My college journey

MDI Gurgaon is one of the top 10 B Schools in the country which was one of the reasons which attracted me towards it. But not just the ranks of the college but also the opportunities that the college holds for me during my MBA and after it was something that really excited me to join MDI. Now when I talk about development during my MBA I talk about the infrastructure that the college has created for the students by investing in a lot of worldwide corporates as well as the nationwide database for students like Statista, Bloomberg etc to take their learnings from, case studies based learning system, opportunities to participate in some of the biggest corporate competitions, studying from faculty who have held top positions in companies like Cipla, Maruti Suzuki etc and from have taught at some of the best B Schools in the world like LSE etc. Post-MBA opportunities bring me to the excellent placements averaging 22 lakhs. The admission process is a WAT-GD-PI process and starts from February.

The course curriculum as MDIs famous for it is very rigorous and an extremely structured curriculum where it prepares you well to enter the industry and makes you corporate ready be it before the summer internships begin or before the final placements. The curriculum works on a case study based pedagogy where students are exposed to real-life problems in a simulated manner to understand the integrities of the situations. Even during the pandemic where the whole curriculum has been online for a complete year, the college has been able to almost replicate the physical class experience with the vast experience of the faculty who comes from huge corporate experience from companies like Cipla, Ranbaxy, Maruti Suzuki, Honda etc where they have held top positions. In every section, there are 60 students so the faculty-student ratio is unimpressive. The college has a set a curriculum and academic calendar which is predefined and students need to put in a lot of hard work to make it past them.

The college does provide internship opportunities to students for which the companies come on campus to recruit in term 1. The students are prepared for the GD-PI process by the seniors. Whooping 85 companies came on campus to recruit students with companies like Google, Goldmann Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, HUL, ITC etc from various sectors such as BFSI, consulting, FMCG, pharmaceuticals etc to offer roles like product management, consulting, corporate finance, investment banking, wealth management etc. The students are required to work on projects provided by companies which are customised as per the skills of the students as well as the needs of the organisation.

The placements from the college take place in 2 parts. 1st is the summer internship placements for the students which starts from term 1 where the students are employed by companies to work on a project for 2 months with the college's average placement for 2019 batch being 2.35 lakhs rupees where 85 companies from various sectors such as BFSI, Consults, made offers in various roles such as product management, sales and marketing, investment banking, consulting etc. The students are required to join their summer internships from April ending in May where if they perform well they get a chance to get a pre-placement offer (PPO) from the company where the company gives them a final offer. MDI has a great history in getting PPO's where almost 40% of the batch receives PPO every year. Others get to sit for the final placements where MDI recorded a whopping average salary of 22 lakhs inviting roles from over 125 companies for the batch of 2018.

The institute has been charging a uniform fees for quite some time now with the fees ranging around 20 lakhs rupees for 2 years inclusive of everything. The college provides an academic scholarship for excellence in academics to top 7 students on the basis of various factors such as marks, attendance, CAT percentile etc. The institute has immense job opportunities on campus with an average stipend for summers for the batch of 2019 to be 2.35 lakhs and the final placement figures for the batch of 2018 around 22 lakhs with companies coming to recruit from various sectors such as BFSI, consults, FMCG etc for different roles including sales and marketing, product management, consultant etc. Even after the MBA, students have immense growth opportunities attributable to the great curriculum designed to help students perform well in the corporates.

MBA is all about peer learning and to add to that factor MDI has a great campus and social life, located on the Mehrauli Gurgaon Road in the heart of Gurgaon, the institute has a lush green campus with best of the amenities and facilities for the students. The campus has state of the art classrooms and libraries with a plethora of information to feed on and databases to gain data and insights from. Apart from the academic excellence, the campus has a lot to learn from the Non Classroom activities with 16 Clubs and committees in the college run by the students which provide a lot of opportunities and exposure for the students. The campus has a good infrastructure for various sports both outdoor and indoor like football, cricket, table tennis, snooker etc.

The admission process consists of WAT-GD-PI students are first of all required to write on a topic for 5 minutes and then are required to discuss the same topic for the next 15 minutes. The topics for WAT- GD are fairly objective which generally revolve around current affairs as was the case for me as well as for most of my batchmates. The panel looks for the quality of your points and how relevant the point is considering the discussion. Followed by GD-WAT is the PI which judges you on your behavioural aspects and it may range from academics to anything depending upon where you really want to take the interview. The admissions committee of MDI Gurgaon rolls out a chance for candidates to be mentored by students of MDI for their preparation and the candidates can opt for that for further assistance.
