MBA in Technology Management, a first-of-its-kind, is an industry-backed programme that equips professionals with the required skills to keep up with the changing business world.
As companies are increasingly depending on technology to shape their strategies, they often struggle to find professionals who can connect business and technology effectively. Recognizing this gap, CMR University has partnered with the US-based ‘Institute of Product Leadership Inc’ to train students and professionals as "techno-managers".
AI and Technology have significantly transformed business operations and innovation. Companies need leaders who can bridge the gap between technology and business strategy. However, finding such professionals remains a challenge. As part of this initiative, CMR University has collaborated with the Institute of Product Leadership to introduce the MBA in Technology Management, an industry-backed program designed to equip professionals with the skills to lead and excel in AI-driven, technology-first businesses.
Why Techno-Managers Matter?
In today’s world, managers don’t just oversee people but also drive growth, innovation, and AI-powered strategies. Techno-managers are experts who understand digital ecosystems, AI decision-making, and product-driven business models, making them essential for modern businesses.
"The business world is evolving fast. Our program ensures professionals are ready to take on the challenges of AI-first, digital-first companies," said Mr. Jayadeep K R Reddy, Pro-Chancellor of CMR University and CEO of CMR Group of Institutions.
A New Kind of MBA
Traditional MBAs often fall short in preparing professionals for the fast-changing tech landscape. Businesses today require managers who can handle digital disruptions and align technology with business growth.
"Management has changed—it’s no longer just about human resources but also digital resources. Companies need new-age managers who can lead AI-driven strategies," explained Sai Satish Vedam, Chief Executive & Product Officer at the Institute of Product Leadership.
Industry-Academia Collaboration
Dr. K. C. Ramamurthy, IPS (Retd.), Chairman of CMR University & CMR Group of Institutions and former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), emphasised the importance of industry-academia collaboration in the emerging business landscape. “Our partnership with the Institute of Product Leadership will equip students with the skills, talent, and experience needed to thrive in AI-first, technology-first, and digital-first businesses,” he stated.
Further, Dr. H B Raghavendra, Vice Chancellor of CMR University, added, “At CMR University, we are committed to bridge the gap between technology and business. This collaboration ensures our graduates are well-prepared to lead in the AI-driven economy.”
Growing Demand for Tech-Savvy Business Leaders
The need for an MBA that enhances their leadership potential is greater than ever. "India has the world’s largest pool of engineers, yet traditional MBAs often serve as a reset point rather than leveraging their technical expertise for leadership roles. This must change.” said Pinkesh Shah, Founder & CEO of Delight Loop, Tech Investor, and Silicon Valley Executive.
Industry Insights & Live Demonstrations
At the program's launch event, Industry experts, including Tapojoy Chatterjee (VP & Head of Product, Swiggy), Adithi Sampath (Head of Product, Uber), and Ashish Kalvakota (VP, Global Logic), provided insights into hiring trends for young business managers. Additionally, Shailesh Hegde (CEO, Hubilo) and Arjun Shenoy (CPO, GetReplies) conducted live demonstrations of their latest innovations to announce the launch of the MBA programme.
