Why this college over others: Even though it has been recently established, the brand name of XLRI and the fact that we at XLRI Delhi have the same curriculum and faculty as XLRI Jamshedpur in addition to being part of the same culture made me choose this college over others. Any blog or forum: Not exactly, there were just multiple sites that I browsed through to get basic details and understanding.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because it aligned with my long term goals. The course offers subjects like finance, strategy, operations among other business management subjects. Faculty-Student ratio: A class comprises approximately 60-70 students per faculty. Qualification of faculty: Faculties are well qualified with the majority of them having PhDs and published research papers and books. They are many common faculty for XLRI Delhi and XLRI Jamshedpur. In addition to that, we also have visiting guest faculties that hold important positions in some of the top corporates. Examination: In spite of examinations being conducted online due to the COVID pandemic, there were very few technical glitches and were well proctored. The scoring is relative so passing and failure depend on how well a student does with respect to the whole class.
Internships Opportunities
The companies that came to offer us internship included the likes of Microsoft, JPMC, Google, ITC, Mondelez etc. The roles offered ranged from Sales & Marketing, Financial Analyst, Consultancy among others. Our internship starts in the month of April and ends in June.
Placement Experience
In the first year, there are placement opportunities for internship and in the second year, there are proper campus placements that take place, led by a student elected placement committee. Some of the top companies that extended offers for the students were Microsoft, Google, AccStrat, ITC, Mondelez, JPMC etc. The highest package offered was 5L and the average was 2.2L with 100% placements for the summer internships. I plan to work in the finance or consult sector after getting my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am a first-year student and yet to have sat for my placement process. The fees for 2 years of PGDBM course is approximately 25 lakhs including the stay on campus which have to be paid in 6 instalments at the beginning of every term. Scholarship opportunities are based on merit while getting admitted into the institute and is open for all to apply. One of the renowned scholarship programs is that of Aditya Birla Group.
Campus Life
The campus life is pretty happening with peers from all over the country. The annual fest 'Ensemble Valhalla' takes place during the month of November along with the sister campus of XLRI Jamshedpur. We have a four-storey library that contains a large variety of academic and other genres of books. Since the classes were conducted online this year, we are yet to experience the amenities in the classroom. There are a lot of committees for each type of interest and new ones keep coming up every year ranging from extracurricular to academics. Since this is a new campus, the sports facilities are brand new and there are events taking place every month or two. Every committee is run by the students with faculty supervision.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms are single occupancy and spacious. The infrastructure is new and there is provision for ACs. The room also has an attached balcony, one cupboard, a bed, a shelf and a study table. The mess food is of good quality with a menu rotating for every day of the week. The hostel stay is mandatory for everyone and is included in the curriculum fees and is well affordable for everyone.
Interview Experience
After clearing the entrance examination, there are two more rounds. One GD and one PI. The topics of GD were either abstract or were based on current affairs. My GD topic was to discuss 'The importance of working for the middle class in Indian society. The PI revolved around my CV and if you have work experience then, there will be questions asked in that domain. An aggregate of the entrance exam, GD and PI is taken based on some internally decided weights to calculate the final score and give admission. I prepared for these rounds by myself.
