MEC Kochi, B.Tech, Biomedical Engineering
Reviewed on Apr 22, 2020(Enrolled 2017)

Remarks

MEC is actually the one of the best in Kerala in terms of academics and placement. The only problem is the lack of infrastructure in our college. Even though there is this problem, we tackled it and Excel in every way.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course is well suited for people who are interested in exploring the biomedical field and to bridge the gap between biomedical and engineering including electronics. In Kerala, this is the only college providing both electronics and Biomedical in a single stream.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placement and job opportunities are pretty good at our college. The only problem is that biomedical core companies are less compared to electronic companies coming. Internships are provided in our college but the companies came are IT companies.

College Events

4

There are two fests conducted in each year. One is Excel which is the techfest. This was south India's second techfest and the quality of each event is outstanding that even students from NIT and IITs are coming to participate. The second fest is the arts and sports fest which is Layatharang and Chakravyuh respectively. They are exclusive for our college.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Feasible. Because our college is an IhourD funded college ( semi - govt.) So the fees are pretty less. For merit, per year it is 32, 000 and for management it is 64, 000. 1800 is of the exam fee and the rest is the tuition fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

XSA scholarship which is based on our parents income, academic performance and caste. This is not availed by me, but this is one good scholarship which most of them availed and it provides 20, 000Rs per sem. This scholarship will expire if the person have active backlog.

Campus Life

2.5

Lab, workshop and other extra activities are pretty much good. Our college have various student teams and societies like IEEE, IEDC, FOSS, MUNSOC etc. Which provide a great platform for students to exhibit their skill set. IEEE provides a platform especially for women to showcase their skills on coding and electronics.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Since the college doesn't have a ladies hostel, we, girls are forced to opt private hostel. The hostel which I'm living is a convent hostel which is near the college. There are 13 rooms which have 4 person living per room.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumini or what we call the XMEC provide a lot of funding on conducting our techfest. The also provide placements and increase infrastructure of the college. The make themselves constantly on the situation of the college and do the best what they can.

Admission

The admission is based on rank which was decided by compiling our 12th marks( physics chemistry and maths aggregate) and KEAM entrance exam. The rank system also look on caste reservation. The seat I've got was management which also have a cutoff and include the rank and reservation system. NRI quota is also available.

Faculty

4

The faculty is very much interested and enthusiastic for helping us to do projects, outside book knowledge and give ideas for papers and projects. Mentorship and help from the faculty are very much available.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is the worst. Teachers rush through the portions so that they can finish at the earliest. It may be because the university has a unjustifiable timetable. There is very little practicals given. The ones that are given are just for namesake.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is under KTU syllubus do it's fine. There is a change in curriculum coming 2024 which i assume would make a lot of good changes. The curriculum gives you a head start For most of your work, you need to on your own but the faculty is there to help. The frequency of exams is weekly tests + monthly exams. Its not too difficult of an exam.

Currently placements are bit low, due to inflation, but compared to other colleges like KMEA, etc we have better placements similar to Muthoot and all. We have placement training, and other supports which can help us crack aptitude exams and prepare for placements Almost 70-80% students are placed every year, with an avg package of 4LPA

Placement Experience:

The students usually start appearing for campus placements in their 6th semester. The training for the campus placements is started for all the students from the 4th semester. Many companies visited for campus placements. But one main problem is that most of them were low packages. Around 4LPA. Some were between 4-6 and a very few between 6-10. Most of them got placed in our batch in some company.
