NIT Trichy offers a chill experience in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering with a solid faculty-student ratio and a vibrant campus life, but the focus is more on traditional engineering paths and less on tech. In contrast, MNNIT Allahabad’s Computer Science Engineering is more demanding but opens up ample internship opportunities with top tech companies like Amazon and Oracle, which can lead to better placement packages. While both colleges provide decent overall experiences, I’d personally lean towards MNNIT Allahabad if you’re passionate about computer science and want to tap into the booming tech industry; however, if you prefer a less intense academic atmosphere with a focus on core engineering, NIT Trichy might be the better choice for you.

You should opt for NIT Trichy B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering! When it comes to placements, the branch matters more than the institute. Many NITs have impressive placement records, often better than some IITs. NITs are not low-tier institutes.

Here’s why you should consider NIT CSE:

  • Top branches at NITs consistently achieve higher placements than lower branches at IITs.
  • The demand for Computer Science graduates is skyrocketing, leading to excellent job opportunities.
  • NIT Trichy has a strong reputation and network in the tech industry.

Choose wisely!

NIT Trichy for Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and MNNIT Allahabad for Computer Science Engineering both have their pros, but looking at fees and ROI, NIT Trichy comes out on top. The total cost for NIT Trichy is about 10 lakhs for four years, which is quite reasonable given its high placement percentage of around 90%, with the highest package reaching 51 LPA. MNNIT's Computer Science program is attractive too, but the placements aren't as lucrative or consistent. If your goal is to maximize your investment and you’re okay with a less conventional branch, NIT Trichy could be the smarter financial choice. However, if you’re passionate about computer science and willing to take a risk for potentially higher pay-offs, MNNIT could be worth considering too.

It would be easier to answer if you mentioned the specific campuses of NIT and IIT. Here’s what you should consider:

  • If you’re getting Metallurgy in IITs other than the old IITs, go for NIT CSE.
  • If you’re getting Metallurgy in old IITs, prefer IITs. The atmosphere there will help you excel in life.
  • In old IITs, the branch doesn't matter. If you're interested in coding, you can pursue it even if you're from the Metallurgy department.

In my view, Top 7 NITs CSE >= Old IITs Metallurgy (depending on your priorities) > Top 7–14/15 NITs CSE > Newer IITs Metallurgy. For circuit branches, the new IITs are definitely a solid choice, but when it comes to core branches, the Old IITs are way ahead of the newer ones. So, I wouldn't consider the core branches of new IITs as a good option.
