Remarks
1. One of the best engineering colleges in West Bengal with respect to academic prowess and annual placements records (2nd Best in my opinion) 2. From the finance point of view, the output to input ratio is higher than almost any college in India. To put that in perspective, if you pursue Computer Science Engineering, you will get an average package of 20LPA after paying Rs 10000 to the college. 3. Unlike other engineering colleges, because of the presence of Arts and Science faculties in the same campus, there's a better chance of cultural growth in JU.
Placement Experience
For CSE/IT students, highest package can go as high as 52LPA with average package being 20LPA. For mechanical engineering department, reputed Core companies like Maruti, Hero, Bajaj, Reliance, Voltas, Hitachi comes to recruit students with over 8LPA packages. Because of Alumni connections, we are privileged with recruitments by PSUs (that otherwise recruit only through GATE) that offer packages as high as 16-17LPA. Students of Mechanical department with sound skills in Coding may crack Amazon, Goldman Sachs as well. For mechanical Department, number of job offers can go over 100. The Entrepreneurship Cell of Jadavpur University is one of the most developed Societies in JU.
College Events
This is the best aspect of JU. The campus culture is very diverse. There are people who keep themselves busy with their project works, club activities and studies while others keep themselves busy with the cultural and social activities. There are over 14 clubs and societies in the university, some of them being highly active and students get to develop themselves in a number of ways while being involved in these. There are various Fests that happen in JU, namely SRIJAN, SANSKRITI etc. Arts, Science, Engineering faculties have their own separate cultural fests where everyone is allowed to attend. The students Union also take part in various social activities like free teaching under privileged students in nearby villages, supplying food and essential materials during crisis (funds for these are raised by students themselves). The political climate in the campus is also very active. Students in JU do not held themselves back in speaking up against what's wrong and what's right. Students learn a lot of moral things too. There is an exceptional unity among the students which is one of the highlights of JU culture. Every single voice is heard. Everyone goes through a personality development. And there is a positive mindset in JU students. There is no academic pressure until 3rd year and there is no ragging at all. Because of which the number of suicide cases in JU is almost nil.
Campus Life
I can speak of my own department, Mechanical Engineering Department has a bigger infrastructure with multiple buildings dedicated to Mechanical Labs. Namely Hydraulics Lab and Heat Power Labs and Blue Earth Machine Shops are some highlights which have their own dedicated buildings and are well equipped with various machineries. The main building is also under renovation. Some rooms are upgraded into 'Smart Classrooms'. The Central Library is huge. However, for departmental subjects, our own Departmental library is sufficient. We have a large playground for sports. There are basketball, tennis courts too. University gym that opens twice a day (morning and evening) covers up a large area. Annually multiple Sports tournaments on Football, Cricket, Basketball etc - UTurn, Arena etc are held where all the students take part.
