Short Answer - Nope. Not for the next 5 years at least.
Long Answer - There are many, MANY reasons why DTU isn’t a great option for B.Des.
The key takeaway is that IDC and Srishti have established their credibility over time, and DTU is still in the early stages.
This paragraph was written on 18–12-2020. The second batch of the B.Des course at DTU (formerly Delhi College of Engineering) has started. Many people on this site are saying it’s new, so don’t join. But remember, everything was new at some point! In today's world, nothing stays new for long. The reality is, India has a lack of design colleges. Students are struggling and preparing for design entrance exams for 2 to 3 years, and even then, they aren’t getting in. Many believe that only NID and IIT matter. The competition is fierce, making it nearly impossible for colleges to judge accurately. For example, if you were asked to draw the same thing twice, you'd get different results each time. So, can you really judge yourself so minutely on parameters like light, shading, shapes, etc.? It’s about design, not fine arts.
What you want from a design college:
I’ve just finished my first year in B.Des at DTU, and the placement scene looks promising. I've heard from seniors that the average package for design students is around 10-12 lakhs, while the highest package can go up to 1.8 crores, but that's an exception. The college offers good internship opportunities, and I’m excited to see where that leads us in our third year. Overall, it seems like DTU sets us up well for the job market!
So, I'm in my second year of B.Des at DTU, and from what I know, the placements in our design department are quite decent. The average package is about 10 to 12 lakhs, which is pretty good. I’ve seen some seniors land jobs with well-known companies like Microsoft and Google after graduation. The college does have a strong network and offers various internships, especially in our third year, which really helps boost our profiles.
Hey there!
The Bachelor in Design program at DTU started in August 2018, which means the first batch will graduate in 2022. Until then, it's tough to predict the placement scenario for B.Des students.
Thanks!
