Remarks
XLRI is said to be the oldest and one of the most prestigious B-schools in India and indeed it is so. Right from the academic rigour to a plethora of opportunities in all aspects, the college gives every individual multiple opportunity to grow and develop. Thanks to the supportive seniors and professors, a highly conducive environment for academic and non-academic growth is created which helps a person immensely in his/ her career. The admission process entailed the XAT entrance test followed by a personality form and an asynchronous interview. After this was the Group Discussion and the PI rounds. I used blogs like Quora, inside IIM while selecting the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
PGDBM is a course that helps a person develop holistically in his/her career with subjects from all aspects of business right from Marketing to HR. XLRI has a very high faculty to student ratio of about 1:10 helping one gain a personal experience. All the facilities are extremely distinguished with PhDs and multiple papers in their respective fields. Generally, a case-based teaching mechanism is followed. The exams are held at regular intervals, almost weekly, with medium to high levels of difficulty.
Internships Opportunities
All top companies from the FMCG, Consulting, IT, Pharma sector companies offer roles for an internship during the first trimester of the course. The roles include Marketing, ProdMan, Consultant, Fin, GenMan etc.
Placement Experience
One of the best placements among the B-schools of the country. The SIPs happen during the first term and the CRP happens in the fifth term. The average package for the finals is approx 25 LPA and it has a record of 100% placements every year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees of XLRI has been more or less constant and no hike was done even during the COVID times when almost every college hiked their fees. During the course there are hardly any extra costs involved as all of the materials are covered in the initial phase. Hence the course of study is neither cheap nor too expensive given the stature of the college.
Campus Life
Life at the campus is one of great friendship and freedom with a good level of academic stress. There are a number of big events conducted like the Maxi Fair, EV, TedX, Alcon Homecoming etc. The books and journals as well as a huge collection of e-books are available readily to every student. There are a number of committees like Maxi, EV, Sigma, Sportscom etc.
Hostel Facilities
The room had all the basic facilities like a bed, almirah, a balcony etc. A very spacious room given it is meant for oy one person. The mess menu has all kinds of protein and thereby a healthy diet to follow. Timely and efficient service every day and every time. Overall the hostel is affordable and worth the money.
Interview Experience
The topics of the GD were related to general knowledge and the recent happenings in the business world. My topic was regarding sustainability and its impacts on the decisions taken by the government. The XAT test pattern has been constant with three sections to the paper and a high level of difficulty. The PI round was generally BQ based with a slight focus on past acads. I went through the mock tests thoroughly and brushed up my past acads for the rounds and it helped me immensely.
