CUET PG History Question Paper Analysis (2024-2023)

The CUET PG 2023 History paper focused on facts, dates, rulers, and battles. Many questions asked students to remember names and events. However, the 2024 exam was different. It did not just test memory but also required students to think, compare, and explain historical events. Instead of asking who did what, the exam focused on why things happened and how they changed history.

In 2024, there were more questions on historiography (the study of how history is written). Students had to understand different historians' views instead of just remembering facts. The paper also included comparisons between different historical periods which made the exam more analytical in nature, requiring a better understanding of history.

CUET PG 2023 vs. CUET PG 2024 History Topics Comparison

The CUET PG 2024 History test focused on understanding history over memorizing facts. Instead of asking "When did the Battle of Plassey happen?" the exam asked "How did the Battle of Plassey change British rule in India?", in which students had to explain causes and effects rather than simply remembering dates. Many questions compared rulers, historical periods, and policies, encouraging students to think and analyze things.

The exam also contained historians' perspectives, requiring students to understand multiple points of view rather than memorizing just one answer. Another shift was to focus on contemporary relevance, with concerns about colonial control, feminism, and global history, making history feel more relevant to today's worldview.

Topic Category CUET PG 2023 Topics CUET PG 2024 Topics
Ancient & Early Medieval India Focus on kings, battles, and religious movements (Buddhism, Jainism) More questions on urbanization, trade, and how states were formed. Also, comparison-based questions (e.g., Mauryas vs. Guptas, Cholas vs. Rashtrakutas)
Medieval India Covered Delhi Sultanate, Mughal Empire, Bhakti & Sufi Movements Focus on administration, economy, and governance. Compared different ruling systems (e.g., Delhi Sultanate vs. Mughal rule)
Modern India British rule, Indian National Congress, and freedom struggle Focused on the impact of British rule (e.g., Drain Theory, land policies). More questions on peasant and tribal movements, and historian debates (e.g., Was 1857 the First War of Independence?)
World History French, American, Russian Revolutions, World Wars More focus on colonialism, global trade, and decolonization. Students had to compare different revolutions
Question Style Direct factual questions More questions on causes and effects, historian views, and comparisons

In 2024, the Ancient and Early Medieval India section focused on urbanization, trade, and state development instead of kings and dynasties. Students explained how different regions grew socially and economically. They also analyzed political and administrative systems in questions like "How were the Mauryas different from the Guptas?". The exam included historiography questions, where students compared different historians' views.

The Medieval India section looked at how dynasties ruled and their impact on society. Students analyzed the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal governments to determine which model was better, as well as the Bhakti and Sufi movements and their impact on communities.

The Modern India chapter emphasized British policies and their consequences in the long run. Rather than merely defining terms such as Drain Theory or Permanent Settlement, students described their influence on India's economy and society. The freedom struggle chapter covered peasant, tribal, and marginalized movements, whereas historian debates, e.g., "Was 1857 the First War of Independence?", asked students to compare and contrast different viewpoints.

World History discussed global links, colonization, and revolutions. Students analyzed the similarities and differences between the French, American, and Russian Revolutions rather than studying each independently. The exam also included colonialism-related questions, such as "How did colonialism impact India and Africa differently?". The Cold War, decolonization, and global conflicts were to be solved using a cause-and-effect approach.
