I'm currently in my first year of B.Des at DTU and I think it's a good choice if you're focused on landing a high-paying job. The course curriculum is updated and relevant, but I do feel that they could incorporate more practical learning. The college has a strong internship program, especially in the 3rd year, and many students have secured decent offers from top companies like Microsoft and Google. The placements for design students are decent, with packages ranging around 10-12 lakhs. The college fee is a bit high, around 15-16 lakhs total, but there are scholarships based on performance. If you’re determined, you’ll find ways to make it work!

Honestly, doing a B.Des at DTU is totally worth it if you're aiming for a good job. The curriculum is solid and relevant to the job market, covering everything from product design to industrial design in the first year. You can specialize later, which is great. I've heard that internships in the 3rd year can lead to decent job offers, and while the placement stats show that interaction design students tend to get the best packages, a few lucky ones have even hit 1.8 crores! The average is still around 10-12 lakhs, which isn't bad. Just keep in mind the total cost for the course is about 15-16 lakhs for four years, but if you work hard, scholarships are available too.

As the department is new and no batch has graduated yet, don't expect any ‘guarantees’ here; results are a product of effort, not a given.

Also, you won’t be in a small group of 5–10 students. DTU has a high intake of students, which means you’ll need to carve out your own identity to stand out. You’ll be pushed to excel here. This applies to all branches at DTU.

B.Des at DTU is in its foundation year, so it's understandable why some might question the quality of design education here. However, there are no solid grounds for these misconceptions.

  • Design at DTU is taught by faculty with a strong design background.
  • Design is a field where your creativity is tested, rather than just memorizing formulas and regurgitating them on an exam.
  • The program offers exposure to both technology and arts, making DTU an ideal place for design studies.
  • B.Des at DTU is taught by faculty who truly understand and engage with students.
  • The curriculum combines the best elements from established design institutes while also including exclusive courses unique to the university.
  • Students have the opportunity to interact with selected industry experts, and some have even been sent to NID Gandhinagar for a conference on social design.

In conclusion, pursuing design requires hard work from you. Ultimately, it's your choice where to enroll. Don't just listen to others—make your own informed decision. It's the right thing to do!

I hope this helps clear up some doubts!

DTU is known for its technical courses. However, the information about the design department on their website is limited. Here are some points to consider:

  • If you have the option to join a reputed design institute, go for it!
  • If not, DTU can still be a decent choice.
  • You can look for internships at IIT.
  • Stay connected with design students from other colleges.

Networking is key!
