A chemical reaction is in which the bonds are broken within reactant molecules, and new bonds are formed within product molecules in order to form a new substance. A chemical equation is nothing but a mathematical statement which symbolizes the product formation from reactants.
Types of Chemical Reaction are as follows.
Decomposition Reaction: A decomposition reaction is a reaction that takes place when one reactant breaks down into two or more simpler substances.
Displacement Reaction: A displacement reaction occurs where an atom or a group of atoms is replaced by another atom.
Oxidation Reaction: Oxidation is defined as the loss of electrons or an increase in the oxidation state of an ion, atom, or certain atoms in a molecule. It is also described as a reaction where an element combines with oxygen.
Reduction Reaction: Reduction is defined as the gain of electrons or a decrease in the oxidation state of an ion, atom, or certain atoms in a molecule.
Corrosion is the process by where when metals react with moisture, saltwater, acid or any other substance for a long period of time, oxidation reaction occurs and metals loses their strength and get corroded. A layer of oxide of the metal forms on the surface of the metal. This layer is called as rust.
