Which is a better career, DTU B.Des or a SSC level government job??

Honestly, I got into Engineering without fully understanding what it entailed.

As I progressed at DTU, it became increasingly clear that this path wasn’t for me. And that’s okay. Not everything suits everyone, and accepting that is crucial.

By the end of my third year, I began exploring other options, and CGL emerged as the best choice for several reasons:

• The pride and prestige associated with certain SSC jobs
• A decent salary
• Job security
• A better work-life balance
• More time to spend with family (or at least I believe so)

While there are significant issues with the CGL exam process, I’ve committed to this path, and I’ll deal with whatever challenges SSC throws my way.

You can’t have the best of both worlds.

Note: I don’t regret my journey as an Engineer. In fact, I’m proud to be an alumnus of DTU. Those four years were probably the best of my life. DTU has given me so much, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

I don't believe DTU is the right place for studying design. The motivation and environment for design are lacking because 85% of the seats are reserved for the Delhi region. This means students who aren't even interested in design, with ranks up to 3–4 thousand, end up studying there. The design profiles of students there can be disheartening! There isn't even a separate building for the design department. Right now, I wouldn't recommend considering DTU as a primary option. There are definitely better private institutes for design. Consider applying to Srishti Bangalore or MITID Pune. Yes, DTU has a big name, but it simply isn't equipped to teach design effectively at this time. Maybe the situation will improve in the next 4–5 years, but for now, it's a big NO to DTU for design!

I think going for a B.Des at DTU can be more fulfilling than a SSC level government job, especially if you're into design. The college offers good internship opportunities starting from the third year, which is a big plus. Plus, the faculty is mostly supportive, guiding us through our projects. While the fee structure is on the higher side, around 15-16 lakhs for the entire course, the potential for a high-paying job can make it worth it. The campus life is vibrant, and you can participate in so many activities. If you're looking for a dynamic career in design, I would definitely lean towards DTU.

For me, the B.Des program at DTU feels like a better choice than a SSC level government job, mainly because of the creative opportunities it offers. The curriculum is good, and while it needs some updates, the internship options are diverse, including paid internships in startups. The placements are also commendable, with past students landing jobs at companies like Microsoft and Google. Plus, the college culture is just fantastic! If you enjoy design and want to work in an industry that values innovation, DTU is definitely the way to go.

Choosing between DTU's B.Des and a SSC level government job really depends on what you want from your career. I'm currently in the first year of the B.Des program at DTU, and I can tell you that the curriculum is solid and relevant to today's job market. We have a great foundation year where we learn various aspects of design, and then we can specialize.

The campus life here is amazing, with lots of cultural fests and clubs to join. The placements are decent too. The highest package for design students was 1.8 crores, but the average is around 10-12 lakhs. If you have a passion for design and creativity, DTU is a great option!
