CUET PG Geology Question Paper Analysis (2024-2023)

The CUET PG 2023 Geology exam mainly consisted of direct factual recall questions, requiring students to remember definitions, classifications, and fundamental principles. However, in the 2024 test, there was a change in trend towards application-based and analytical types of questions. The candidates had to interpret geologic maps, analyze the composition of minerals, and determine tectonic movements from provided data.

The 2024 question paper also carried a larger number of real-life application questions, especially in Structural Geology, Environmental Geology, and Economic Geology. Students had to use theoretical principles to practical geological situations, thereby making the exam more demanding in terms of conceptual knowledge.

CUET PG 2023 vs. CUET PG 2024 Geology Topics Comparison

Topic Category CUET PG 2023 Topics CUET PG 2024 Topics
Physical Geology Basic concepts of Earth’s origin, weathering, and erosion More focus on seismic activity, plate tectonics, and volcanic processes
Mineralogy Identification of minerals based on physical properties Detailed analysis of mineral compositions, chemical properties
Structural Geology Basic faults and folds Application-based questions on rock deformation, stress-strain relationships
Economic Geology General knowledge of ore deposits Mining methods, economic feasibility of mineral extraction
Environmental Geology Basic natural hazards like earthquakes, landslides Advanced climate change impact, groundwater depletion, and mitigation

In Physical Geology & Geodynamics, the 2023 exam mainly had questions about basic definitions and processes like erosion, deposition, and weathering. These questions were simple and based on memory. However, in 2024, the focus changed to seismic activity, earthquake intensity mapping, and plate tectonics.

For Mineralogy & Petrology, the 2023 paper asked about basic mineral classification and physical properties. The questions were mostly direct, requiring students to identify minerals based on their appearance. For 2024, the exam covered more technical topics like geochemical analysis and phase diagrams, which required students to know the chemical composition and origin of minerals. So, the questions were more advanced.

The 2023 Structural Geology section focused on testing the basic understanding of folds, faults, and strike-dip.The questions were theoretical in nature, where students needed to identify various structural structures. In 2024, the students needed to interpret geological maps and recognize stress-strain relationships and the questions needed practical application.

For Economic Geology, in 2023, the paper had questions on ore deposit categorizations. The questions were simple, covering mineral types and characteristics. However, during the year 2024, the examination was on mining processes and economic aspects. Students had to be aware of how minerals are mined and their profitability.

In Environmental Geology, the 2023 exam had basic and factual questions on natural disasters like earthquakes and landslides. However, in 2024, the focus shifted to climate change, groundwater contamination, and mitigation strategies. Students had to analyze environmental problems and suggest solutions, making the exam more application-based.
