XLRI being the oldest brand under the management fraternity in India boasts the largest & most varied alumni base commonly known as 'XL Mafia' and has recently completed 71 years of its continued accomplishments and dominance in producing some of the finest MBA graduates across the country. XLRI has continued its position as the best institute for Human Resource Management graduates across Asia and trust across various global corporates. The alumni base has immense love and belongingness to the XLRI brand due to their continuous engagement and shows immense guidance and support to the students of XLRI. All this has moved me and motivated me to join XLRI and the support and guidance of one of the alumnus made my path easier to join XLRI successfully. The admission process includes XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) which constitutes 4 sections(Decision making, Verbal & Logical Ability, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, General Knowledge) to test the overall qualities of an applicant.
Course Curriculum Overview
XLRI offers two types of management courses which are Business Management (Flagship course of XLRI) and Human Resource Management earlier known as Industrial Relationship Management. The Business Management course has 180 students on the Jamshedpur campus and 120 students on the NCR-Jhajjar campus. I joined this course with the analysis on Placement records for both the courses and kind of roles offered and by the guidance of an alumnus who guided me through various steps before joining XLRI. This course has some of the most celebrated faculty in subjects of management who are well renowned across the globe for their research work and contribution in fields of management. The batches are divided into sections of 60 students each to maintain a good faculty-student ratio and empower deep and clear learning. Faculty are well qualified and experienced and ensure to teach and test students in a way that test their basic theoretical and practical knowledge.
Internships Opportunities
XLRI manages to offer an internship offer to every student with big names from various domains like BCG, Bain & Co, Accenture Strategy, ITC, Amazon, State Street, RBI and many more. All the students have got paid internship offers despite Covid-19.
Placement Experience
XLRI has always been a top B-school in terms of placements and it still withholds its glamorous placement records. This year despite covid-19 XLRI managed to not only maintain its quality placement offers but roe to an average package of 25.08 LPA with a median package of 23 LPA to its PGDBM and PGDHRM divisions. The top domains on the basis of roles offered were Consulting, Sales & Marketing, and BFSI with top recruiters as BCG, Bain & Co, ITC, Amazon, etc. Even in the case of internship offers to the junior batch, XLRI managed to complete 100% placements for juniors and managed to offer an internship offer to each and every student. As per a common saying, you will surely get a placement if you are an XLer, 100% of the batch got placed and empowered XLRI further.
Fees and Financial Aid
XLRI is the most expensive college across India with a fee of 25 Lacs and at the same time does its best to justify such a high fee. XLRI has various collaborations with various corporates which offer scholarships on the basis of merit like ABG scholarships. Various banks provide financial assistance to students at interest rates as low as 6.80% which enables students to complete their studies without any hassle. Everyone in XLRI gets paid internship offers from reputed corporates (There is a common saying 'XL aaye ho to place to ho he jaoge') and this is what makes XLRI such a reputed college.
Campus Life
XLRI offers a vast campus spread over 50+ acres in Jamshedpur and over 40 acres in Delhi-NCR with state-of-the-art academic learning centers and green campuses. The buildings for XLRI have already made a mark in MBA applicants with it's well-defined and fully modern classrooms along with the famous Sir Jehangir Ghandy Library, established in 1949, catering to the information needs of Faculty, Research scholars, and students. Tata auditorium at the heart of XLRI hosts various ceremonies and boasts about its aesthetics and legacy. Sports play a very important part of all Xlers life which is well-taken care of by huge sports complexes on the campus and the famous XL vs IIM-C well defines the love for sports in XLRI. In terms of the annual fest, XLRI has various committees to organize various fests like the legendary MAXI fair which is India's most famous and largest marketing fair, Ensemble-Valhalla, a cultural and sports fest, most famous among students, and Entrepreneurship Summits.
Hostel Facilities
XLRI has good quality and modern residential facilities for its students. The campus offers single occupancy rooms to all the students which are quite spacious along with cupboards, shelves, study tables, and chairs, balconies, lan ports, dustbins, proper lighting, good quality bed, and cross ventilation. The hostels also offer common areas with pool tables, table tennis facilities, and a TV room along with clean toilets. Delhi-NCR campus also offers AC facilities in hostel rooms along with other salient features. The mess at the campus is well maintained and regulated by the student committee who takes care of mess food, menu, and other hostel facilities and decides the menu according to the concerns of students. The mess is well acquainted with maintain the hygiene levels and is checked from time to time.
Interview Experience
XLRI admission process comprises of XAT followed by GD & WAT which is further followed by Personal Interview. Students are selected on the basis of merit after the aptitude test (XAT) & then divided into groups of 8-10 individuals who are given a GD topic for example 'Loyalty is a result of employees preferring seniority over merit' or 'Attendance is no longer a useful metric to judge students & employees.' The panel to judge usually comprises 3 professors from different subjects who then ask students to perform WAT. Interviews are generally focused on checking out stress handling abilities & basic behavioral questions. Sometimes subjects knowledge & General knowledge are also tested to evaluate the applicant but in total interviews are majorly focussed on having a conversation & knowing about your true self which makes you a fit for the esteemed college. The criterion includes XAT, GD-WAT, PI, academic scores, work experience & gender diversity but the composition is a black box.
